I first discovered this book about fifteen ears ago at a garage sale. It is a charming story about a group of gnomes who are the last of their race and who must remain undiscovered and journey a great distance. The book has a Judas who betrays his friends. I liked this book because it was fantasy and because the author, like Tolkien, captures the essence of the human spirit and distills it in to other creatures. If you can find a copy read it to your kids. If you can't find a copy read to your kids anyway!
