5.0 out of 5 stars fave Sco song on the cd (or the best song you will never hear on the radio), June 9, 2009
This review is from: Down D (MP3 Download)
I've been listening to John Scofield for 25 years. He has such a wide range that it is impossible to classify him. I have come to expect a steady stream of absolutely enjoyable musical licks and compositions that he "chisels" away at with his distinctive guitar playing. Every once in a while I hear a real personal gem. "Down D" starts with a bagpipe-like cadence echoing a Bill Frisell influence complete with aural distortion. Sco then floats through the song with Bill Stewart sustaining soft cascading drums. When the woodwinds and brass kick in it is genius. For some reason this song strikes me as having the same kind of modality that most of Miles Davis' "Kind of Blue" album did.
