5.0 out of 5 stars This Joint is HOT!
This book had drama from the first page on. There are a number of different scenarios that make you question what the opposite sex is thinking. With each chapter I placed myself in the main characters position and asked myself, "What would I do if faced with this problem?" As a guy, it made me think about what I have at home and how lucky I am. Just like the main...

3.0 out of 5 stars Could have been better!
The author states in the notes that he could not afford to hire an editor. However, he COULD afford to proof read! He also mentioned he didn't feel like going back to re-write a sequence in the book to make it better. WHAT?!!! A true writer is passionate about his/her work and strives to make it the best it can be. Although Mr. Smith does have talent, I think he has...

This book had drama from the first page on. There are a number of different scenarios that make you question what the opposite sex is thinking. With each chapter I placed myself in the main characters position and asked myself, "What would I do if faced with this problem?" As a guy, it made me think about what I have at home and how lucky I am. Just like the main character in this book, I was taking my girl for granted. Sometimes it takes seeing someone else go though this before we see it. The book reminds men in particular, that if you have a good woman at home, you need to stick with her. Sometimes there are better looking women out there, but behind the makeup sometimes...there are some major issues. If you are thinking about cheating on your girl, this book will make you think twice. Sometimes, you only get one shot at love.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mad Drama from the first scene on!, September 22, 2004
This review is from: Down Low, Double Life (Paperback)
This joint starts off with a funny wedding sequence that starts off a serious roller coaster ride for the lead charcaters. It's got drama, action, more drama, sex, lies, coverups and a world of humor. I was glad to read that the double life that the lead character was leading was with two women. Initially, I thought it was the DL type. This book was the best thing that I read this summer. D.L. Smith also writes as Darrin Lowery Smith. His other books "Divorce Him, Marry Me" and "Forbidden" are also good reads. He left room in this book for a sequel. I hope some of the minor characters get a more in depth look.

This review is from: Down Low, Double Life (Paperback)
When I first glanced at the title, I said to myself here we go again. After reading this novel, the terms down low and double life, have a whole new meaning.

DOWN LOW, DOUBLE LIFE is centered around the lives of now married college sweethearts Jamie and Mia Kennedy and their slew of friends that bring to the fold their own set of problems. When Mia finds her niche as a magazine editor, she finds that because of the demands of her success, she begins to spend less time with Jamie. Although Mia has been there for Jamie through thick and thin, he has a hard time adjusting to this change and begins having thoughts of cheating on his wife. Jamie decides to confide in his best-friend Michael, who has been divorced for two-years but still confesses to love his ex-wife. Michael tells Jamie that being unfaithful to his wife is not a wise decision.

Darrin Lowery Smith, writing under the penname D. L. Smith, has written a poignant novel filled with drama, drama and more drama. Although the storyline flowed well from one chapter to the next, the novel contained an abundance of typos and grammatical errors. I was relieved when the author candidly explained that he couldn't afford to pay an editor. All in all, DOWN LOW, DOUBLE LIFE was an enjoyable read. This was my first novel by the very talented D. L. Smith, but it will not be my last.

This book is a refreshing weekend read as it moves so smoothly through the lives of the characters. Nothing could stop me from moving through those pages! It has it all...drama, suspense, love, turmoil, and so much more. These characters reflect our lives, our woes, our losses, our regrets, our joys, our true loves, and every other real human emotion. This is a pick me up and crawl in bed to read book! Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Spellbinding, March 10, 2004

This review is from: Down Low, Double Life (Paperback)
It is amazing how much men lie and how often they will let their routines get them caught up in their lies. This book gives women insight into how men think sometimes and each character brings a whole new level of deceit and drama to the story line. This was a compelling book. I am hoping for a sequel!

4.0 out of 5 stars Drama, drama, drama, November 22, 2005
This review is from: Down Low, Double Life (Paperback)
Two couples. Two sets of problems. Can love prevail?

Jamie and Mia...younger and inexperienced
After ten years of being together, Jamie and Mia have decided to finally jump the broom. Soon, gone is the marital bliss as they find the demands of their careers wedging a gulf between them. Mia just wants Jamie to stand by her and support her while her career is taking off. After all, she did the same for him. Jamie on the other hand, wants Mia to continue to be the supportive woman that she once was by putting her career aspirations on the back burner. But what happens when neither is supporting the other? As tension mounts and they grow further and further apart, will the two be able to reconcile before it's too late?

Michael and Loretta...older and wiser
They were the couple that all couples aspired to be. Everyone wanted a relationship like Mike and Loretta. So it came as a total shock to everyone when they quickly and quietly divorced. Having time to now think about all that went wrong, can these two get beyond their past and have a future together? Can Mike convince his best friend Jamie not to make the same mistakes he did?

Don't let the title fool you. This is book number three for me by this author (Forbidden and Still Crazy), and I can honestly say that I haven't been disappointed yet. I enjoyed this book and recommend it as well as the others. Now it's off to find book number four - Divorce Him, Marry Me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Infidelity, Reality and Relationships, October 27, 2005
This review is from: Down Low, Double Life (Paperback)
Sometimes we don't realize what we have until it's gone. This is what I thought as I read this book. I was happy to see that it was not about the "DL" lifestyle but about a man with two women and the consequences of that lifestyle. The lead character, Jamie Kennedy has a good woman in Mia. She has always had his back, she was there for him when he was living large and also when he got cut from Pro-Football. When she becomes the breadwinner, his insecurities surface. Even though he knows what he has at home like a lot of us men, he struggles with doing the right thing. He considers stepping out without weighing the lifelong consequences that come. This book asks the age old question, "How do you hurt the one you love?" This is a story about triumphs and heartaches. I was surprised to find out after visiting the author's website that he and Darrin Lowery are the same person. Apparently D.L. Smith is Darrin Lowery's Penname.

A true writer is passionate about his/her work and strives to make it the best it can be. This book was the BOMB!! Drama, Drama and more Drama. It is definitely one of the best books I've recently read. It's very easy to read and it's fast flowing. Run don't walk to go get this one. This is my first book by this author but it won't be my last. I have already started his latest book "Still Crazy" and I can already tell that I won't be disappointed.

Very good book -- Darrin, keep up the good work!
