This review is from: Down Home [Vinyl] (Vinyl)
Down home blues. I'm from Detroit. and i'm only 24. YES 24! I don't even know when this song came out!!! but i do remmber my grandma Von, playin' this song with her friends stayed up at night drinking, playing cards, and havin a good ol' time. I was a little kid at the time, but some songs you can never forget, ya know. Hell, I finally figured out who sung this song. so I'm going to get this song and play it for her; for her Flash Backs;) I think she's like 68 now. Can't wait to suprise her!

One of 1982's most ambitious traditional Soul albums.,
By
This review is from: Down Home (Audio CD)
This 1982 release was arguably Z.Z. Hill's most successful album ever. The fact that both "Down Home Blues" and "Cheatin' In The Next Room" got plenty of radio airplay and propelled this classic album to Gold status was certainly unexpected (especially when considering that both the major labels and Urban radio's movers and shakers viewed both the Blues and Southern Soul as "dead" forms of music that no longer sold) but most welcome. "Down Home" went on to become Malaco Records' all-time biggest seller until its sales were surpassed by those of Johnnie Taylor's 1996 set "Good Love". Sadly, Z.Z. Hill passed away less than three years after this album's release...just when it seemed like he was beginning to get much-deserved and long-overdue recognition.

Soundtrack of my Childhood,

This review is from: Down Home (MP3 Download)
I'm just a young pup at 29, but I can vividly remember going to church or to my Big Momma and Big Daddy's home with Down Home playing in the background. My Mom played that tape so much that when it wore out she made my dad buy her a new one! She's been gone for 12 years now and thinking about her I found myself downloading this album. This is definitely a classic and would go great in any collection. Rock, Blues, R&B....you name it this album is in the top of my list! I never liked 'Love Me' as a kid and now i find myself just playing it over and over. If you are looking for an album that isn't just noise but will still keep them dancing this is it!
