5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Accoustic CD
Although this CD has previously released material, it still sounds fresh. Kip has a great voice and is a very talented guitarist. 3.0 out of 5 stars a semi-superfluous release
I am approaching this review from the perspective a Winger fan and not that of a critic per se. That said, I must admit to being unimpressed with this release.

It appears yet another example of an artist re-recording songs (quasi-demo, unplugged versions...you know the type, acoustic guitar, add a touch of piano for ambiance, and throw in a measure or two...

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best acoustic records of all time, January 5, 2003
This review is from: Down Incognito (Audio CD)
Music,as life, has a lot of surprises.Who might have thought that Kip Winger would make an album like this?
This is pure feeling,an atmospherical trip to beautiful soundscapes.A experience in itself.
Kip lost his wife in a car accident and suddenly all his world collapsed.Instead of giving up,he started to develope a fantastic solo career. He tries to heal himself with this music, and heal ourselves, too.
Mature?Yes,sure.Sounds strange seeing Winger's videos of the 80's hair metal plague, all those pompous posing, colours and nonsense-lyrics...but in their last album "Pull", they showed a great capacity to write timeless songs, with powerful lyrics.
He wants to be taken seriously. It must be a heavy burden to carry when all people is telling you"You were a 80's metalhead and you got nothing to say now".
If you are one of those who think the latter, you will overlook this awesome effort. You will never know what really hides in an amazing record like this.
Winger covers in acoustic leave you specheless, most of all because of their fantastic melodies. They sound terrific! They look like pop compositions,as the well-known "Under one condition"(I love this song acoustic!),"Miles away" and a heavenly rendition of their hit "Headed for a heartbreak".
"Daniel" and "Another way" (Kip's solo compositions-to number a few) if were part of a Phil Collins,Eagles or Kenny G album would be hits for sure. But he is Kip Winger.
The album as a whole is brutally melancolic, not to approach when you are down or depressed. It can ruin your day.Try,as "Grace"(Jeff Buckley) to listen to it in an appropiate mood.It can send you shivers down your spine and let your mind free.
Please, make yourself a favor and buy this record now.If you like it,try all Kip's albums. They won't dissapoint you.

I heard kip performing Miles Away with just his acoustic guitar on a local radio station and he sounded great so when I heard about this cd I knew I had to have it. Kip really brings new life to all these songs that were already great to start off with. When you hear them all stripped down without all the loud guitars and pounding drums you really get a fill for what Kip Winger the Singer/Song writer is all about, it truly is an Amazing CD to listen to

4.0 out of 5 stars An Acoustic Twist On Some Older Material, November 3, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Down Incognito (Audio CD)
Although I was hoping for new material to be included on this release, it was nice to hear familiar Winger and Kip Winger songs presented in a whole new way, acoustically. Kip is a very talanted musician and this is a wonderful showcase of that talent.

Any one who knows anything about music would IGNORE the critics regarding anything negative about Kip Winger. They obviously don't play. Kip is a hugely talented musician. The early Winger stuff was great, but PULL is a rock masterpiece. This album is also a "must have". The new take on these songs is brilliant. Kip never ceases to amaze. Without question one of the most underrated rock artists playing today. Buy this album, you won't regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A solid acoustic collection of old AND new songs..., August 12, 2003

Kip Winger (and Winger) have gotten a bad rap for so many years, along with many other talented bands in the late 80s and early 90s for the music they played, the clothes that they wore, and the size of their hair, which was unfair, but you can't choose opinions for people. Led by Kip Winger, Reb Beach, Rod Morgenstein, Paul Taylor, and later, John Roth, Winger was respected for their high caliber musicianship, diverse music backgrounds, and eclectic music. They always stood apart from the crowd and were in a class of their own among the EXCESS of the "hair bands" or "glam bands" (or whatever term you prefer to describe the music they played). They wrote and played great, fun music, and after the band broke up in 1993, Kip Winger released two solo albums ("This Conversation Seems Like A Dream" and "Songs From the Ocean Floor"). Four songs from "This Conversation..." were recorded on this CD along with Winger's trademark pop anthems. "Steam", "How Far Will We Go?", "Naked Son", and "Daniel" are probably the best songs off of "This Conversation..." and sounded amazing acoustically. The songwriting and musical ability of these songs alone demonstrated what so many people (with open minds and IQs of at least 7) have known for a long time: that Kip Winger is a great songwriter. Away from the lights and the glitz and the glam of arena rock and MTV anthems is some very good songwriting from a lot of talented artists that were pigeonholed into the label of "hair bands" in the 80s/90s, and Kip Winger is definitely near the top of that list. If you haven't heard his solo CDs, definitely check them out. If you want more of the same, repetitive, manufactured music, then you can listen to any Top 40 radio station or watch MTV (when they play music), but if you want some good rock music by a very talented artist, check this CD out. In my opinion, definitely five stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Breathing new life into some great songs!, January 2, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Down Incognito (Audio CD)
This is what Bon Jovi should have done with "This Left Feels Right" (which I still think STINKS- although CDuniverse wouldnt post MY review). Unlike other albums that attempt to do the same type of thing, this album succeeds in revitalizing the greatest of the bands songs. Kip's really breathed new life into these songs, while staying true to the originals. Everyone I know who's heard this album (Winger fan or not) has liked it. Dont listen to reviewers who havent even heard the album, and only judge an artist on their past, listen for yourself, I'm sure you'll be pleasantly surprised as I was.

4.0 out of 5 stars also known as "made by hand"?, October 28, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Down Incognito (Audio CD)
I was excited to hear about a new release from Kip, but disappointed to find out that is probably the cd 'made by hand' released under a different name with a few different tracks. If in fact they are the same, then this cd is very good, ignore the one star review....Kip is evidently very talented...I just wish he would release another 'studio' cd, following up thisconversation.....I was under the impression that something entirely new was forthcoming.....*waiting patiently*

4.0 out of 5 stars Underrated, What A Shame, January 8, 2006
This review is from: Down Incognito (Audio CD)
Down Incognito is Kip Winger running through a few of his best tunes. Vocally he is as always brilliant. I do not understand why the band always got panned. The title track is a fantastic acoustic reading of one if not the best Winger tune they released. As a few of the songs are not Winger but Kip solo songs a few favorites are missing but what is included doesn't disappoint at all. If you had a passing fancy with the band then I recomment listening to this album. Nice music for a relaxing evening or a romantic dinner party. The only negative part to this album is that Reb Beach isn't blazing the fret board. But the musicians used here are worthy and put in very good performances.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, December 29, 2004
By
This review is from: Down Incognito (Audio CD)
I don't usually write a review immediately after buying a product. But this one is different. What I want to say is, Go buy this album. Kip is awesome-an all-around great musician.

This album is live, with songs from Kip's first solo album, plus Winger tunes. High points are Miles Away, Under One Condition, Ez Come Ez Go, and Headed for a Heartbreak.

Note: Kip's voice has changed; it's not as raspy and untamed as it was in the 80's. Instead, it's polished with all the rough edges filed down. At first, I missed the old voice but soon the new one grew on me.

Finally, forget what critics say about Winger; they were a great band and didn't get enough credit for sophisticated songs and great musicianship. In relation to other 80's bands, Winger was one of the better bands. Forget the critics and listen to the music, instead.
