This review is from: Down the Line: A Tribute to Buddy Holly (Audio CD)
I have been a big fan of Bobby's since his first recording in 1959. He filled in on the show that Bubby Holly never made it to. It's ironic that Bobby sounded so much like Buddy, and many of his recordings can trick people into thinking that it really is Buddy singing. Bobby went back and retrieved many of Buddy's songs, some of them not so well known, recorded them much in Buddy's style and presents it in his own style, which incidentally has carried him through over 40 years as a consistently popular entertainer. He just seems to get better. Bobby has always loved Buddy's music and what better tribute than to keep it popular with the older fans and introduce it to the younger generation who never had the opportuniy to become familiar with Buddy and his music. If you like Buddy Holly and if you like Bobby Vee, you will love this album. Bobby Vee is a legendary performer and all around great guy who possesses an amazing sense of humor. You gotta get this one.

This review is from: Down The Line - A 40th Anniversary Tribute to Buddy Holly (Audio CD)
I missed this CD when it was first released and it appeared as an option when I ordered the 2011 Bobby Vee UK set "Rarities". It really is a nice, loving tribute to Buddy Holly with the selection of songs being reworked from the originals to make them fresh. Unfortunately as time goes by, the Buddy Holly songbook has become more musical wallpaper than vibrant historical recordings and the Universal/Hip-O-Select 6 CD release in 2009 with its robotic sequential programming of different versions did little to revitalize the situation. Unlike the previous Liberty Buddy Holly set from Bobby and the Norman Petty produced set from Jimmy Gilmer, this CD is a nice contrast to the originals.
