Better Live than Studio,
By A Customer
This review is from: Lay Down & Love It Live (Audio CD)
I've been a fan of Sonia Dada for a few years, but have never heard them live. Now I understand what has been missing from the studio albums. This is probably the best live album I've heard in a long time, by anyone. The group seems to click - the songs all sound tighter, crisper and more enthusiastic - and the recording is superb. Aside from the last song on the album, it's all excellent. This is also the first time I've given 5 stars to any album review.

great live album,
This review is from: Lay Down & Love It Live (Audio CD)
Sonia Dada is just one of those great bands that don't get a lot of air time. I still haven't figured out why. They are one of the most talented groups I have heard in a long time. They can be described as a hybrid of gospel, rock, jazz, and rhythm & blues. I have to be honest though, I have talked quite a few friends of mine to listen to their music and some of them just don't find it impressive. Others, however, just find it as awesome as I do.I promised myself I would only chose 15 CD's to give 5 stars to. That is why I could only give 4 stars to this one. If only there was a 4 1/2. "A Day at the Beach" was one of my top 15 and I still believe it sounds slightly better than this live album. I don't want to take that away from how good this CD sounds. It is truly awesome and although most of the live songs come from the studio versions of "A Day at the Beach," there are some new treats to discover such as "You ain't thinking," "Don't Go," and "I want to take you higher." Click on my name above to see the 15 CD's I give 5-stars to. If you agree with a lot of my decisions, maybe I have listed a CD you haven't heard of (like Sonia Dada).

The Best of Sonia Dada,
By
This review is from: Lay Down & Love It Live (Audio CD)
"Lay Down..." is truly the best of Sonia Dada, for one simple reason - this is a band that sounds better in a live setting. For those unfamiliar with the group, Sonia Dada is a rock band with a great hard-edged soul/R&B flavor, which is only improved by the addition of a horn section on these performances. And, their high-octane cover of "I Wanna Take You Higher" alone is worth the price of admission. A great live album.

You Must See Sonia Dada Live!!!,

I confess that until last Sunday, I had never heard of Sonia Dada. But, as fate would have it, I found myself at a free concert in Watertown, WI of all places! And it was there that I fell in love with Sonia Dada. Trust me when I say that if you see them live, you'll feel the same. And as soon as they were done performing, I raced over and bought this album. And while I have a feeling that this album will stay in my CD player for many weeks to come, nothing compares to seeing them live. They are absolutely fabulous!!!! The energy coming off of that stage is something we should all tap into. If you enjoy music that makes you want to get up and dance or sing at the top of your lungs or get in your car and drive off into the sunset, then this album is for you. I'm hoping they will make it out to California soon. And when they do, I'll be there!

A must-have for anyone who loves blues, gospel, soul, rock or any other feel good music. Any sonia dada cd will make you fall in love, but the live album captures their spirit best. One of my favorite albums of all time!

I've got this CD in my car, and sometimes when I get where I'm going I have to leave the engine on to hear the end of the song. Their rocking cover of "I Want to Take You Higher" got me to buy the album, but every song is a gem. Then I got to see the group live, which is about the only thing better than listening to the CD. The horns and keyboard add depth to a band that's already deep. Highly, highly recommended!

I'm blessed to live in the tropics, where I do a volunteer three hour show monthly on our local public radio station, KPRG. I strive to be diverse and unpredictable, playing rock, blues, country, and lots of things in between, and pride myself on the obscure. The greatest compliment I ever heard on the show was "I don't know what the hell he's doing, but it's the best radio show on Guam".
Sonia Dada broke my pattern. Ever since I first heard them, I've had a hard time getting through a show without playing them a time or two. They have taken up residence in my car. They have taken up residence in my MP3 player. If you like rock, if you like gospel, if you just like real musicians flat getting after it, start here, with the live album. I'll warn you, though, they're habit forming. You might have to get yourself down to Lester's.

Sonia Dada is the most feel good group I've ever heard. A most interesting blend of gospel, blues, jazz and rock I've heard in years. Play it loud on a sunny drive and I promise you will have a smile on your face!

Witnessing a live performance of Sonia dada is incredible. They appear to truly love what they're doing and they never disappoint. This CD brings back those wonderful moments and fills in quite nicely until I have the honor to see them again live. I still haven't figured out why they are not more popular than they are. All of their CDs are fantastic but this one along with My Secret Life are my favorites!

I just picked up this cd today and love it. The quality of the live recording is stupendous, it gives you a great feel for the band. The instrumentals throughout blend beautifully with the soulful vocals. I've had the pleasure to see them live and this cd is a great tribute to their performance.
