I'm down wtih Down With Love!,
By "waadams" (Moraga, California United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Down With Love (Audio CD)
Yea my title is punny; that's ok. I saw this movie opening night and it was amazing! I saw this movie mostly because of Ewan McGregor and I loved it. It was one of his best performances. Because bith Ewan and Renee can sing (Moulin rouge, Chicago) they recorded a track for the credits. It is a wonderfull song and I would recommened the soundtrack just because of that one song. I bought the rest of the soundtrack and it is also very, very good! I suggest to buy the soundtrack now! Plus - go see the movie! The soundtrack includes Frank Sinatra and Astrud Gilberto's battling tracks of "Fly Me To the Moon (In Other Words)." Well here are the track listings, enjoy!1- Down With Love - Michael Buble/Holly Palmer 2 - Barbara Arrives - Marc Shaiman 3 - Fly Me To The Moon (In Other Words) - Frank Sinatra/Count Basie And His Orchestra 4 - One Mint Julep - Xavier Cugat And His Orchestra 5 - For Once In My Life - Michael Buble 6 - Girls Night Out - Marc Shaiman 7 - Every Day Is A Holiday (With You) - Esthero 8 - Kissing A Fool - Michael Buble 9 - Barbara Meets Zip - Marc Shaiman 10 - Fly Me To The Moon (In Other Words) - Astrud Gilberto 11 - Love In Three Acts - Marc Shaiman 12 - Here's To Love - Ewan McGregor/Renee Zellweger

A Perfect Accompaniment to the Film,
By
This review is from: Down With Love (Audio CD)
Having seen the movie and heard the soundtrack, I must say the music here is swingin'. I had never heard Michael Buble before, but he has three tracks on the CD and his voice fits the tone and time of the film perfectly. Two versions of "Fly Me to the Moon" were used interchangably in the film and I was glad to see both included on the CD. The score was interspersed with the vocal tracks but didn't interrupt the flow of the CD.And of course- the final track featuring Ewan McGregor and Renee Zellweger... Man, Ewan can sing and while Renee seemed a little outmatched at time she still sounded lovely. On the enhanced part of the disc is the video for "Here's to Love", which is seen in the movie with the end credits and links to the official sites (movie and soundtrack) and artist sites.

Down with Songs that Moan About Night and Day,
By Lottie (New England USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Down With Love (Audio CD)
At this time Amazon.com does not hyet ave the tracks listed. In case you are considering this CD, here they are: 1. Down With Love - Michael Buble/Holly Palmer Except for a few instrumentals (Tracks 2, 6, 9 and 11), this album would get 5 stars. The instrumentals are entertaining, but after several replays, they can becoming taxing. I was disappointed the best version of "Down with Love," Bobby Darin's version, was not included, but this CD is worth discovering Michael Buble (I went out and picked up his solo CD). I recommend the CD. The standards have the same zip and appeal of the flick . . . it's not the original, and they're not Rock and Doris, but they still make you smile, and this CD will still have you smiling if you are stuck in traffic, or help you keep the stress to a minimum in your cubicle.

Great Soundtrack but Incomplete (Garland?),
By PaulP (Harrisburg, PA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Down With Love (Audio CD)
Having seen this film on DVD last night, I was anxious to go to Amazon.Com and order the CD Soundtrack. However, it is very disappointing to see the omission of the Judy Garland track Down With Love, especially since it played such an important role in the film. The creative forces and decision makers who developed the soundtrack made a mistake by excluding this track.

Hey, Where's Judy Garland?,
By Steven J. Sanders (West Hollywood, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Down With Love (Audio CD)
Since Judy Garland's 1964 video of the title song (in the film said to be a guest shot on "Ed Sullivan" in '62. but in fact was a clip from her own CBS weekly variety series) is a major plot point (her appearance catapults the book to national best-selling status), it's odd that the audio clip of the performance is not included in the CD soundtrack. Has anyone else noticed this? As the author of "Rainbow's End: The Judy Garland Show," I can only speculate that perhaps the reason for the omission is based on legal issues but, conversely, I know Sid Luft and Classic World granted permission (their names are in the closing credits for its licensing) so it would seem the Garland vocal should have been included. After all, the CD certainly had room for an extra three-minute performance. Oh, well. Loved the soundtrack, btw, particularly the final performance of the title track.

Good Easy Listening Fun,

I initially scoffed at buying this soundtrack because I had no idea what to expect from it. Often times, soundtracks that are labled as including music "from and inspired by" the movie are studio excuses for putting together a CD full of has-been pop stars and stapming their film's name on it as a shameless marketing tool, and include very little music from the movie itself. But once I did buy it, however, I was very pleased with what I heard. Not only did it include several loveable and downright catchy songs (many of them pop standards reinvented by new-wave crooner Michael Buble) but it also included a healthy serving of the sensationally delightful score by composer Marc Shaiman (who made a major splash recently by writing the giddy music to the Broadway musical 'Hairspray'.) But the real selling point for me as far as this soundtrack goes is the song "Here's To Love" performed by stars Ewan McGregor and Renee Zellwegger. The song, also written by Mr. Shaiman, is a nice little toast to the classic Sinatra and Martin songs and is full of the pizzaz you'd expect from such a tribute, and just happens to be performed by the best singing male movie star out there. (Renee Zellwegger is pretty good in her own right as well.) But after hearing his vocals on the Moulin Rouge soundtrack, I was instantly hooked on Ewan McGregor's voice and was thrilled to see (and hear) that he was singing on this soundtrack as well. I highly reccommend this soundtrack CD, even if you have yet to see the film that inspired it.

Best Soundtrack Ever!,
By Lauren (CA, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Down With Love (Audio CD)
I bought this soundtrack because I loved the movie and ended up liking the soundtrack even better! The songs are all great, and different enough that they don't get repetetive. The songs by Michael Buble are especially good, and the last song, sung by Ewan McGregor and Renee Zellweger is excellent. Song number 7, (Every Day is a Holiday) doesn't seem to fit in with the others, but is still a really good song. I totally recommend this CD to anyone with good taste in music!

Ewan can croon !!!,
By Intro Spective (new york, ny United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Down With Love (Audio CD)
All I an say about this is that Ewan is one amazing singer who has such a fantastic voice, that he can have a great career as a singer is he wants it. But we already knew that from Moulin Rouge, and actually got a peek in 4 other early films of his ...he alone has the power in his hands to bring back the old musical genre as it deserves to be. No other entertainer today has that COMPLETE package of singing, acting, dancing ability that he has and he can do anything in the world he wants with it. This guy is a grand entertainer on a scale of a Gene Kelly or a Frank Sinatra ....I am shocked by his abilities. Anyway great movie, great soundtrack, and if you've got a soul, you will be moved by the first and last songs ! Enjoy.

Love'll take the chill off your chili !!!,
By Matthew G. Sherwin (last seen screaming at Amazon customer service) - See all my reviews (TOP 100 REVIEWER) (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER) (VINE VOICE)

The CD soundtrack from the movie Down With Love gives you a great selection of music from the motion picture to enjoy over and over again. The CD contains classic hits by titans like Sinatra, Xavier Cugat and Michael Bublé. Marc Shaiman also contributes some instrumental tracks from the film which were used as musical backdrops for certain scenes.
The CD opens with "Down With Love" performed by Michael Bublé and Holly Palmer. They sing wonderfully and the big band orchestration offers great use of the horns and strings sections. But that's just the beginning. Frank Sinatra sings "Fly Me To The Moon (In Other Words)" as Count Basie and His Orchestra swing so well. Count Basie gives this number a great big band-type arrangement that glistens and glows more brightly than pure gold! Xavier Cugat and His Orchestra then perform an early 1960s sounding Latin rendition of "One Mint Julep." Xavier's orchestra also gives this number a big band flavor as the percussion, strings and horn sections all chip in to produce a flawless musical arrangement. This'll take the chill off your chili!!! Michael Bublé also performs a romantic, swinging rendition of "For Once In My Life;" and Michael sings "Kissing A Fool" to perfection. The piano on "Kissing A Fool" infuses this ballad with a deep romantic element; Bublé's diction is perfect as well. Astrud Gilberto performs a reprise of "Fly me To The Moon (In Other Words)" with her usual hallmark style of singing flat. However, for some reason that I can't quite put into words, Astrud always sounded wonderful anyway. Her voice on this number is rich and full of true passion; perhaps this is what made her singing flat so very attractive anyhow. Throughout the CD Marc Shaiman adds instrumental tracks that served as musical backdrops to the scenes. Marc writes well and the music remains enjoyable even if you've never seen the film. The CD ends with Renée Zellweger and Ewan McGregor singing the finale, "Here's To Love." The playful arrangement for both the musicians and the singers hits you with a certain POW! as they sing with all their hearts. The CD also offers a video of Renée and Ewan performing "Here's To Love" in crisp, clear color. You also get hyperlinks to the web site for the movie as well as the ability to get news updates for the actors who played the principle parts in the movie. In addition, the liner notes offer great art work of both Renée and Ewan, playing Barbara and Catcher respectively. You get the song credits, too. People who enjoy soundtrack CDs from the movies will enjoy this CD, especially if they have seen Down With Love. Even if you haven't seen the movie, you will enjoy this CD if you like standards like "Fly Me To The Moon (In Other Words)" and the great talents of the 20th century including Frank Sinatra, Count Basie and Xavier Cugat. |
