It really lets people see you., April 10, 2008
This review is from: Down Low Glow Lighting Kit - Two Tubes-Envy(green) (Misc.)
They are sold more as a fashion accessory than as serious lighting, and so when I first saw them I had my doubts, (since most of my night riding consists more of trying to avoid drunk drivers, and less of a party,) but they are great: When people see them, they know you are a bicyclist, and it lights up a fairly large patch of pavement that cars then proceed avoid...
I know they recently made a change to make the battery more waterproof, and I haven't had any problems with that in 3 months of spring weather in Portland, OR.
When I lock up my bicycle I take the battery with me, but I leave the lights on it. The lights are designed to be removed easily so you can take them with you, but it seemed like a lot of trouble to do that, (and then have to carry them around,) so I've zip tied them, (and the wires,) on with a lot of zipties, and routed the wires to that you'd have to remove the rear fender to get the lights and transformer off in one piece, and I then just take the battery with me. Someone could remove the lights if they spent a few minutes with a pair of wire snippers and a screwdriver, but they could also just cut my lock with an angle grinder in that much time too.
I did have a problem with mine, (lose wire,) and ended up sending it back in, but they paid for shipping both ways on that, and compared to most companies, that is amazing, so I really can't complain about that.

side visibility for bike commuters with down low glow, October 3, 2007
This review is from: Down Low Glow Lighting Kit - Two Tubes-Envy(green) (Misc.)
I have the single tube green down low glow and I'm pretty pleased with it so far. It was easy to mantle to the bike and a motorist would have to be blind not to see me coming down the street with the DLG turned on. The system is convenient in that it is made to work on a variety of bikes and you can turn it off when it isn't in use. The disadvantage I see is that the battery pack is not waterproof so you have to wrap it up if you are riding on wet days. Overall, I would recommend it to any bike commuter wanting to increase their side visibility for cars.

Awesome Product, July 28, 2007
This review is from: Down Low Glow Lighting Kit - Two Tubes-Envy(green) (Misc.)
These little tubes are amazing. They put out a lot of light, and motorists really seem to see me better, and they move over and slow down when they see the lights. I would recommend these for anyone who is a night commuter or just for people who have to ride late at night by choice or time restraints.
