5.0 out of 5 stars It really lets people see you., April 10, 2008
This review is from: Down Low Glow Lighting Kit - Two Tubes-Envy(green) (Misc.)
They are sold more as a fashion accessory than as serious lighting, and so when I first saw them I had my doubts, (since most of my night riding consists more of trying to avoid drunk drivers, and less of a party,) but they are great: When people see them, they know you are a bicyclist, and it lights up a fairly large patch of pavement that cars then proceed avoid...

I know they recently made a change to make the battery more waterproof, and I haven't had any problems with that in 3 months of spring weather in Portland, OR.

When I lock up my bicycle I take the battery with me, but I leave the lights on it. The lights are designed to be removed easily so you can take them with you, but it seemed like a lot of trouble to do that, (and then have to carry them around,) so I've zip tied them, (and the wires,) on with a lot of zipties, and routed the wires to that you'd have to remove the rear fender to get the lights and transformer off in one piece, and I then just take the battery with me. Someone could remove the lights if they spent a few minutes with a pair of wire snippers and a screwdriver, but they could also just cut my lock with an angle grinder in that much time too.

I did have a problem with mine, (lose wire,) and ended up sending it back in, but they paid for shipping both ways on that, and compared to most companies, that is amazing, so I really can't complain about that.

4.0 out of 5 stars side visibility for bike commuters with down low glow, October 3, 2007
By
This review is from: Down Low Glow Lighting Kit - Two Tubes-Envy(green) (Misc.)
I have the single tube green down low glow and I'm pretty pleased with it so far. It was easy to mantle to the bike and a motorist would have to be blind not to see me coming down the street with the DLG turned on. The system is convenient in that it is made to work on a variety of bikes and you can turn it off when it isn't in use. The disadvantage I see is that the battery pack is not waterproof so you have to wrap it up if you are riding on wet days. Overall, I would recommend it to any bike commuter wanting to increase their side visibility for cars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Product, July 28, 2007
This review is from: Down Low Glow Lighting Kit - Two Tubes-Envy(green) (Misc.)
These little tubes are amazing. They put out a lot of light, and motorists really seem to see me better, and they move over and slow down when they see the lights. I would recommend these for anyone who is a night commuter or just for people who have to ride late at night by choice or time restraints.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must have accessory for night time riding, June 23, 2010
This review is from: Down Low Glow Lighting Kit - Two Tubes-Envy(green) (Misc.)
I used this Down Low Glow lighting kit on my Lightning P-38 recumbent bicycle for night time riding. I mounted the longer light tube on the frame under the seat and the shorter light tube near the rear wheel. This kept the majority of the light behind me and under me - a better position when driving with traffic.

The green lights are very noticeable from a distance and shine on the ground to create a large patch of green light. Green light on the side of the road is not a common color to see when driving your car so it draws extra attention from the car drivers, making you safer while biking. The lights are very bright and are easily seen from distances.

Be sure to check your state's traffic laws. Some states do not allow red or blue lights on vehicles (except for red taillights) because these colors are reserved for emergency vehicles. Purchasing the green light is the best choice for cross-country rides for legal reasons.

Yes, this pack may seem expensive - however the cost of replacing or fixing a bike because of being cut-off by a nighttime driver is much more. And can you really put a price of personal safety? There are cheaper bicycle lighting options available, but none work like the Down Low Glow. Down Low Glow is the original. All parts of this kit are high quality and durable. The battery pack is the heaviest part of the kit. The light tubes are very light weight. During daily riding when I know that I won't be out at night, I remove the battery pack to shave a few ounces off my bike.

All in all, this is a one-of-a-kind accessory for your bike. Yes, it is very fun to ride with these lights in public places, but the real benefit is the safety factor when out on the open road. If you ride a lot at night or commute to work, this is a must have accessory for your bike.

This review is from: Down Low Glow Lighting Kit - Two Tubes-Envy(green) (Misc.)
I got these for my birthday & i absolutely love them! I feel so much safer - cars actually will use the furthest lane when there is more than one. I recommend these to anyone who rides at dusk/night. It actually makes me want to ride more at night!

5.0 out of 5 stars rock the bike rocks, August 29, 2009
This review is from: Down Low Glow Lighting Kit - Two Tubes-Envy(green) (Misc.)
We put the double tube light on our tandem bike and it now is a night time awesome-mobile. I would recommend the double light because they are directional so you can angle one light to the right and one to the left and be seen from both sides really well. The green light is RAD, I also just read that green is the color most easily picked up by drivers.

5.0 out of 5 stars I won't ride at night without my down low glow, January 3, 2008

Side visibility is key when you are riding at night. These lightweight, durable lights provide side visibility unlike any other light that I've used. They are also very cool looking. If you have kids they will love to ride with them at night, and you'll feel better knowing that they are much easier now for drivers to see them. If you are into show bikes or party bikes, you gotta have at least one pair of these on your bike. You will literally, 'Ride Like A Rock Star' as the advertisements say. 5.0 out of 5 stars People can see you a mile away with these neons!, November 30, 2007
This review is from: Down Low Glow Lighting Kit - Two Tubes-Envy(green) (Misc.)
I've had friends pull over in their cars to tell me that they saw me a mile away. These things are so bright. They are really light too-just about a pound, and don't require any tools to put them on your bike. if you ride at night, these lights are awesome!!!! There is nothing brighter out there that I have seen. Single tube systems when properly place on your bike's down tube offer probably as much safety protection as the dual tube system-a driver can easily see either a single or dual tube system.
