5.0 out of 5 stars The Beginning
This is the first Halo, although you can obtain all of these tracks on Pretty Hate Machine & Head Like A Hole... This is basically just for the fans who want every Halo, like me. I have every halo except for the video halo and i dont own that because i know it will be released on dvd on day and i shall wait >:)

On its own merits, this is an okay single of a very good song, but nothing to write home about. If you simply want to hear these songs, you should know that the 10-track "Head Like a Hole" maxi-single contains the two "Down In It" remixes (shred and singe) from this disc -- plus the interesting demo version, not included here -- and the "skin" mix is the version on Pretty Hate Machine. Unless you're amassing a complete halo collection, buy HLH instead.

(For those of you out of the loop: Each official NIN release has a "halo" number, in order of publication. This is Halo 1, Pretty Hate Machine is Halo 2, HLH is Halo 3, and so on.)

4.0 out of 5 stars Kinda like a cloud.........this one is way up in the sky, July 21, 2000

This was an awesome introduction to Trent Reznor, aka Nine Inch Nails........I wish halo one coulda been the Head Like a Hole single instead..BUT, Down In It was a good start. I like this song ONLY when I have a subwoofer on at the same time, otherwise it's not as good.....so, blare all three dif. versions of down in it with yer subwoofer for the full effect.

3.0 out of 5 stars A Must for halo collectors otherwise....., March 14, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Down In It (Audio CD)
I'm not saying that this single was at all bad. It's just that all three songs appear on other CDs. For Example Down in It (Skin) is really on 'Pretty Hate Machine' and as for the other two, Down in It (Shred) and Down in It (Singe), they appear on 'head like a hole' Don't get me wrong, this isn't a bad single at all. It's just you can get the same songs from later CDs. A must for Halo collectors (like me) but to not waste money buy 'pretty Hate Machine' and 'Head like a Hole' and get all three songs...plus more. Alright see ya!

5.0 out of 5 stars Skin....Shred....Singe.............Excellent!, January 16, 2000
This review is from: Down In It (Audio CD)
Down in it (Skin) sounds too close to the original, but (Shred) and (Singe) are awesome re-mixes and good dance tunes! Too bad there's only 3 re-mixes here, but it's definitely worth the price. This song is good no matter how you mix it!

3.0 out of 5 stars A Good Dance Album, December 11, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Down In It (Audio CD)
Reznor's 1st ever composition "Down in It" gets mixed three times by Adrian Sherwood and Keith Leblanc. Skin is the version which appears on Pretty Hate Machine, which is a faraggo of industrial and rap, Shred is really just an extended version of Skin with a slightly longer intro and some cutting, dubbing and distortion for the last two minutes. Singe is almost completely without lyrics and is more along the lines of "Fixed" (a great remix album), being a nine minute gothic industrial-dance.

5.0 out of 5 stars a must have, July 1, 2005
This review is from: Down In It (Audio CD)
true, these songs can be found on halo 3, head like a hole single, but if you are a serious nine inch nails collector, this is a must have.

down in it, although not the best nine inch nails song out there, shows you the beginning on nin. this is the first song trent wrote as nine inch nails.

1.0 out of 5 stars Did we really need this Trent?, August 26, 2003
This review is from: Down In It (Audio CD)
This single is the first Halo in the vast collection of Nine Inch Nails material. This single basically has three weak remixes of the song Down In It from the album Pretty Hate Machine. This isn't essential by any means, and all of the songs on here can be found on the Head Like A Hole US single, but if you're a brainwashed NIN-collector like myself than perhaps you feel a strong urge to get this in order to "complete the collection". However if you aren't one of the many NIN-zombies avoid this so that you don't become one of them.

3.0 out of 5 stars And so it begins..., July 16, 2004
This review is from: Down In It (Audio CD)
This being the first ever NIN single, it seems a bit legendary. The remixes themselves are pretty good, albeit long though. The Singe version is probably my favorite one, the added sounds and synth was a plus for me. The Skin version is basically the same as the album version and Shred is probably the most weak out of all the remixes even though Shred is the complete version without the song cutting off it's pretty neat. Worth getting for under 5 bucks.

Note, all of these appear on the Head like A hole single plus the demo version. This is only of avid collectors.

1.0 out of 5 stars Let me redirect you to the halo's on the right., November 5, 2001

All material on this cd is available elsewhere. Despite it's pretentious subtitle, Down In It (Skin) is the exactly the same as Pretty Hate Machine's version. The other two mixes (which, in my opinion, may be the weakest of all NIN remixes, but that's really besides the point)are on the Head Like A Hole single, along with 8 other exclusive tracks (including a demo version of Down In It). Unless you are adamant about owning every halo (that would be Trent Reznor's numbering system for his cd's, for those of you uninitiated in Nails geekdom); and make no mistake about it, this is numero uno; then avoid this item and use your money to purchase whichever of these you may be missing: Pretty Hate Machine, Broken, The Downward Spiral, The Fragile, Head Like A Hole single (US version, plus the UK version with the exclusive Opal remix), Closer To God single, Fixed, Things Faling Apart, Further Down The Spiral (US and UK versions, plus rumor has it the Japanese one has a redundant and yet exclusive Reptile remix), the March Of The Pigs single, We're In This Together Pt.'s 1-3, The Perfect Drug single, the Sin Single, The Lost Highway soundtrack, the Natural Born Killers soundtrack, The Crow soundtrack, the Tomb Raider soundtrack, the Alternative Press Industrial Stength compilation, the Purest Feeling bootleg, and the Demo's And Remixes bootleg. After you've done all that, THEN you can consider this bugger.
