Book Description

November 5, 2006
For many reasons the fashion industry has centered itself on the beauty of a minority of women — short and slender — but this is changing. Today women of all shapes and sizes are challenging the world to find them anything but beautiful, and with this confidence comes the desire to make their wedding day — that day of days — the most beautiful of all.

Chamein Canton uses her unique mix of native New York sophistication and a touch of Southern charm (a gift from her mother) combined with her considerable experience in the wedding industry to address the needs of full figured brides around the world. The result is Down that Aisle in Style! – A Wedding Guide for Full Figured Women. Her book focuses on the resources, advice and encouragement (generously mixed with photographs of beautiful full figured women) that will help women around the world plan one of the most important days of their lives — their wedding day.

Inspirational messages used throughout the book have been provided by the following plus size models: Joy Atkinson, BBB Women, Kathleen Bennett, Frances Brincat, Naiesha Brooks, Terreece Clarke, Jasmine Delgado, Valery Foley, Nelle Gilbert, Kelli Herbert, Hansi Holloway, Tonya Jeter, Shanda LaRue, Olga Ramos, Melissa Rios, Lynette Schultz, Stephanie Smith, and Melissa Stamper.

About the Author

Chamein Canton began her fascination with weddings and event planning as a little girl growing up on Long Island. By the age of three she'd already made her first of many wedding cakes. Once she became a teenager she often found it hard to pass bridal magazines without taking a peek. A born romantic, she married early and subsequently gave birth to twin boys, Sean and Scott, in May of 1987. Although her marriage ended in divorce, it didn't dampen her love of weddings, and after many years working as a paralegal she decided to follow her heart — she started her own business, Creative Elegance Catering and Wedding Consulting.

Chamein has many achievements to be proud of. A single mother of two talented sons (both are college-bound musicians who have had opportunity to play at Carnegie Hall), she successfully lives with multiple sclerosis and has overcome cancer. Her disabilities have not diminished her enthusiasm for running her own business, and she often writes about her experiences. She is the published author of numerous humorous short stories and is the author of Ms. Doesn't Stand for Multiple Sclerosis (ISBN 0-595149-05-7, Writer's Club Press, a humorous look at coping with M.S.) and You're Getting Married? (ISBN 0-595152-09-0 , Writer's Club Press, a humorous look at the difficulties faced by full figured brides). She currently writes two regular on-line columns for Elegant Plus Models and Venus Divas. Chamein has a B.A. in business from Empire State College and serves as an example for her sons by continuing her education.

Chamein's many achievements earned her the 2002 MS Mother of the Year award from the Long Island chapter of the MS Society.

"As a longtime big girl," Chamein tells us, "I am well acquainted with the challenges plus size women face in fashion. And as someone living with disabilities since 1996, I've learned how to navigate my way through a world that's not always disability friendly. But I stay positive and keep my head up for my family, my friends, and myself. Remember there's only one thing that beats a failure and that's a try."

5.0 out of 5 stars "Down That Aisle In Style" should be considered `must' reading for full-figured brides-to-be, December 9, 2006
This review is from: Down That Aisle in Style!: A Wedding Guide for the Full-figured Woman (Hardcover)
The average clothing manufacturer sells to a size six, but the average American woman is a size sixteen. When it comes to that very specialized area of clothing designs called the wedding dress, the bride needs to look her very best within traditional gown parameters and doesn't need the stress of going through the usual guess work associated with choosing clothing that will be stylish and appropriate for full-figured women. In "Down That Aisle In Style: A Wedding Guide For Full-Figured Women", Chamein Canton draws upon her many years of experience and expertise in the wedding industry to provide sound advice and moral-boosting encouragement on how to use the fundamentals of design and style to acquire the perfect gown for that perfect day. Profusely illustrated and with a truly "user friendly" text that is both informed and informative (and occasionally inspiring!), "Down That Aisle In Style" should be considered `must' reading for full-figured brides-to-be. It will save them aggravation and anxiety when searching for - and finding - that ideal wedding gown.
