5.0 out of 5 stars I can't get enough of Greg Brown
This is the first time I have heard Greg, friends from the Seattle area and my daughter told me about him and now I can't wait to make the 36 mile commute to work and listen to him all the while. "A Little Place in the Country" was all I was told it was and more. "Band of Gold" makes me teary-eyed and want to waltz close, and the incredible...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not for me
Whoops. My brother -in-law suggested Greg Brown but I made some uninformed choices. There are some good ones out there this is not one.

"A Little Place in the Country" was all I was told it was and more. "Band of Gold" makes me teary-eyed and want to waltz close, and the incredible "Fooled Me Once" is life at it's raunchiest best. His lyrics are superb and he speaks to all ages. I Love Him!

Greg Brown has tremendous depth and soul in this CD. I've listened to it repeatedly for 6 years or more and it continues to move me. It's also great for harmonizing with.

to your childhood in the country. Listening to his music will make you remember what it was like to grow up knowing what grass and dirt and earthworms and fish really smell like. Unbelievable, a masterpiece. Thank goodness I was watching public television the night he was featured, I may never have discovered one of my favorite artists.

Okay...not in a long, long, long, time has anyone moved me like Greg does with "A little place in the country" and "Fooled me once"...I am still trying to figure out how someone writes like that...but he does, and it hits you right square in the heart and moves your soul...I have been a long time fan of Greg Brown, but I think "Down in There" may just be his best. Every song is a masterpiece, and Greg Brown is a poet....

What can I say?! Greg Brown is the best songwriter alive today. Check him out free on Pandora, then buy something!

(No, not related to him in any way. In fact, I stupidly missed meeting him to hang out with a cute boy when I was 19. *sigh* Twenty-one years later it's still on my list of really dumb choices.)

I've not been moved by music like this for a very long time-I heard Hey Baby Hey on Prarie Home Companion and ordered the cd It's wonderful, takes you away, incredibly tasty. Fired up even more a 27 year old already passionate marriage. What a voice! I'd love to know of any concerts in Michigan.,

5.0 out of 5 stars Who is this amazing man?, June 3, 2004

Music has to really move me both emotionally and in my soul before I think about owning it. Greg's music takes me away to places I have never gone. His words stay with you, (almost as if you were there) as does his melody and his real-ness! He is a kind of man that you would want in your life....thank you Greg! Thank you for putting into words and reality what so many of us only think about and have not mastered how to say it! I love him!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Simplicity is Grace, April 24, 2005

Greg Brown has a great sense of slipping around the chains of time. He speaks to me when I'm old. He speaks to me when I'm young. He writes well. From simple words, come stunningly complex truths. I.E. from "Hillbilly Girl":

"Hillbilly Girl"

There's a girl standing on a red mud road

looking up at Legel's Hill

She has never been much farther than that

but she knows someday she will

Hillbilly girl -- a big big world

She is strumming on a catalog guitar

singing songs she's always known

She has her father's will and her mother's clear eyes

and a wild heart all her own

She is wondering where that red road goes

as the stars come out above

Will she make it to the lights of the city bright

Will she find someone to love

Now a woman stands on that same old road

with her father's hand in her own

and though mother is gone still those clear eyes

shine bright as they've ever shown

Yes the girl is the woman and the woman was the girl

Many an old song she still can strum

and yes she made it to the lights of the city bright

but she never forgot where she's from
