Editorial Reviews

Yogi Times, April 2006

"This CD comprises an amazing audio journey to revisit over and over."

Product Description

On their first full album release, DESERT DWELLERS meld elements of downtempo and psy-chill with sinewy basslines, otherworldly guitar and an exotic mix of organic instruments into an Indo-ambient mystical fusion. This recording, along with the forthcoming DOWNTEMPLE DUB: FLAMES, was originally conceived as the soundtrack to the DVD Series DUNCAN WONG YOGIC ARTS. That project allowed DESERT DWELLERS to push the bounds of Yoga music into a new realm of musical fusion called “Yoga Dub”: electronic devotional music blending the boundaries of rhythmic ambience while incorporating such traditional instruments as subahar, tabla, udu, erhu, cello and voice. The emphasis is always on the space between the music, allowing for a non-intrusive soundscape to support rather than distract from the listener’s activity. Produced by CRAIG KOHLAND, founder of the SHAMAN'S DREAM ENSEMBLE, DOWNTEMPLE DUB: WAVES pulses with lush rhythms and serene harmonies, guiding a sonic odyssey into the soul of the global heartbeat.

5.0 out of 5 stars meditational dub for everyone, February 25, 2008

This review is from: DownTemple Dub: Waves (Audio CD)
for those that like dub music and its transcendental waves of elongenated sound waves-here is a cd for you. call it new age or new wave or world music-but the conscious spirit digs musical mediums for its endless need to express itself. the electronica dimension is a glorious filler and adhesive to this modern adaptation of some very beautiful tradtional ethnical instruments. good music for meditation, contemplation,or simple relaxation! namaste' ya'll

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow, November 18, 2009

Amazing! All three albums in this series are stellar, taking it the 'next' level. Up there with Shpongle, Shulman, bluetech, etc, this music takes you on a journey. Many beautifully haunting 'organic' instruments vibrating throughout tastefully and masterfully 'mixed' with an electronic side that maintains the purity of the 'spiritual' mantras and 'sacred' instruments. these are just some of my opinions about this cd. check it out. send me a postcard from cloud nine. i think it is some of the best fusion between traditional and electronic elements being produced right now, just my humble opinion ;-0 Look Forward to more from these 'guys' EVERY time they produce it.
Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya

great for yoga, sex, tripping, driving, meditation, relaxing, etc.

5.0 out of 5 stars Middle-Eastern/New Age/Spirituality/Electronica, October 18, 2009

(TOP 500 REVIEWER)    (VINE VOICE)
This review is from: DownTemple Dub: Waves (Audio CD)
Middle-Eastern type sound with a spiritual flare--bongos and base drums, slowly introducing other instruments on the first track, the sound is interesting, easy-listening, relaxing, flowing sounds with a nice rambling kind of beat. If I were producing a movie, I would see this as background music to a scene where the caravans were crossing the Egyptian desert in search of an ancient spiritual finding in modern times.

A single CD, 7 tracks, just a hair short of one hour (a short hair), you could even meditate with this music and do visioning, but understand that it is a bouncier music than what most people call meditation music. The tracks are all similar musical movements. If you are into new age/spirituality, you will likely appreciate the track titles as well:
Prana Shakti 7:56
Subterranean Sanctuary 7:48
Om Namo Bhagavate 7:37
Misty Mountain 8:46
Solar Prayers 8:03
Bhodi Mandala 8:44
Lotus Heart 9:04

The album cover says, ". . . downtempo and psy-chill with sinewy basslines, otherworldly guitar and an exotic mix of organic instruments into an Indo-ambient mystical fusion. . ." (OK--I just know I like it.)

It also says this is part of the soundtrack to the Duncan Wong Series "Duncan Wong Yogic Arts". This is electronically infused devotional music which incorporates instruments: subahar, tabla, udu, erhu, cello, and voice, emphasizing the space between the music. Forming electronic dance music and as part of the techno-tribal renaissance movement, this music is also part of a promotion to create a "conscious way to walk peacefully in the world".

This music is quite appealing to both my 36 year old son and to his 60 year old Momma.

Namaste'
