3.0 out of 5 stars It's A Brave New World
We live in a different world today. Our President, on television, says he did not have sex with 'that woman'. We need to look carefully at everything we're told by our government. Did anyone notice the recent leaking out that an Italian airliner that 'crashed' 16 years ago was really brought down by a NATO plane shooting at a Libyan jet that had entered Italian...

This book should trouble anyone who is serious about the TWA 800 case. I came to it from position of a sceptic about "conspiracy" theorists but the sheer volume of factual information here certainly points to a cover up. Certainly it was an abnormal crash investigation. Read about it yourself.

The failure to disclose the evidence of goverment rocketry experts, the discounting of the testimony of literally hundreds of eye witnesses (some with impeccable military backgrounds), the absence of any real evidence of fuel tank explosion, it all adds up to something fishy. And I'm no conspiracy minded person.

Two quibbles: the last pages of the book are marred by a silly fictional guess at a terrorist plot and the government's vidictive prosecution of the Sanders (particularly the innocent wife) may have been petty but he did take evidence without authority. We're not told the outcome of the case after conviction.

My concerns still remain in the area of too many people having to be involved to keep a cover up secret - but I do not discount the possibility for reasons of fear and misguided patriotism.

I believe the most likely explanation was that the airplane was brought down by a Navy missile, most likely fired in error. There were an unusual number of Navy ship in the vicinity a fact at first denied by the Navy. As for the Navy disclaimers I'm sorry to say that I discount those. The Navy has shown its ability to lie loyally in the "Liberty" case where they covered for Israel's attack on that vessel under political orders and they would have even greater reason to lie here. If I am correct otherwise honest people could be convinced that they must cover up "for the good of the country", the source of many evils.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Downing of TWA Flight 800, July 19, 2000
This review is from: The Downing Of TWA Flight 800 (Paperback)
This is honestly one of the most interesting-and frightening-stories I've ever read. It's full of information that the government doesn't want you to know about what really happened to TWA Flight 800. Sanders has done his honework on this one, and that's why he's been targeted by the FBI. This is one book that the flying public--and, in reality, all American voters and taxpayers--should read. It will not only expose the truth, but it takes the government's "findings" about the explosion of the plane's center fuel tank, and blows it right out of the water. How, you'll have to find out for yourself. As a public, we need to learn to question what the government and the liberal choose to tell us about such cases, and what they conveinent "forget" to mention. This book, at the very least, will make you think that a cover-up is an entirely plausible thing in relating to the explosion of TWA Flight 800. FYI, it's also a good read for fans of true-life conspiracy stories.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Expose'Of Government Criminality, April 5, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: The Downing Of TWA Flight 800 (Paperback)
This is a tremendous book - the information has been meticulously researched. No stones were left unturned. It provides conclusive evidence that our government agencies were in collusion with the mainstream media and the White House to hide and obfuscate a case of mass murder in the skies. Anyone with any knowledge of fuel tanks, fuel tank explosions, ignition temperatures of jet fuel, volatility of jet fuels, etc., knows immediately that this aircraft could not possibly have exploded because of a "mechanical failure" (a center wing tank explosion). The government did not provide an opinion from any nationally recognized testing laboratory to verify their findings. The government denied the National Transportation Safety Board their duty to investigate the incident, but gave the responsibility to the FBI, an agency that does not normally investigate aircraft incidents. The government agencies, in obvious collusion with the White House, all agreed that this incident was caused by a "center wing tank explosion." The FBI, CIA, NTSB, FAA, et al, would hardly ever agree on anything, including sending a "get well" card to the Pope. Mr. Cashill and Mr. Sanders have opened "a can of worms," in my opinion, and exposed the gigantic and shocking amount of corruption that exists within our federal government.

4.0 out of 5 stars Persuasive, gutsy, and to the point!, July 17, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Downing Of TWA Flight 800 (Paperback)
James Sanders provides detailed facts, and his own theory about what happened on the ground, in the water, in the surrounding air space, and aboard doomed Flight 800 on that fateful eveing.

His argument is sound and persuasive, but as with any theory, it must be scrutinized carefully. What is great about this book is that Sanders asks the same of the government's theory . . . why don't more people scrutinize what Washington is force-feeding us about this incident.

A good, fast read with pictures of some evidence in the middle of the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tragedy from the Top, down, June 27, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: The Downing Of TWA Flight 800 (Paperback)
TRAGEDY FROM THE TOP, DOWN...

I read the book 2 years ago, have followed all the web sites and have availed myself of this city's (and other's) library full of the account since - and James Sander's recounting of the downing of TWA flight 800 is as real, and as ugly, and as truthful as it gets. If your head's still buried in the sand about US government cover-ups, you can barely face yourself in the mirror about "Spooks" and you believe every word the President utters on CNN...then take a Valium, sit in the corner, cover yourself up with a white sheet and we'll bring three squares a day to your cell. Yessir, what a life...

You don't have to be a Standard Missile "rocket scientist" to understand the findings in Sander's book - really. You just have to open your mind to the possibilities. Don't be surprised if sleep doesn't come once you start reading. The facts are all over the I-Net and in LIBRARIES AROUND THE WORLD, not just in Sander's vivid tale. Even better - join the Yahoo "800m" discussion group if you can handle the raw truth (and if you qualify) about this insidious and nefarious government crime shut-up.

CEC (Cooperative Engagement Capability) is a new-world reality and it's practiced on a regular basis by our military and their smart-weapons manufacturers (...although, the Navy has moved their CEC operations out of New York waters and reestablished them in the Hawaiian Islands [off Kauai] since the TWA 800 debacle). CEC, and its quirky bugs, are the shaky pillar on which large portions of future warfare will be conducted by our military. Study the web sites of our military manufacturers...do a Google search on CEC...read the hundreds of documented witness accounts of the 'missile theory' on the many TWA 800 web sites (heavily, and alarmingly, discounted by the 3-letter spooks and in the subsequent hearing)...take a basic aeronautics course at your local community college...read a freshman high-school physics book...become an informed citizen of your own country. If you don't come away from this book better informed, slightly aghast, or petrified, at its implications then you haven't looked deeply enough into your own bathroom mirror, naked. In fact, I'd be amazed if the 3-letter guys ever allow this review to be published.

Become a mensch, embrace reality for once -- and read Sander's book and sequel. Then get ready for a wake-up call: it's worse than whatever you just read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Compare this book to the media hype, July 13, 1998
By
The media and all of so-called experts only serve to prove that this book has uncovered the truth. Take this test. Read this book and come to no conclusions. Now, think back during the past two years and recount the all of the "new theories" (sat on runway too long, fuel vapors, spark in center fuel tank, emf from nearby military planes, etc) that have been slung at the public. Continue listening as the "experts" search for "new theories". Also listen closely to the actual wording used in Q & A of the NTSB, FAA, et. al. They will speak ad-nauseum regarding all of the theories except the missile. To that, the answer goes something like "We have no proof that a missile brought the plane down - next question." Ask yourself if you can remember an airliner accident that had so many theories. You will need no more proof. This book is self-proving.

4.0 out of 5 stars True: good book on missle theory but it was not the Navy, June 17, 2002

What a lot of people don't like about this book is that it accuses the US Navy of the probable missle shoot-down of TWA Flight 800. But, when reading this book, substitute "US Navy" with "Al Queda", keeping in mind the below link.

Then the book will ring true.

I rate the book 4 stars and not 5 because it tries to advance the US Navy hypothesis a bit too strenously. The book should have been more neutral. It is almost impossible the US Navy could have kept such a secret.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another government cover-up, August 13, 2000
By
Shawn Smith (Cumberland Gap, TN United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Downing Of TWA Flight 800 (Paperback)
For all you conspiracy theorists out there, this book is for you. James Sanders does a great job researching the material for this book and his arguments are clear and to the point. Its scary to think the government could actually cover-up anything like this, but if you remember the news conferences the government gave they changed their story at least four times. For example, the military confirmed there were missile tests in the area then this story was changed to avoid criticism. Also, there were around 200 witnesses that saw a streaking light going towards the plane before it exploded. The government gave many reasons for this, with the best being electrical currents from power lines, and even tried to discredit all the witnesses. Sanders talks about this and many other examples that readers will find both fascinating and scary at the same time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best of Its Kind, November 4, 2006

This review is from: The Downing Of TWA Flight 800 (Paperback)
I've been aware of James Sanders for some years, but put off reading FIRST STRIKE, because the purported story of the downing of TWA 800 seemed to me too horrifying to face. Finally I began to read it -- warily at first -- but now with something like enjoyment of its lucidity. Many books have been written about such problematic events as the JFK assassination, or whose agency, under whose administration, did more foot-dragging before 9/11, or whether the attacks on the WTC had state actors backing Al Qaeda. None of the books in that category that I have read are as comprehensive, as gap-free with regard to the data, or as careful and consistent in explaining the evidence. Another reviewer complains that the authors advance no theory to explain motivation of the people responsible. Precisely. The authors only talk about what they know. The book keeps speculation to a bare minimum. If one goes through it chapter by chapter, what is presented is courtroom-level probative. On the one side, hard data interpreted by a wide spectrum of experts. On the other side, a pattern of inconsistencies, illegalities, intimidation, confiscation of evidence, and alibis that can only convince those who are not paying attention. Sanders and his co-author have taken on the very big guns -- Sanders has suffered serious persecution though he is currently on the offense legally -- to defend the truth, to speak out for the victims, to keep their honor, to expose wrongdoing, and to defend our country's core principles. They are fighting a good fight. To read about it is both fascinating and heartening.

5.0 out of 5 stars A super engaging book., August 25, 2000
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Downing Of TWA Flight 800 (Paperback)
Unless Jim Sanders lied and wrote a total work of fiction, which is highly doubtful, this book suggests a frightening scenario which he has made very believable. Unfortunately, everything I have seen and heard from the government and media tends to make his description more believable. The one theory nobody in the public eye has reacted to is the one Sanders proposes. The best defense is to totally ignore the information you want others to ignore and that seems to be the response to Sanders. I would like to see someone with some linkage and guts shine some light on what Sanders claims happened and not allow the government to sweep it under the rug. I would like to see this guy get some air time or interviews in some high profile print and see where it goes.
