I've heard talk of revival among Christians for many years. Finally, a real route to revival grounded in the Word of God. As a Christian and as a minister, I'm thankful for the ministry of James McDonald and I believe he has opened the floodgate to real revival. This is not a "churchy, feel-good" revival, but a personal, heart-rending leading to a new vibrancy in your relationship with the Lord. If you read only one book other than the Bible this year, make this the one.

I first heard of this book several years ago. I used to attend a church that would include book recommendations/descriptions in the bulletin. This one caught my attention, even back then. I tried several times to find it at my local Christian bookstore and Barnes and Noble, but never could. But it was still something I wanted to read. I recently received a Kindle, so I decided to see if this book was available as a Kindle book. When I saw it was, I immediately ordered it.

This book is amazing! It deals with the subject of personal revival. In the introduction, the author cautions the reader against reading this books with your church (or anyone else) in mind. But to keep it just between you and God. I think that is excellent advice. I believe, that we are never going to see revival in our country and churches unless and until we are willing to allow it to begin with us. This is a very hard-hitting and convicting book. It deals with subjects like seeing our sin as God does, grace, forgiveness, and repentance. But make no mistake, the author pulls no punches. Instead, he holds up a mirror for the reader and helps us examine what is truly in our hearts. He helps us get honest with God and ourselves about our sin. This is one of those books that I think should be required reading for every Christian, regardless of how long they have walked with the Lord. If you read it with an open heart and mind, this book will challenge you and change your life. Your walk with God will never be the same after reading this book. This is not a book to rush through. It is a book to meditate, think, and pray about it.

There is one thing however, that didn't sit quite right with me regarding this book. Included in this list of sins that we need to deal with God about, the author lists depression.

This is an incredible study on personal revival!! It ranks right up there with Henry Blackaby's "Experiencing God." I have gone through the workbook twice already. We have taught it to our youth twice and our entire church once. A must-read for every Believer in Christ! This one should be reviewed regularly as a refresher!

Has your relationship with the Lord lost its freshness? Has it grown a little stale? If so, James MacDonald's new book, Downpour, offers some much needed guidance. Times of refreshing are available from the Lord if we are willing to cooperate with the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives as He labors to ignite a personal revival in each of our hearts. MacDonald identifies and explains five essential ingredients if genuine revival is going to happen. We must learn to see God on the throne, sin in the mirror, self in the dirt, Christ on the cross, and the Spirit in control.

This book is well written. MacDonald is articulate and concise, easy to follow, and enjoyable to read. He purposely avoided lots of illustrations (this is explained in the introduction) and while this is often detrimental, it seemed to streamline the flow of thought and increase the readability. Its primary strength is derived from its Scriptural base. MacDonald does not present his opinions and preferences; he turns to the Bible and calls us to obey its teachings.

I give this book a strong recommendation. Many in the Church who have been Christians for a while would describe their faith as being a little dull, predictable, and even uninteresting. And while this is unfortunate, it is not incurable. MacDonald helps us refocus on essential biblical truth. Pick up this book, read it thoroughly, and then pass it on to a friend.

This is one of the most profound books I have ever read in my 35 years as a Christ follower! If you love the Lord, but have come to a dry place in your faith, you need a "downpour," and this book can be a key in helping you get back on track!

I stumbbled upon this book while in the library one day. I opened it and just by reading the introduction alone, I begin to tear up. I knew within a short amount of time that this book was meant for me to read it. Pastor James MacDonald is very frank, honest, and open regarding the revelation He has received about His God. And it has changed my life. I have started a Christian woman book club just for this book and have suggested this book to every man that I know. Kudos to Pastor James MacDonald.
