5.0 out of 5 stars The LocoRoco of Puzzle Games, March 31, 2008
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Downstream Panic! (Video Game)
I just picked up this title over the weekend, and I must say I'm finding it very enjoyable -- much more so than Patapan. The controls are intuitive, and the level designs and challenges clever. Basically your goal is to guide the flow of water from the top of the screen so a school of fish can get back to the sea at the bottom of the screen. To control the flow, you activate a number of items, like a plant that diverts water, a bomb that opens holes, a harpoon to kill enemy fish, and more. The tricky part is activating the items in the right places and at the right times. Choose the wrong places or install items too late, and you watch haplessly as your dead fish count rises and rises. Time to hit "reset" and try again! The graphics and soundtrack are sunny and cute, reminding me of LocoRoco. IMO this is a perfect game for PSP -- easy to pick up and put down. Highly recommended!

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice Pick-Me-Up, May 3, 2009
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Downstream Panic! (Video Game)
Downstream Panic is like a lemmings/puzzle cross-over with cuteness factor. The story goes that fish living in the sea were suddenly swiped up into the air. It is the player's job to return as many sea-critters to the waters as soon as possible.

There are three levels within the game. However, two of them are not accessible at the time and need to be unlocked. The puzzles themselves range from very easy to very hard as the levels continue. The player will be harpooning flamingo's, sharks, and avoiding the deadly jaws of gigantic sharks below or face tiny blood burst of yelping fish. There is a variety of tools to choose from to interact with the environment, from fans, bombs, nets and others.

The music in the game isn't bad and the fish will sing in a chipmunk style. However that seems like the only looping soundtrack in the game and after awhile one might have an urge to turn down the music.

As for the gameplay itself the difficulty level advances as more and more levels are finished. Because of this some players may require a walkthrough in order to advance in the stages. However there is a reset button available to redo the stage over again if a mess up occurs. Also in the adventure there is no option of going back and redoing old stages, however the free-play mode offers this once unlocked.

There are extra bonuses available to be unlocked or downloaded into the game. This includes levels or changing the appearance of the fish.

Overall this is a nice game to purchase new between the $10.00-$17.00 price tag.
