Thrash Till Death!,
By
This review is from: Downtown Hades (Audio CD)
1998's Downtown Hades is the second album from Norwegian thrashers Inferno, a side project of members of other Norwegian metal bands. The band plays retro thrash metal with more than a little punk energy. To me they sound like Dekapitator meets Tankard, mainly because they have some decent chops but obviously aren't taking themselves too seriously.
Besides being a solid thrash album, Downtown Hades is also pretty freaking hysterical. The band members' aliases (Aggressor, Necrodevil, Bestial Tormentor and one other that will go unmentioned because it would never clear the site's filters) are crazy, the liner notes crack me up, and how can you not love an album that starts with three songs about Hell and includes titles like "In Bed With Satan" and "Alcoholocaust"? It's all tongue-in-cheek, and reminds me of the old school crossover stuff like DRI and SOD. I just wish they had included lyrics in the liner notes. Unfortunately, Downtown Hades was Inferno's final (full-length) release. The band members have remained active with other projects. If you're looking for a good, crazy thrash metal album, you could do a lot worse than Downtown Hades.
