It's simple---buy it!,

How THIS album doesn't stay in print is beyond me. After doing time w/the Arc Angels, Doyle II surprised everyone with this very solid debut. For those expecting Arc Angels part 2 they'll be surprised but not disappointed. Layers of guitars (without being overdone), great arrangements, really solid songs and of course Doyle's soulful voice. After listening to this, you can see why Clapton himself asked Doyle, "WHY aren't you more well known in the U.S.??" Easily one of the best releases in 1996 and certainly the most overlooked thanks to Geffen Records essentially ignoring Doyle. Buy it! I've turned many a friend on to this one.

this guy is the "real deal"...when i first heard the Arc Angels,i flipped, amazing album front to back...this being his first solo effort, doyle jumps out all guns blazing...the guy smokes...his voice is so errie soulful, you'll be swimming in gooseflesh. his guitar playing is equaly satisfying and most important, he's an amazing songwriter. it's no wonder the likes of Clapton, B.B. King & Roger Waters have sought his musical wisdom recently. the guy will knock yer socks off...check out "jellycream" as well as his most recent effort, "Doyle Bramhall & Smoke Stack" they don't dissapoint.

Great Melodies and Feelings,

As a Doyle fan since Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble, I say that this record is the best view of his own personality and musical ability, even after Arc Angels, his debut band after SRV works. Arc Angels album is pretty good too, but not so intense and deep like this one. I heard so many people tell me that it sucks, its songs is too sad and stuff, but there's a great feeling in this album, and the arrangements, including the more than perfect work as backing vocalists and producers Wendy & Lisa (ex- Prince), who creates lots of mellow textures and colors for all songs. In fact, the concept is very sad, 'cause it probably reflects all his health problems caused by drugs and alcohol. However, we wish that all of it have passed, and certainly he'll release other great albums like this, and like the indispensable "Jellycream", maybe the best, et all.
