5.0 out of 5 stars best bottles around - forget the rest!
When my son was born, we tried sampling bottles from several different manufacturers, including Evenflo, Triflow, Avent, etc. Dr Brown's bottles really are the best in preventing gas, bottle leakage, and flow problems. We ended up throwing all other bottles away. I had read other reviews about the small parts being difficult to wash, but I don't really have a problem...

3.0 out of 5 stars Consider narrow necked Dr. Brown bottles instead
I purchased the wide mouthed bottles for my twins. Could not figure out why the formula kept leaking out of the side of their mouths. One of my daughters lost at least 1/3 of her bottle each time. Very frustrating and very messy. This did not happen at all when I switched to the narrow necked Dr. Brown's bottle.

When my son was born, we tried sampling bottles from several different manufacturers, including Evenflo, Triflow, Avent, etc. Dr Brown's bottles really are the best in preventing gas, bottle leakage, and flow problems. We ended up throwing all other bottles away. I had read other reviews about the small parts being difficult to wash, but I don't really have a problem with that. We don't have a dishwasher and I end up hand washing everything. Each set of bottles comes with a tiny brush for getting into the small spaces for the inner parts to the bottles; and a regular bottle brush works fine with the bottles themselves. I can wash and fill 9 bottles in under 20 minutes (perfect timing when putting my son down for a nap). My only suggestion is to bypass getting 4 oz bottles and go right for the 8 oz bottles. We started off with the 4 oz bottles and now, at 3 months old, our son is already up to 6 oz at a feeding. So, we had to pack away the 4oz bottles and go out and buy a bunch of the larger size.

5.0 out of 5 stars So far, so good..., November 26, 2004

Our one-month old daughter has had quite a talent for spitting-up about a 4-oz. bottle's worth of formula two to three times a day. We had been using Avent, which seemed to work just fine for our first daughter, but not for no. 2. Thus, after reading lots of reviews (and realizing that every bottle has some great reviews and some terrible reviews!) -- and on our pediatrician's recommendation -- we tried Dr. Brown's. Over the course of the last three days, our daughter has spit-up only once. I will admit that the guy standing next to me at the local store said that his kid spit-up a lot more with Dr. Brown's but that they have had great luck with Playtex...so I suppose it really does depend on your kid. My advice is to buy one bottle from a few different systems and start trying them until you find one that works well after several consecutive feedings.

Complaint rebuttals:

COST - without the right bottle, you'll spend as much on laundry detergent (for baby's bibs and clothes...as well as your own!) as you would on "better" bottles, so you may as well go ahead and get the right bottles now...and given all of the "patented" no-gas bottle systems out there now, Dr. Brown's really isn't that much more than the other ones.

DIFFICULTY IN CLEANING - deal with it. First of all, if you give a bottle a good rinse immediately after using it (rather than letting it sit around to collect a crust....anyone with a toddler has probably discovered an old bottle or sippy cup under the couch), then cleaning is not a problem. I'll spend an extra 30 seconds on a cleaning if it means my kid is not going to yack on me.

LEAKING - No bottle is guaranteed not to leak. We've had Avents that leaked, and Avents that didn't. We've had Evenflo sippy cups that leaked, and Evenflo sippy cups that didn't. So far, no leaking on Dr. Brown's for us, but I fully expect that eventually one of them will leak for one reason or another. It happens.

HELPFUL HINT for all Dr. Brown bottles: When pulling nipple thru the collar, everytime run your finger around the base of the nipple inside the plastic collar to make sure it is fully seated before screwing nipple and collar on to the bottle. Eliminates leaks completely. And do NOT over-tighten collar onto bottle. Again, will prevent leaks. We learned all of these tricks the hard way! :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Best bottle out there!, October 3, 2003

My daughter was colicky from day one and we initially started her on the Playtex push up bottles. Well, that didn't help the situation and we had heard of Dr. Brown's bottles so we gave it a try. These bottles really helped to cut down on the gas and burping that she did to a point where she seemed so much more comfortable. My nephew now uses them too and he has acid reflux. These are easy to clean and easy to use. Definitely recommend these all the way!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Bottles!, August 1, 2005
This review is from: Dr. Brown's Deluxe Wide Neck Bottle Starter Kit - 3 pack (Baby Product)
My husband and I originally tried the Avent bottles after several recommendations from previous users and after doing some research on our own. However, we switched to Dr. Brown's when our son began suffering from gas and nipple confusion, since I am nursing. We can't express how much we LOVE the Dr. Brown's bottles. Our son's gas IMMEDIATELY disappeared and he no longer suffered from nipple confusion. The Avent nipples are TOO HARD for a breastfed baby. Dr. Brown's bottles are the BEST BOTTLES ON THE MARKET! We'll use them with our next baby and will recommend to them to ANYONE that will listen.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT NECESSITY, March 4, 2005
This review is from: Dr. Brown's Deluxe Wide Neck Bottle Starter Kit - 3 pack (Baby Product)
This bottle starter kit is wonderful to have. It also comes with 2 nipples for cereal later on when your baby is old enough to take it. I don't mind cleaning the little parts with the pipe brush that comes in this pack. It's not like rocket science. My husband doesn't like the tubing, but he's only had to wash them once, so the other bottles were easy for him. Proves he didn't read the directions I asked him to go over. (Great way to see if your man pays attention, give him directions with anything to do with Baby!) I love the wide neck bottle feature. GOD bless whoever thought of that. It is sooooo much easier to poor in breastmilk or formula into these than regular ones.

The only drawback you might have is the directions tell you when you add formula, shake before adding tubing to prevent clogs. I have noticed this to be true. Just stir or shake well (make sure you cover the opening and not just put the top on like my hubby), and then place tubing in. Shake once more to be certain, and voila! Feed.

My daughter is now 5 months and I could count on one hand how many times she has spit up. Great to prevent colic, (I don't even know what colic is )(THANK GOD!), fussiness from gas, and spit up.

I give these bottles

5.0 out of 5 stars Best bottles for your baby, April 1, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Dr. Brown's Deluxe Wide Neck Bottle Starter Kit - 3 pack (Baby Product)
I am a foster mom for newborns and I use the wide neck bottles all the time for my babies. They have helped to eliminate spit up and it helps to control gassiness. The extra parts are a little time consuming to wash but worth it when your baby is happy because he/she is not gassy. I tried Avent bottles and stopped using them after the first use. The nipple is so much harder and the formula just leaked down the baby's face. By far, Dr. Brown's bottles are the best!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Bottle, September 17, 2004

I think that the dr. brown bottles do work, as my baby always burps really easily after feedings. I specially liked the wide neck bottles because my baby latched on to the bottles really easy, the wide neck resembles breastfeeding. the regular bottles gaged her so I did not use them. one word of caution though: they are quite difficult to clean because they have all these parts to them that it is sort of hard to get to, and so I have three different brushes that I use to clean the insides and the rubber peice that fits on the top. overall though, i must give this product a very high rating for good design, and the fact that my baby does not get gas afterwards.

4.0 out of 5 stars Kept our baby happy, no spit ups, colick, or ear infections, April 8, 2004

This review is from: Dr. Brown's Deluxe Wide Neck Bottle Starter Kit - 3 pack (Baby Product)
When we adopted our newborn, she was used to the nipples provided by the hospital and I searched forever to find a nipple that my baby would like. When I came across Dr. Brown's, I thought, this is a "gizmo" bottle and my husband will love it! Well, he did, and my daughter did, so I washed fewer bottles and had a happy baby. The main drawback is the washing all the pieces, but my husband usually did that! Many of the other adoptive parents we know liked these bottles too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Bottles!!, January 14, 2004
This review is from: Dr. Brown's Deluxe Wide Neck Bottle Starter Kit - 3 pack (Baby Product)
We used these bottles with our second child and think they are the best bottles out there. The bottle has a constant flow which is great...no air bubbles. Our son never had problems with gas, spit up or earaches thanks to these bottles. Yes, there are a few extra parts than most bottles but those extra parts are also what makes these bottles unique and good for your baby,it only takes about 2 seconds to put them together...very simple!! The bottles will only leak if you have the bottle filled past the fill line otherwise no leaking. We are expecting #3 and will definitely be using Dr. Brown's bottles again...a must have!!
