5.0 out of 5 stars Great tool for preparing your bottles
Some people like to mix formula in the bottles as needed, but at 2am I wasn't having any part of that AND a newborn who was screaming from being hungry. Instead, we purchased this pitcher to mix up large amounts of powdered formula. You can make as little as 8 ounces and as many as 32 ounces so it will take you from birth through the first year - not bad for a product...

3.0 out of 5 stars Very useful but not very durable.
Pros:

- This pitcher is exceptional as far as reducing foam. Similac Sensitive is horribly foamy and I wound up scooping out the 3/4" of foam that formed when I would mix bottles individually. This pitcher does away with that problem completely.

- Very convenient to mix a day's worth of formula and just have it in the fridge.

- Although the mechanism comes across as "flimsy", it really isn't. It works fine and the parts are meant to be loose-fitting.

Cons:

- As far as I can tell, this cannot be sterilized either with boiling water or in the microwave.

- After about 4 mos of use, my pitcher has started to warp slightly. I am surprised, as I never put it in the dishwasher so it's not exposed to high heat. Since it's now slightly misshapen, the fit of the lid is no longer true and I experience leaks both during mixing, when the level of the liquid is too close to the top of the pitcher and splashes upward, as well as during pouring. Drag.

I'm here to buy a second one. Not thrilled that I'm having to do this, and at 6 mos of age, my baby's probably going to require a third one before the bottle feeding's done. Not the end of the world but for this transgression, the pitcher loses a couple of stars.

Some people like to mix formula in the bottles as needed, but at 2am I wasn't having any part of that AND a newborn who was screaming from being hungry. Instead, we purchased this pitcher to mix up large amounts of powdered formula. You can make as little as 8 ounces and as many as 32 ounces so it will take you from birth through the first year - not bad for a product you will use every day and is less than $20! The measuring amounts are raised on the plastic so there is no chance of them washing away or losing visibility over time or use. The pitcher is 4 parts and is dishwasher safe. 3 of the parts absolutely must go on the top rack and the little handle thing can sit safely in the silverware bucket of the dishwasher. To use the pitcher: just measure out the formula, fill with water as needed and simply pump the handle up and down. It's pretty simple. Some of the reviewers complain about air bubbles after mixing and that is easy enough to fix - let the formula rest a bit prior to pouring in the bottles. It's not that big of a deal. Overall this product is great. It does exactly what it claims to do and is less than $20.00. Worth purchasing for HOME formula preparation. If you are looking for something to use for travel, consider an electric mini mixer that you just pop in the bottle.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for foaming baby formula, May 16, 2009

We bought two of these mixers for our twins several months ago. They work well for foaming baby formula, such as thickned formula for babies with reflux. Remember, when mixing formula that tends to foam, do not raise mixing blades above the liquid level in the container because it sucks air into the formula and causes more foaming. The impellers from our first two mixers broke (plastic piece attaching impeller blades to shaft)after a few months of use, but we just bought two more mixers! It should see us through the rest of formula feeding (another few months).

our baby used to swallow tons of air in her bottle and we switched to dr. brown's bottle. we're glad that the pitcher goes that extra effort with not introducing air to begin with. the mixer works really well with removing clumps and is a well-designed product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best $15 I've ever spent., January 18, 2010
This review is from: Dr. Brown's Formula Mixing Pitcher (Baby Product)
I bought this pitcher because I was sick of shaking up one bottle at a time. This pitcher makes life so much easier. We make all of our daughter's bottles at night for the next day. I cannot express to you how wonderful this thing is! The little blue stopper is useless and we threw it out the second day we used it. But, you don't need it...just watch how high you are bringing up the spinner. Seriously, you want this pitcher in your life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Makes Night-time Feedings Easier, Good for R.S. Formula, November 17, 2009

I make up a pitcher of formula at night, before going to bed. When my little guy wakes up, all I do is measure 6 oz. in a Pyrex cup and microwave for about 20 seconds. The formula is at the perfect temperature, and it's so much faster to do it this way than to stick a bottle in a warmer and wait.

Originally, I bought this pitcher to make it easier to mix up a special formula that had rice starch in it. If your baby has to use such a formula, I would definitely purchase this. I always had trouble with clogged nipples when I mixed the formula in a bottle. With the pitcher, there are no clumps---the formula is so smooth. Just be sure to agitate the formula a little bit if it's been sitting a while in the refrigerator---the rice starch tends to settle on the bottom.

This pitcher does exactly what it says it does. There are never any lumps in the formula and I mix alumentum. I would recommend this. My son has very bad reflux and it did help reduce the bubbles. I would mix the night before and give it overnight to settle.

My arms were getting tired from shaking up bottles all day, and I knew as he got bigger he'd only be drinking more! This was such a good way to just prepare all the bottles for the day in the morning. Ours held up through daily use for 10 months. Formula came out smooth, definitely less lumpy (and less likely to clog the bottle nipple!) than when we mixed it by hand. If you fill it too full (say, more than 34 oz of water or so + the formula powder) you'll have to be very careful with how hard you push down on the mixer or it will spill out the top. However, for less than 30 oz of water (which ends up being about 36 oz or so of formula - 6 6-oz bottles) we didn't have to pay much attention. This was a great product for formula, and I was relieved that it even existed. Seems like there are so many resources for breast-feeding, but for those of us that need to rely more on formula, it's really difficult to find information.

I wasnt happy when I had to use formula and mixing it just added insult to injury. This pitcher is a dream. I can make 32oz in seconds, w/o air. This is a MUST have with twins. I would not advise making more than 32oz or it spills.

This pitcher has definitely improved our quality of life! Now we can make a full day's supply in one easy step.... I've also noticed that there are less air bubbles in the formula when mixing with this pitcher, so that is good for baby's tummy too! This has become my new Baby Gift for those Mommy's who will be formula feeding...
