My baby has reflux and extra gas just makes him completely miserable. We got these bottles when he was 3-weeks old and they really do make a difference! I'm a pediatrician, so I was a skeptic when I read that the bottle claimed to reduce gas/colic. But I think I'm convinced! At the very least, it makes it easier for him to eat since there is no negative pressure created from suction... the food just flows! Thus, the baby swallows less air from the having work so hard to get food. If your baby has reflux or is very gassy, this bottle is definitely worth a try!

I bought these bottles on a lark. I had read good things about them, but when I went to buy them at my Babies R Us, the only ones I could buy were the wide mouthed bottles. These bottles have a wider nipple that is shaped more like the breast. My son is primarily breast fed, but he has had no problems with these bottles when I don't feed him myself. I started giving him a few ounces of water at 2 weeks old, and he immediately took to these bottles. At one month, I tried to give him a six ounce Platex VentAir bottle after my Babies R Us was out of the larger Dr. Browns bottles. He refused to take to the smaller nipple. I suggest that you do use the wide mouth Dr. Browns bottles, but they are not available online.
I have not had a problem cleaning them at all. The only problem I have had comes when I do give him formula. The instructions say not to shake it in the bottle, so I usually stir it instead. One reviewer mentioned that when you add water, you go over the "Do not fill above this line" mark. I avoid this by measuring my water in a separate bottle, then I add about half the water, stir, then the other half. That has eliminated any problem regarding that mark.
I strongly recommend this product!

These bottles actually work great. In our first few attempts, our baby still seemed fussy (perhaps it was b/c he still had gas/stomache problems left over from other bottles) so we kept trying them and low and behold, he stopped being in pain and was a happy baby again. If you do not get results the first few times, keep using them. Eventually your baby's gas problems from using previous bottles will go away and you will see that these bottles work. I think it was the third day we used them when we finally saw the results.
As to the leak problems: Don't travel with them without the disks that come with them. That's why the were included. Another reason they may leak, is that parents are heating the milk in the bottle with the neck screwed on tightly. Simply unscrew and loosen the neck half a turn (to allow some pressure to be released) and it shouldn't leak. Tighten the neck tightly before feeding baby.
DON'T Mix formula in this bottle (or any bottle) for that matter. You shouldn't mix formula and feed the baby from the same bottle anyway (no matter what bottle you use) it creates too many gas bubbles that will hurt your baby.
As to the inconvenience of washing them: Are you kidding me!?!! After staying up several nights in a row in tears with a baby in pain from gas problems, spending the extra time to wash the little parts is a task I will do happily do if it continues to keep my baby (and me!) from staying up all night.
If your baby doesn't really have any painful gas problems, or spit up problems then this bottle may not be for you if you do not like to be incovenienced with the task of washing extra parts (which takes a whole 1 minute extra!). However, if you were like us and in tears from sleepless nights and baby in pain, these bottles are a GOD send.

My daughter was born 4 weeks early and when we tried her on formula we found she was allergic to the milk protein, which led us to a specialized formula (Nutramigen). On the formula is states for colic babies and babies with allergies. Nobody ever said she was a colic baby and we really didn't experience any of the colic symptoms with her at first. The formula is supposed to help with that. At about 4wks after she was born she started with what I called the violent feedings. She would scream out of control, didn't want her bottles, had trouble sleeping and would cry in pain when she passed gas. I tried Avent bottles, Platex Vent Aire, switching nipples, switching feeding positions, nothing seemed to work. I felt so helpless and at a loss of what to do for my daughter. After 7wks at home I returned to work and talked with a co-worker whose daughter is 2wks younger than mine and he stated he had the same problem and the tried Dr. Brown's bottles, that they were a little more money but well worth it. That day I went and purchased a few bottles and went home to try them out. At the first feeding she didn't like the new nipple so I tried it again at the next feeding and she took right to it and slept for 51/2 hours straight. I didn't know about the wide neck bottles at the time or I would have tried those first. Where I purchsed her first bottles they only carried the standard. Now Dr. Brown's is the only bottle we use and feedings are so wonderful and my daughter is so much happier and sleeps 6-7 hours already at 21/2 months. I wish that the hospital or even my doctor could have suggested these bottles to me, it could have prevented a lot of pain for her and a lot of sleepless nights for me. I don't see a lot of advertising for Dr. Brown's bottles but I will use nothing else and I tell all the mother's to be I know all about them. Theses bottles are a blessing.
