5.0 out of 5 stars Happier baby!
My baby has reflux and extra gas just makes him completely miserable. We got these bottles when he was 3-weeks old and they really do make a difference! 3.0 out of 5 stars My personal Pros and Cons
My personal Pros and Cons Of the Dr. Browns Bottles

Pros:

1. Seems to really reduce the amount of air my daughter intakes with each feeding. She rarely has to burp after a bottle.

2. My daughter loves the nipple. I've tried Playtex.. Avent.. Gerber all of which my daughter rejects. She will only feed off of the Doctor Browns...

I'm a pediatrician, so I was a skeptic when I read that the bottle claimed to reduce gas/colic. But I think I'm convinced! At the very least, it makes it easier for him to eat since there is no negative pressure created from suction... the food just flows! Thus, the baby swallows less air from the having work so hard to get food. If your baby has reflux or is very gassy, this bottle is definitely worth a try!

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVE THEM!!, June 10, 2003

This review is from: Dr. Brown's 4 oz Natural Flow Baby Bottle, 3 Pack (Baby Product)
I bought these bottles on a lark. I had read good things about them, but when I went to buy them at my Babies R Us, the only ones I could buy were the wide mouthed bottles. These bottles have a wider nipple that is shaped more like the breast. My son is primarily breast fed, but he has had no problems with these bottles when I don't feed him myself. I started giving him a few ounces of water at 2 weeks old, and he immediately took to these bottles. At one month, I tried to give him a six ounce Platex VentAir bottle after my Babies R Us was out of the larger Dr. Browns bottles. He refused to take to the smaller nipple. I suggest that you do use the wide mouth Dr. Browns bottles, but they are not available online.

I have not had a problem cleaning them at all. The only problem I have had comes when I do give him formula. The instructions say not to shake it in the bottle, so I usually stir it instead. One reviewer mentioned that when you add water, you go over the "Do not fill above this line" mark. I avoid this by measuring my water in a separate bottle, then I add about half the water, stir, then the other half. That has eliminated any problem regarding that mark.

I strongly recommend this product!

5.0 out of 5 stars NEW MOMS- TRY THESE FIRST!!!!!!!!!!!!!, August 1, 2002

This review is from: Dr. Brown's 4 oz Natural Flow Baby Bottle, 3 Pack (Baby Product)
I have tried Avent, Ventaire, Platex Nursers, Evenflo, and Gerber and let me tell you Dr. Brown's bottles are THE BEST by far.

My baby was bottle fed from the start and he could not get good suction on the wide nipples that are so popular right now. Therefore, he was swallowing a TON of air and spitting up constantly and always struggling every time I would feed him.

I tried these bottles as a last resort because they are more expensive and have more pieces to clean than other bottles, but it was WORTH every dime and the small amount of extra time to clean. (there are two extra pieces to throw into the dishwasher basket)

My child is relaxed and enjoys his feedings now. He has signifigantly reduced spit up and gas. Isn't it worth the extra time and money to have a happy baby? I recommend that you try these bottles FIRST and save yourself the time of having to switch later. You get what you pay for with these bottles! Another plus is that there are 3 different types of nipples (flex, regular and wide) and 2 types of bottles, wide mouth and regular so you are not limited to one particular type of bottle!

5.0 out of 5 stars These are a lifesaver!, July 1, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Dr. Brown's 4 oz Natural Flow Baby Bottle, 3 Pack (Baby Product)
I started using the Avent bottles because they claimed to reduce gas and spitting up. As a first time mom, I wanted to make sure we started on the right foot. From the beginning my son would cry after every bottle, if not during the bottle, and he would be soaked with milk that he spit out of his mouth during the feeding. It seemed as if he hardly got any milk at all, because what wasn't on the burp cloth was spit up shortly after the feeding. I had to give him anti-gas drops after every feeding for weeks. I finally decided that we needed to change bottles, and tried Dr. Brown's. He's been using the bottles for one week, and it's been amazing. He hardly burps, never cries after feedings, all of the milk gets swallowed, and he hasn't spit up yet. Maybe these bottles aren't right for every baby, but if a baby is having problems like my son was, it's worth giving these bottles a chance. It could make all the difference in the world.

5.0 out of 5 stars A BLESSING!!!, June 4, 2003
This review is from: Dr. Brown's 4 oz Natural Flow Baby Bottle, 3 Pack (Baby Product)
My daughter was born 4 weeks early and when we tried her on formula we found she was allergic to the milk protein, which led us to a specialized formula (Nutramigen). On the formula is states for colic babies and babies with allergies. Nobody ever said she was a colic baby and we really didn't experience any of the colic symptoms with her at first. The formula is supposed to help with that. At about 4wks after she was born she started with what I called the violent feedings. She would scream out of control, didn't want her bottles, had trouble sleeping and would cry in pain when she passed gas. I tried Avent bottles, Platex Vent Aire, switching nipples, switching feeding positions, nothing seemed to work. I felt so helpless and at a loss of what to do for my daughter. After 7wks at home I returned to work and talked with a co-worker whose daughter is 2wks younger than mine and he stated he had the same problem and the tried Dr. Brown's bottles, that they were a little more money but well worth it. That day I went and purchased a few bottles and went home to try them out. At the first feeding she didn't like the new nipple so I tried it again at the next feeding and she took right to it and slept for 51/2 hours straight. I didn't know about the wide neck bottles at the time or I would have tried those first. Where I purchsed her first bottles they only carried the standard. Now Dr. Brown's is the only bottle we use and feedings are so wonderful and my daughter is so much happier and sleeps 6-7 hours already at 21/2 months. I wish that the hospital or even my doctor could have suggested these bottles to me, it could have prevented a lot of pain for her and a lot of sleepless nights for me. I don't see a lot of advertising for Dr. Brown's bottles but I will use nothing else and I tell all the mother's to be I know all about them. Theses bottles are a blessing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cannot Complain!, January 10, 2003
By
This review is from: Dr. Brown's 4 oz Natural Flow Baby Bottle, 3 Pack (Baby Product)
After much research for the best bottle out there it appeared that Dr. Brown's would be it. So I bought the wide-neck ones (since they are suppose to be better for switching between breast and bottle) and have to say that I made the right choice. I have had no problems with using this bottle, not even with leaks, which seems to be a big problem with many brands.

My baby does not spit-up or gas-up with this bottle. And never had any nipple confusion switching between breast and bottle since she began at three weeks old. Mind you, this was a big concern for me since I wanted to continue breastfeeding once I returned to work. And, not to mention, I wanted other family members be able to enjoy feeding the little one too.

Bottom line...baby and I are both very happy. I highly recommend Dr. Brown's bottles. Yeah, they cost a little more and require a few moments more of cleaning time. But neither was an issue with me as I wanted the best for my baby, which I am sure you do too.

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVE THESE BOTTLES !!!!!!!!!!, January 10, 2003

This review is from: Dr. Brown's 4 oz Natural Flow Baby Bottle, 3 Pack (Baby Product)
My daughter is 2 weeks old and thank god it only took us until day two or three to figure out that the Dr. Brown's bottles were for her. We first tried the Avent bottles, but not only did they leak all over the place, but she was not taking much of it. I had bought Dr. Brown's bottles because of the reviews on this website and boy am I glad I did. Once I tried them, she took a LOT more and her fussiness/crying went down dramatically! I have not had any problems with leakage like others have mentioned. It only happened once when I had accidentally kept the bottle too long in the bottle warmer. I also do not have a problem with cleaning extra pieces (and I wash them by hand) since she loves them. I would recommend these bottles to everyone. The Avent bottles were a waste of money, but luckily we figured out what great bottles Dr. Brown's were. Thank you to all that recommended these bottles and to my sister who recommended trying a different bottle/nipple if she's not eating well. It worked !

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful bottles if you follow the directions!, September 11, 2002
By
"stephanieks" (Pleasantville, New York USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dr. Brown's 4 oz Natural Flow Baby Bottle, 3 Pack (Baby Product)
I used the Avent bottles for the first 4 weeks for my son. He spit up like crazy and was so gassy. He was constantly passing gas. Then I switched to the Dr. Brown's bottles. He rarely passes gas (maybe once or twice a day) and only spits up a drop or two when burping, if at all. All one has to do to avoid leaking, is to follow the directions that come with the bottles. So, when you put the bottle in a warmer, remove the nipple. If you do not remove the nipple when warming, the bottle will leak. Also, do not shake the bottles. Instead, mix any formula or breast milk with a spoon before putting all the parts together or mix it in a separate container and then pour it in the bottle. Finally, do not use the bottle without using all the parts or again, it will leak. If you follow these simple rules, you will be rewarded with a much happier baby and a lot less gas and spit up!! Cleaning the extra parts takes less than a minute. The benefits of this product make it well worth the extra time and money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Bottle Available, January 3, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Dr. Brown's 4 oz Natural Flow Baby Bottle, 3 Pack (Baby Product)
Being a first time mom, I purchased a couple of every brand of bottle on the market. My plan was to try them out and decide which worked best for my baby. Dr. Browns bottles are the best hands down!! Some bottles my baby wouldn't even take due to the nipple, and others created so many bubbles and vacuum problems that she slurped and gurggled every time she'd drink. The difference when she'd drink from a Dr. Brown's bottle was amazing. Her latch-on to the nipple was natural, and the flow of milk during drinking was smooth and continuous.

My baby also had gas issues, but they were greatly reduced when she drank from Dr. Browns. You could SEE the difference in air flow by just watching the milk. No bubbles were seen! So many mothers had raved about the Avent bottles, but my baby couldn't keep a constant suction on their nipples, so they were the first to be pitched in the garbage after watching her practically gag on milk. My little girl is ready to move on to 8 oz bottles, and I'll only buy the Dr. Browns.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally! A bottle that works after trying EVERYTHING else., January 3, 2006
By
This review is from: Dr. Brown's 4 oz Natural Flow Baby Bottle, 3 Pack (Baby Product)
I have tried everything on the market - no kidding. My son is ten weeks old. We found it hard to find a bottle that was 'just right'. I first spent a fortune on Avent bottles (sterilizer and other accessories, too), buying various sized nipples and bottles, including the disposable model. The nipples are just way TOO HARD for a baby to suck on, especially younger ones. Even the new 'softer nipples' are really hard and just to firm for babies to suck on without a major effort. He would scream for three hours after each feeding and spit up everything he managed to eat. He choked frequently, despite the smallest sized nipple opening. They leaked on occasion if the ring was overtighted. It helps to wet the nipple and ring before assembling which may be hard to do when traveling.

We then tried Gerber bottles which are similar to what hospitals use, but he was very gassy afterwards. This became a problem since the gas also caused him to spit up some - never as much as the Avent though.

Next we tried the Playtex nursers which were the best we'd found so far at that point. The latex nipples cannot be sterilized, which I found out after the holes in the nipples expanded and an excessive amount of milk produced feeding disasters. I tried the silicone ones, but they were not as soft and pliable. He also had a bit of a hard time adapting to these bigger, widder nipples, a more natural breast-like shape. Since he had never been breast fed, this was a challenge for him.

I then tried the Doctor Brown bottles. So far, this has been the best system I've found. Money was not an object so long as I could feed him successfully. The extra parts are somewhat time consuming to wash, but not really a big deal. We were spending more time cleaning spit up and doing additional laundry with the other bottles, so in the end, it's not a big deal - not to mention trying to comfort a screaming baby for hours on end.

I purchased the 4oz and 8oz slim bottles as well as the 9oz wide mouth model. I noticed that the Dr. Brown nipples have larger holes compared to the other models and he was getting way to much milk which would cause him to spit up from time to time. I then found that Dr. Brown also makes Premie sized nipples so I purchased these and used them instead of the size 2 nipple which is what the manufacturer recommends for a baby his age. This solved the problem instantly! The Premie size nipple flow is equivalent to the Playtex Slow Flow nipples. I am saving the size 1 and 2 for when he gets older.

I love the ergonomic design of the wide mouth Dr. Brown bottles, however they don't make Premie nipples for this particular bottle. I do use it, however for night time feedings when I add a small amount of cereal to my son's milk. The size 1 flow works great for this (this is the size that follows the Premie size and what is included with all the Dr. Brown bottles sold).

Mixing the formula took a bit of practice. I first pour the water and then add the formula. I keep an iced-tea spoon nearby, which is a smaller sized spoon with a longer handle used for mixing iced tea in tall glasses. This fits perfectly into the bottle. I stir it quickly but carefully since you don't want any excess bubbles. I found the formula tends to stick to the bottom of the bottle and sides so I make sure to check for clumps before I feed him. Swirling the milk in the bottle also does the trick for smaller amounts.

We are all VERY happy with the Dr. Brown bottles. Having tried just about everything on the market and spending a significant amount of money, I highly recommend these.
