Dr. Brown's bottles came very highly recommended by several of my friends. Despite their recommendations, I decided to try another brand of bottles. We very quickly switched to Dr. Brown's for a few reasons. My daughter did not like the other bottles but did great with accepting Dr. Brown's. She had to take bottles directly out of the hospital due to weight loss but transitioned well back to the breast. The part that is especially great about the bottles is that they have the same threading to work with Ameda and Medela breast pumps. I have personally used them with my Ameda Purely Yours Ultra pump.

If you use them with the Ameda pump, the one draw back is that the bottle is narrower than Ameda. As a result, when empty the flange is heavy enough to make them tip over and they do not fit snugly into the bottle holders on the top of the pump. Otherwise they work great.

This is the only bottle my baby will take. This bottle reduced his painful gas cries that usually follow! I would definitely recommend if your baby has reflux!

These Dr. Brown's bottles are very nice. They work just perfect. They helped reduce our baby's gas problems. We found our baby to be less gassy after we started using these bottles. The only downside is, there are lot of parts to be cleaned every time the bottle is used. :-) other than that my wife and I are happy with this purchase.

I have twins born at 33 weeks, and in the hospital they were given basic bottles (bottle, nipple, collar.) Both babies were tiny, but Baby B in particular had a very weak suck reflex, and with those bottles that baby didn't have the energy to suck more than 5mL before getting exhausted and passing out in my arms, needing the rest of the bottle to be given by gavage. When I brought them home, those were the only bottles I had, and they quickly turned into colicky, screaming babies, crying during and after feeds for hours. One of the nurses suggested I try Dr. Brown's bottles and my mother got me two of the 3-packs. We never looked back.

The formula flows smoothly out of these bottles - no more having to pull the bottles from their mouths (and let me tell you how frustrating that can be when it can take upwards of 5 minutes of battling with the baby to get them to latch onto the bottle nipple) to break the suction, they don't have to blow bubbles into the bottle to be able to actually get any food from it. This caused the amount of gas and screaming to drop dramatically.

Yes, they will still need to be burped, and yes they will still have gas (I recommend Equate Infant Gas Drops. Those plus these bottles plus light burping every couple ounces = happy babies,) that needs to be patted out of them. Remember folks, until they reach about two years of age, they can breathe and swallow at the same time, so even if the bottle's not giving them extra air, they can simply swallow some of what they're breathing.

Overall, these bottles are pretty good. We have tried many different bottles, but these are the ones we stuck with as the pros outweighed the cons for us. Here is why:

PROS:
- A soft nipple: our baby did not accept a hard nipple. The other bottles we tried either had a hard nipple that makes it possible to suck the milk through the little hole but is uncomfortable for baby mouths, or have a soft nipple that can be sucked closed, preventing milk from going through the nipple. I guess it is the blue tube that makes it possible for this bottle to prevent the soft nipple from being sucked closed.
- No unsafe materials used (that I know of) in the nipple or bottle.
- Light weight.

CONS:
- Although it comes with a little brush to make it easier to clean the little cream-colored insert, cleaning it is still pretty difficult if you want to do it well. After use of several months and very thorough cleaning, some built-up residue remains on it, making it a little unhygienic in the long run (two of our six bottles even had some mold on it after long-term use!). Solution: buy some new ones after a while, they are not very expensive.
- More to wash than most other bottles (5 items, including the lid).
- If you do not use the little transportation caps provided with the box (I know you should use them, but when you're outside it is pretty unhygienic to take off the nipple in order to remove the cap, and then put the nipple back on), transporting it may lead to leaking.

The box comes with a little manual, a small narrow cleaning brush (also great to use for cleaning the lids of sippy cups!), and transportation caps.

My wife and I originally purchased the Dr. Brown's bottles to help with our daughter's colic. I am not entirely sure if they helped, but my daughter did seem to have less problems with gas. We have now had the bottles for about 3 months and they all seem to have started leaking badly. If you use these bottles, fully expect to have to replace them every couple of months. Also...for those not aware of the Dr. Brown's system, it uses two extra pieces to "assist the flow of air" within the bottle. As the one cleaning the bottles, I quickly noted how hard these parts are to clean (since they have small holes that formula can get trapped in). It is not completely accurate to say that they are hard to clean, but fully expect your bottle cleaning time to double. Also, one of the parts is a rubber ring that goes between the bottle and the nipple. My experience has been that this is the problem with the leaking...basically, you have twice the cracks to seal when tightening the bottle, and if one of those spaces is slightly warped or has a little bit of formula between it and the opposing surface...you will get a leak.

My wife and I now have to use a cloth under the bottle to catch the nearly constant drip from the leaks. We have ordered Nuk bottles to try next (since our daughter is out of the colic age), and I hope we have better luck with them.
