Great album; crappy re-release,

This review is from: Dr. Feelgood (Audio CD)
Re-released to coincide with their upcming Cruefest 2 Tour, where it will be played in its entirety, this version of Dr. Feelgood shows that some bands are too high in their laurels to pay attention to their released product.
When Motley was struggling in the mid 90s to stay relevant, they released the excellent Crucial Crue series, which included demos, instrumentals and unreleased versions. Dr. Feelgood's Crucial Crue is excellent and complete. Including FOUR demos and the unavailable Get It For Free, it encompassed the process that led to the success of Dr. Feelgood. However, this new version, includes only the five singles in live versions previously found in 1998's Motley Crue Live Entertainment or Death, which, in itself, is a very bad live album. So, do yourself a favor and hunt for the Crucial Crue version, if you don't have it, and stay away from this re-re-release that adds nothing of value to this magnificent album.

"Dr Feelgood" and "Shout at the Devil" are the top two Motley Crue albums. (Depending on my mood, which is first and which is second.)'Nuff said.

The first album to be taken seriously by the critics, as I recall, and it still sounds great 20+ years on.
Only downside are the live tracks - Vince Neil, bless him, is not the world's greatest singer, and if these tracks are anything to go by his memory for lyrics is heading south as well. Still, a small issue when you consider the quality of such tracks as Dr Feelgood itself, Kickstart My Heart etc.

The songs from Dr. Feelgood are remastered so that's a good thing, the live material doesn't sound all that great though. Whatever.

Motley Crue- Dr. Feelgood (if you actually look at the lyrics...),

...you'd be amazed or more interested in what you're hearing and have a better judgement as to whether the content's benefits outweigh the production of the song.
Moods: -Energetic -Somber -Businessman -Aesthetic Appreciative -Bittersweet/sweet -Obscene -Encouraging -Tough Fast highlights of this album are the hits, "Kickstart My Heart" and "Dr. Feelgood," a song which is actually about people selling drugs. I decry the one part of "Slice of Your Pie" which revolves around fascination of an immature girl. On the other hand, "Without You" is the most bittersweet song on this album, but the lyrics act too weakening of the dominant romantic partner. "Don't Go Away Mad (Just Go Away)" is a reasonable goodbye song but has a tinge of regretful feeling in it. Even though the slowness and slight crescendo of it gets annoying, the self-explanatory "Time for Change" is a praiseworthy song. I overlooked the demos and such that didn't go along with the original related subject. |
