5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book and even gives you back up info
I wasn't sure if I needed both books about the no sugar no flour diet. This book gives you recipes as well as info on the actual diet. You can skip the first book and just get this one and be just as informed.

1.0 out of 5 stars Healthy?? Far from it.
Dr. Gott's book may have low fat recipes that don't include flour or sugar, but I have to say that it's far from 'healthy'. Most of his recipes include Splenda, which is known for it's long list of health concerns, and fat/sugar-free ingredients. Also, he tends to use things like egg substitute and other 'fake' ingredients rather than using the natural, whole food form...

4.0 out of 5 stars No Flour and No Sugar, January 6, 2008
The no flour diet is good for people who are gluten
intolerant. The no sugar diet is good for pre-diabetics.
A beauty of the work is that the author provides a
plethora of meal choices together with the applicable
recipes. Doing without sugar and wheat may help with
controlling internal inflammation so that the metabolism
can operate optimally to burn fat. The author is short on
the medical specifics of this regimen, although I know
the wisdom of this book from personal/practical experience.

Food pointers are contained throughout. For instance, olive
oil may be sprayed onto food. Saccharine, splenda, stavia and
neotame are classic sugar substitutes. Green or white tea
is an optimal drink, as opposed to canned soda (diet or
otherwise ). No-fat yogurt is an optimal carb with a
very low glycemic index.

Snacks may be made from natural fruits and nut bars containing
chopped dates, figs, walnuts, cinnamon and other healthful
choices. Salads may be peppered with seeds, spinach, cran, raisin,
bacon, bits, kidney beans, grapefruit segments and cucumber.

The diet regimen is sound advice based upon my experience; however,
extensive medical references seem to be absent. Nonetheless,
the book will assist in eliminating foods that retard the
metabolic processes. For this reason alone, the book is worth
purchasing.

4.0 out of 5 stars No Flour, No Sugar cookbook, February 8, 2008

This cookbook provides good recipes for healthy eating. As my husband and I are trying to cut down on white flour and sugar in our diets, I've used this cookbook several times to try new recipes. One recipe--for a spicy cornbread using corn meal and oatmeal is quite good, and I'll make it again.

This review is from: Dr. Gott's No Flour, No Sugar(TM) Cookbook (Paperback)
Dr. Gott's book may have low fat recipes that don't include flour or sugar, but I have to say that it's far from 'healthy'. Most of his recipes include Splenda, which is known for it's long list of health concerns, and fat/sugar-free ingredients. Also, he tends to use things like egg substitute and other 'fake' ingredients rather than using the natural, whole food form and almost every recipe calls for canned ingredients rather than making and/or cutting up your own (canned tomatoes, canned beans, canned fruits/veggies, etc). The healthiest way of eating is to eat food in its whole form. Get rid of the fake ingredients (i.e: splenda, egg substitute, everything fat free) and use whole foods which are much healthier for you and which your body can recognize as real food. If you're looking for a way to lose weight AND eat healthy, I would suggest purchasing a book using whole foods, there are many great ones available. Then you will know that your body is getting 'real' ingredients and that it can utilize the things that you are putting into your mouth.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good advice and good recipes combined, May 21, 2008
By
I had never heard of Dr. Gott's no flour, no sugar diet when I first found this cookbook. I must admit that I was instantly skeptical when I saw the title....no flour and no sugar? Would it be possible to make edible food without these two supposedly essential ingredients? As I began to flip through the recipes, my skepticism started to wane. Breakfast Apple Pie? Sounds appealing. Faux Spaghetti? Intriguing. Mandarin Mousse? Fabulous!

I instantly headed toward the kitchen to try some of the recipes. My first endeavor was the eggs in nests. What a great snack and super easy to make! Further tries on the recipes were just as easy and just as tasty. I was won over in just a few recipes. This book gives you recipes that are easy to make, full of flavor, and plentiful enough that you can eat from this plan quite regularly, if not full time. My one complaint is that there are a ton of seafood-based recipes in the book. If you are not a fan of seafood, you will have some challenges with variety in this diet.

One of the best features of the book is that it goes beyond just the recipes. Dr. Gott's diet is encapsulated in a few introductory chapters and gives a good overview of why a sugar and flour free diet is beneficial. It also gives tips and tricks for surviving the world outside your kitchen, avoid the yo-yo diet pitfalls, and how border line foods such as alcohol and chocolate should be dealt with. It helps take all the great recipes and fit them into a healthy and well-rounded diet.

Chock full of easy-to-make recipes that taste great, this book will be great for anyone looking to enjoy a healthy diet and limit their flour and sugar intake.

5.0 out of 5 stars No hunger, no stress diet and its cookbook, December 12, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
My husband and I have been trying to lose weight for a long time. We bought both the No Flour, No Sugar Diet book and the No Flour, No Sugar Cookbook. We have been able to lose around 10 pounds each in around 2 weeks. The first book is clear to understand because is written in clear English, no medical mumbo-jumbo.
The cookbook has inspired my husband to cook new recipes and I'm impressed, not only some of those recipes are true delicatessen, but also easy to prepare.
The cookbook also has inspired us to create our own recipes, such as oatmeal crepes, they are delicious!. My son who is not on a diet ate two the other day and he never realized they weren't made of flour.
The spaguetti squash is another discovery in that book. I'm a fan of spaghetti, and although the consistency of the spaghetti squash fibers is not exactly as real noodles, once we mix them with the sauce and meat, they just taste like some fancy special wheat spaguetti.
My husband also has made some peanut butter from scratch and mixes it with oatmeal and splenda and they are a treat we eat sometimes.
The only way to know how good this diet is, it is by starting. Now we are feeling ready to start to do some exercise. Before losing some weight was unthinkable for us.

I have been on them all. This diet is very easy and the book is easy to read with recipes. I also purchased the recipe book and it is full of wonderful recipes. This is not an overnight weight loss. It comes off slower than others, but I am very happy with it and not at all hungry.

5.0 out of 5 stars No Flour - No Problem, January 5, 2008
I give Dr. Gott great credit for popularizing the No Flour No Sugar concept.

Those items alone are very responsible for making a lot of people dangerously overweight.

I even refer my own readers to Dr. Gott's book as a great source of information. My weight loss and complete fitness book, Fat Into The Fire, talks about flour being the same as 'glue'. Add flour to sugar, and now you basically have sugar with sugar.

Thanks Dr. Gott for increasing the awareness of how bad flour and sugar are for people.

4.0 out of 5 stars less headaches, February 7, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I found this book to be very helpful. I suffer from migraine headaches and I decided to try and eliminate items from my diet. Eliminating sugar and flour helped a lot. It is easy to eliminate the flour, but the sugar is hard, it is in everything and I think once I figured out how to read the labels and eliminated the sugar my headaches really improved. I did not loose weight though like most everyone claims to have. The recipes are simple and taste great. It really helped me to learn how to convert a lot of my own recipes and apply what I learned.

I bought this book after being diagnosed with Celiac Disease. I wanted more recipes that didn't contain flour substitutes and would help me integrate more whole foods into my entire family's diet. This book is outstanding! There are recipes for just about every level of culinary ability, and just about every palate. My boys are almost 5 and 3 and they have willingly eaten every thing I have tried out of this book! They loved the mini quiche recipe and the cucumber salad is a favorite! If you're looking to make some healthy choices in your kitchen, this will definitely add some variety to your menu!
