5.0 out of 5 stars Dr. Hook. One of the most underated bands of the seventies!
This album is one of the great ones and it is just ashame that this awesome band didn't get the recognition in the seventies when they deserved it. This album gives you alittle bit of everything. Just when you are all relaxed listening to "Sylvia's Mother", it comes out and hits you with the comical and feel good song "Cover of the rolling stone",...

2.0 out of 5 stars Latter Day Hook
I suppose if you love Dr. Hook's latter-era disco sell-out, you might like this. The first two songs, from the brilliant Bankrupt album (unavailable on CD in the US) are almost worth the money. The rest is disco love ballads. And the mastering is absolutely horrid. You'll find better compilations elsewhere.

Just when you are all relaxed listening to "Sylvia's Mother", it comes out and hits you with the comical and feel good song "Cover of the rolling stone", and you even get alittle of that great disco sound from my personal favorite "Sexy Eyes" and "When your in love with a beautiful woman", I couldn't end this review without mentioning the extremely sexy "Sharing the night together". I just hope that Dr. Hook themself shop at amazon and see that there are true fans out there like me who appreciate their music. Buy this album!!!! You will not be sorry.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dr. Hook is awesome, August 16, 1999

I know very little about Dr. Hook. My friend made me listen to one of his songs a couple of years ago and I thought it was pretty good. Then this summer they were coming to Edmonton and for some reason she had an extra ticket and she gave it to me. I went knowing two songs (Cover of the Rolling Stone and You make my Pants Want to Get Up and Dance) but I had a great time at the concert and now love Dr. Hook's music. Although I'm too young to be a typical listener to this music (I'm 19), there were more young people at this concert than there were people who were around when this music was first released. That proves that this band has some serious staying power.

I am a big fan of Hook. Granted that I am 30 years old my parents listened to them and it grew on me. Their music, lyrics (help from Shel Silverstein) and humor rank them in my heart as one of the best all around bands in popular music. I wish that a reunion would be in the works. By the way this album compiles all the great tracks Hook made (72-80). These songs are classics and are ageless! Listen to this alubum with your loved one. It is very romantic and funny. If you want to go deeper into Hook purchase their 1st LP and Sloppy Seconds. That's how I got hooked! While listening to them keep your ear open for lyrics and music. The two alway intertwine in all of their songs. I hope you will enjoy this album and the others. Thank You for your time!

Well in beginning i bought this album for the songs: Cover Of The Rolling Stone & When You're In Love With A Beautiful Woman. But as soon i popped in this disc i just fell in love with whole thing. the and more to title of the album impiles the fact that there are few songs tacked on for your listening pleasure, i must say my favorite tracks are: I Could'nt Believe, A Little Bit More. Sexy Eyes & Sharing The Night Together( Are Definitely Disco Influnced) but still likeable. Radio should've may the top ten along with Cover Of The Rolling Stone, Years From Now. Brings tears almost, it's tender ballad. This album is one that you'll want to dance to because there are slow and fast tunes. when i listening to this album i think of palm trees and the sun.

4.0 out of 5 stars Versatile band; Something for everyone, April 20, 2001
By A Customer

I'd forgotten all about Dr. Hook, to tell the truth, until looking around for something by another 70's band. Then I saw this and started reading the track titles, and so many memories just started coming back. The band shows something for everyone. For the raunchier side, with somewhat sarcastic songs like "Cover of Rolling Stone," what-was-I-thinking songs like "Only Sixteen," lush love songs like "A Little Bit More," and my favorite, the funky disco feeling tracks like "Sexy Eyes," and "When You're In Love With A Beautiful Woman." And the best part is, these songs all seem true-to-heart. You feel like you could actually get somewhere with a girl by singing "Sharing The Night Together.' A very pleasant musical treat. Spend 40 minutes going back to the 70s with this CD. You won't regret it, and may also wind up hoping your picture's on the cover of Rolling Stone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dr. Hook Gr. Hits (and more), February 9, 2002

I had forgot just how good Dr. Hook was! I couldn't wait to share it with my teenagers, who love all my old music. To my surprise, the kids didn't know any of Dr.Hooks music and it dawned on me Dr. Hook is not played on the oldies stations or anywhere on the radio for that matter. This CD is chock full of all their wonderful hits from the 70's and instantly became one of my favorites. The only thing better than the music was the service. I bought this cd 'used' for a great low price and the transaction gets a '5 Stars rating' as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gave only THIS cd as holiday gifts this year! Times TEN+!, January 3, 2001

I, too, must rate this Hook VALENTINE among the top THREE cds I own, Tina's Nutbush City being another. DO play this with your loved ones. Repeatedly! The Shel Silverstein lyrics' thang is SUCH a mighty fine BONUS. Tracks 13 and 15 ("Years From Now" and "Sweetest of All") make for absolutely perfect waltzing as well as Argentine tangoing, and "A Couple More Years" and "Sylvia's Mother" are unequaled. These men ROCK! Softly. I find their music to now be a passion of mine --- and I am 53 and didn't really 'discover' them until someone mentioned the Shel / Hook lyrics' connection to me about six months ago -- after raising up to adulthood three sons on Silverstein lyrics! I know you WILL like this one.

Dear Doctor Hook- Where are you?

This CD is full of beautifully upbeat romantic tunes- with a little humor thrown in for good measure.

Doctor Hook and his band don't LOOK anything like they sound. A lead singer in jeans and an eyepatch, backup band that has long scraggly hair- what a wacky combination.

Doctor Hook- come back. We need you! You are the perfect example of NOT judging a book by it's cover.

Wonderful music here!

Sometimes you have to wonder why some bands get to certain levels and others don't. The music here is very well written and my guess is that there were other reason's that Dr. Hook didn't achieve a higher level in the music world besides lack of super talent.

While it might be hard to recommend this album to the twenty year olds with modern ears for music, if you like bands like CCR and 70's music (the kind with some folk tale quality to it) and you haven't sampled this yet, you'll probably be surprised you missed it.

I give this a strong recommendation to those that fit the category.
