Editorial Reviews

With a feel-good jug band sound, DR. HOOK AND THE MEDICINE SHOW put on concerts filled with humor and down home rock 'n' roll. The band was always a crowd-pleaser and this performance, which includes their signature song "The Cover of the Rolling Stone," features the group at its absolute best. Fans will not be disappointed.

If there is a more bizarre and entertaining live show DVD of any musical act anywhere please keep it to yourself.

They work very well together and obviously don't give a darn about what anybody thinks when they are into it.

As a fan of the group this is a must buy. Let's just say the guys were having fun. I think they should buy a copy as well because there is no way they remember it all. It shows a fun time with some crazy guys. As a fan of the music, this could be two fold. The crazier songs that the group put out are represented superbly but if you are looking for the beautiful melodic voice of Dennis and the guys singing some of there great ballads then you will be left wanting as they cut short the heartfelt Silvia's Mother and don't get to most the rest either because of how early this was filmed in their career or because the party did not call for it. Lastly, this was definitely filmed for Europe don't think it would have been shown in the States.

An amazing writer named Will Scheff wrote a review of this DVD that is hilarious and profound...it says more than I ever could, and better too.

Go to WillScheff dot com and look for the article 'We Never Have to Be Alone - Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show, Live 1974.' It's an amazing read.

After reading this you'll know whether you want this DVD or not. I sure do!

the most entertaining footage of any band i have come across. hopefully most of you know that the band was shel silverstein's performance pimps....decked out, ready to boogie, and raucous in their jubilee. the unpretentiousness makes you want to dismiss any band who took/takes themselves and their music too seriously...one of those "careful, you may pee your pants from laughter" sort of deal..so keep a diaper handy.....shel's pimps....glorious!!!!!

It really is this simple. They are a throwback to when music was fun and not so pre-packaged. It was a thrill to see them as it is a thrill to watch them again. What is more thrilling is listening to them and letting yourself go with them. No pretensions; just great music and a great time.

Gawker wrote a piece called 'Dennis, We've Been Crying Too Much": Dr. Hook and the Untold Story of the Best Rock Movie Ever Made'. They were correct, and not in some ironic way, either. They said, and were *astonishingly correct in saying* that it was "some of the most unpretentious music ever made," and delivered the most intense concentration of "life-affirming joy" of any rock movie ever. They summed it up saying that it is "what playing music onstage should, at its very highest point, feel like." I read this and bought the DVD. It took two months to get here, but they were right. For once Gawker was right and thank god. What a beautiful reminder this movie is of what making music feels like with *your band*, with people you know and love and are *with* in that intimate way unique to bands.
