5.0 out of 5 stars This Game is Great... If we were on Mars
Yeah sure, this game is great! The controls move slower than a no legged turtle, you can't attack anything, and even if you wanted to, you had to use a stick. The graphics look like a elephant's sick day, and the game is hard. Yeah this is surely worth it. This game is so bad, that it's good. That's why Im giving it 5 stars!

1.0 out of 5 stars A Strange Case Indeed...
For the love of all that is holy, this game is horrible. Sure, the concept is interesting; playing as Jekyll and then turning into Hyde once a "forced" transformation occurs. But why does an entire town of pink, frilly women, some random jack@$$ with an endless supply of bombs, and everything else in existence want Jekyll dead?! The game's virtually impossible, the music and graphics are horrible and redundant, and if you do beat the game, you get nothing for it.

I might've thought about this game way too much, but that's what happens when you keep dying over and over again. And for what? Nothing.

1.0 out of 5 stars They aren't lying when they say it's that bad, November 29, 2011
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde NES Game (Video Game)
SomethingAwful gave this game a score of -37. James Rolfe, a.k.a. the Angry Video Game Nerd, considers this to be one of the worst games he's ever played. The NES adaption of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is notorious for being a subject of derision amongst video gamers, and after I've had the misfortune of playing this, it's easy to see why.

The premise of this game is for Dr. Jekyll to walk over towards the chapel for his wedding. Sounds interesting, right? Unfortunately, the townspeople are all against it for some reason, and they do what it takes to prevent him from making it over there. Whether it would be the boys throwing rocks, the dogs let out to attack, or the people that just plant bombs in his path, it must be serious if they don't want Jekyll to get married. Anyways, the character of Dr. Jekyll is a joke. The jump cycle is slow and doesn't reach very high, which means that he can only dodge so much until he gets hurt. He's also given a cane as a weapon, but that is useless at best. He can attack with it, but it inflicts no damage. This means that he's only useful for dodging as much stuff as he can despite his sluggish control. When he gets hit, not only does his life meter go down, but he also has a stress meter, and when that gets maxed out, he then becomes Mr. Hyde.

The Hyde portion is only marginally better than the Jekyll portion. Well, you do have a weapon that actually works, the "psycho-wave", which is used by holding Up on the D-pad and the B button. Hyde's character will automatically walk through the stage, and he starts off where Jekyll started off, but in this case, the stage scrolls left as opposed to right with Jekyll. Well, the weapon you do have is a joke; it just shoots diagonally downward and then ricochet back in a wavelength format towards you. What's wrong with it being straight forward? Then again, it probably wouldn't be called the "psycho-wave" for nothing. While you're killing enemies with your weapon to relieve the stress meter in order to go back as Jekyll, not only do you have to make sure that your health isn't depleted, but you have to do what it takes to prevent yourself from reaching the area where Jekyll has transformed into Hyde. If it is reached, lightning will strike, killing Mr. Hyde and giving us the dreaded "Game Over" screen.

This game is unplayable at best. Bad controls and confusing game play are the major detractors for this game, and it seems like you're not supposed to actually enjoy the part of the game that actually feels like a video game (the Mr. Hyde role). It's as awful as everybody makes it out to be; the only fun I could see somebody having with this game is if they took a hammer and struck it to the cartridge multiple times.

1.0 out of 5 stars One of the worst of all time, April 18, 2011
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde NES Game (Video Game)
Okay....Lemme just simply say this: You CAN'T WIN. On top of that, the rules just don't make too much sense.

Why can't I kill anyone, especially since I totally NEED TO?
Why am I moving back after turning into Hyde, who happens to be extremely powerful compared to Dr. Jekyll?
Why do I die when becoming Hyde?
Why am I dying from everybody, anyway? Do they hold some sort of idiotic grudge against me for no particular reason?
Why is this game so broken (In-game)?!

These are the questions you'd often ask yourself when playing this. But of course, there's no answer to even one of them. Due to these very, very, VERY messy flaws, this is one of the worst games you'd ever play. PLEASE don't buy it, whatever you do.

1.0 out of 5 stars DON'T BUY THIS GAME!, August 28, 2009
This review is from: Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde NES Game (Video Game)
This game is terrible: you move slowly you jump low, PEOPLE HURT YOU, it's too easy to die, and the only weapon you get in the game doesn't work. Also, when you turn into Mr. Hyde, the enemies are too strong to defeat. Don't buy this game even if it's under a dollar. That's how bad it is. Don't waste your money on this piece of crap.

I purchased this game for my fiance. It was the only NES game I could find that had a wedding theme. Jykell/Hyde has to get to his wedding without harm. The game play isn't great--boring, not a game that really leaves an impression, but I would recommend it for a wedding/engagement gag gift. He got a kick out of it.
