Forget what you heard about sugar-free lollipops, these taste GREAT.

I conclude that Dr. John's has a lot of nerve to call their candies "Simply Xylitol" when nothing could be farther from the truth.

My three-year-old loves these lollipops, and the dentist recommended them, so I don't feel guilty giving him this yummy treat.

Ok you might not get cavities but you'll definitely get some cancer causing chemicals in your body by sucking on the titanium dioxide, red 40, yellow and blue chemicals they colored it with. How hard is it to make a healthy product with all natural ingredients. Not that hard... just color the candies with natural dyes. Would never buy a product that claims it's healthy or "natural" and then adds unhealthy ingredients in with the ONE healthy one. I would just get XyliChew or Spry gum instead. There's just xylitol and 2 other natural ingredients in those and is waaay healthier for your teeth AND body than this stuff. Or if you want some really good organic lollipops with no chemicals in them get Yummy Earth hard candies or lollipops on here.

(ADDED DEC 2011) They finally added a natural version of these same Xylitol lollipopos since I posted this... get them here SimplyXylitol All Natural Assorted Fruit Lollipops in a 1 lb. bag

Have you every felt like the biggest jerk going through your child's Halloween Bag or Easter basket and taking out all the lollipops because your children simply don't need more sugar laying against their teeth. I have, and it didnt feel good. Suddenly, I'm like Santa Claus. Not that they eat lollipops all day-everyday; but if they did, it would only help their teeth, not rot them to nubs. Forget what you heard about sugar-free lollipops, these taste GREAT. And the fact that they contain Xylitol which actually strengthens their teeth, how could you not buy these for your kids. Sure they are a little expensive in comparison to the sugar on a stick that we're used to, but they are worth every cent. Note: These were initially recommended to me by my Pediatric Dentist. He keeps a bowl of them in his office.

I have very pleased with these lollipops. My 3 year old son loves them. The only thing I wish was that it didn't have any artificial flavors in it. I wish they were flavored with fruit flavors instead.

I would be very careful about products that contain polyglycitol, which has a much higher glycemic index rating (of 39 versus 13 for xylitol): I use the latter, but I won't touch a product w/ the former. I know that polyglycitol is approved for use in the USA, but then so is high fructose corn syrup, so you'll never get me to believe that the FDA gives a hoot about the health of American consumers.

I won't buy this candy any longer, and I would recommend that everyone do some research into the differences among sugar alcohols (xylitol erythritol, polyglycitol, maltitol, sorbitol, etc.): I don't think that they are all created equal. I conclude that Dr. John's has a lot of nerve to call their candies "Simply Xylitol" when nothing could be farther from the truth. Profits over people once more...

Xylitol is a sugar alcohol and a sugar substitute that's been getting a lot of attention in the dental field because it may actually slow down the bacteria that cause plaque and eventually tooth decay. If you or your child like hard candies and lollipops, this is a great product. However, like everything else, moderation is key. Look up xylitol overdoes on the web and you will find this warning.
"Overdoses of xylitol may cause serious side effects such as stomach discomfort, diarrhea, oral erosive eczema or even acute renal failure "

Research indicates that consuming xylitol is an important part of maintaining healthy teeth and gums.
My children enjoyed having lollipops twice a day, I enjoyed not having to remind them to take their xylitol.
The red tastes like cherry, orange like orange, purple was grape, green was lime and I never got to taste the blue...
The only annoying part was picking up the little sticks that my younger daughter kept leaving out. Not a fault of the product, just a warning that these may need a bit of monitoring.
