4.0 out of 5 stars Like having a horse expert in your pocket May 3, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
This book is follow up to Dr. MIKE'S HORSEMANSHIP GROUND STEPS TO SUCCESS. It takes the rider through the basic steps of becoming more tuned with the horse through body and rein awareness and position. The pointers are excellent daily reminders for better preparing yourself and the horse for the ride and how to communicate your wishes during the ride.

I found the steps easy to understand and the presentation clear and simple. The diagrams seemed a bit fuzzy on my Fire, but since they're meant only to clarify the basic steps through which a rider leads his horse during various exercises, it wasn't that big of a deal. As with Ground Steps, I think the manual would be even more useful with a Table of Contents. A rider might choose to focus on a specific exercise on a particular day and the ToC would facilitate navigating through the catalogue of exercises.

I highly recommend riders first pick up a copy of Ground Steps before tackling Responsive Riding. This manual becomes much more powerful once those foundational step in that book are mastered.

Another valuable contribution by a master rider and a necessary resource for the beginning and intermediate rider.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Great Book! June 16, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
A great follow-up book to Dr. Mike's Ground Steps for Success. This book moves beyond ground work and into the saddle, focusing on increasing communication between horse and rider. Attention is paid to subjects such as seat position, rein management, and proper use of the legs. Dr. Mike gives helpful exercises and diagrams throughout the book, making them easy to follow. He also explains how each exercise helps the rider gain control and increase communication with the horse. This book is incredibly useful for relatively new riders, but I am sure that horsemen and women of all experience levels would find it to be of value. I strongly recommend this book and hope to see more from Dr. Mike of Dun Movin Ranch soon!
