5.0 out of 5 stars Is There a Doctor in the House?
Being new to the Dr. Mario world, I rented this game expecting only a simple Tetris game. But I didn`t. I found a mind challenging, crazily addictive game of strategy, thought, and lots and lots of patience. The many pros of it include great tracks, different and out of this world modes, and great colors and graphics for a game of this type. For any lover of Tetris with a...

For any lover of Tetris with a lot of time to spend, this game is for you! Some cons include the simple animation of the characters. ( But I bet they did that on purpose) Any action lover and fast paced games will find this game to be a bit boring. But, for a person playing this for only the first time, I say... DR. MARIO FOREVER!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars A classic NES game is remade for the N64, August 28, 2001

When I first heard this game was being remade and re-released for N64, I was very excited. I've always loved this game and remember playing many times with my friends when I was younger on NES. And when I heard it was going to be inexpensive, it was a no-brainer as to whether or not to buy it. The game, however, is not without its faults. But lets start with the good. In Dr. Mario 64, there are many new ways to play the classic Dr. Mario. You can play in story mode, where you are pitted against a series of computer-controlled opponents (with an entertaining and simple story interspersed between battles). You can also play Vs. mode, which is just you against the computer. Or you can play Score Attack, where you try to get as many points as you can in 3 minutes. And, yes, you can still play classic Dr. Mario, just like it was on NES. Also, a two and four player mode has been included in this game. Playing Dr. Mario 64 with three other people is a really fun experience, and I am glad Nintendo included this in the remake. Now for the bad. The main reason this game didnt get 5 stars is because it gets a little boring and repetitive after playing for awhile. Also, in four-player mode, the play screens for each of the players are a little small, but there is little Nintendo could have done to change these. In conclusion, Dr. Mario is a great remake of a great game. I would recommend it to fans of puzzle games or even fans of video games in general.

4.0 out of 5 stars I Miss my wife and I need my sleep, May 27, 2001

About two months ago I was in the toy store with my two sons. My seven year old Nintendo fanatic told me. "Dad Lets get Dr. Mario for mommy's birthday." Being a reasonable and normal dad I said "yea right, your mother wants this game." Much to my shock after I gave my wife her present she told me he was telling me the truth! Her sister had the game and she played it a ton. So when mother's day came around I picked it up for her. It is a cute game, basically a tetris variant is its most basic form (which is what she plays)and she loved it. It is challenge and actually involves a bit of subtle stratagy which makes it more worthwhile in my eyes, particularly in head to head compatition. The only problem is when I get home from work just before midnight I invariably find my wife in front of the set playing. Being a good husband I sit and play with her an hour or so. She loves it and the game is fun, but I NEED MY SLEEP and she is constantly playing it. It's worse than me with colonization! Nintendo you've created a monster, ok she's a REALLY CUTE monster.

5.0 out of 5 stars From 6 A.M to Midnight - A Great Game, October 14, 2001

When I first saw it I wasn't too excited, but after I rented it, it changed my opinion completely. The rest of my family loved it too. Plenty of modes, characters, and fun are in this game. It's a lot better than the first Dr. Mario because it has better graphics and the characters beat each other up when you perform a combo. Overall, It's a great puzzle.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Game From My Childhood, April 23, 2001

This is a game that i had for my Nes when i was a child and i couln't stop playing it. Now Nintendo have released it on the 64 and its a game that i had to have. The object of the game in Dr Mario is the same as the other edition where you have to remove coloured bugs/germs by placing the appropriate coloured pill on top. You ahve to place 3 of the same colour pill on the bug to eliminate it. Once all of the bugs ahve been eliminated then you can progress to the next level. This game also has a 4 player multiplayer mode which adds more excitment ot the game as loads of my friends like this game

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally, it returns!, December 27, 2001

This review is from: Dr. Mario 64 (Game Cartridge)
I am so glad that there is a Dr Mario 64. I had the game on my old Nintendo system until it died, and I had almost forgot about it until now. It is fairly similiar to the old version, but of course the object is the same. They have updated music (very cool), and you can choose from a bunch of characters to use.

There is also different gameplays like flash (get the flashing viruses), score attack (get the highest score in three minutes, and a new story mode, which is cool. The multiplayer is awesome!

Overall this game is an excellent remake, and even if you didnt have the old version, try this game out anyways.

This game is a tad hard for me, but my wife is addicted to it. Be careful because Dr. Mario prescribes a drug that some people become addicted to.

This game has a few minor flaws, but in the end it is pure puzzle perfection. The gameplay is so enjoyable it's almost impossible to put it down without at least one hour worth of play time. The multiplayer is a blast, the only problem is that the four player mode scrunches up the screen- making it difficult to see. I personally find the music quite catchy, but the graphics are nothing special. Also, the game does not really add much to the basic Dr. Mario formula of NES days. Still, this puzzle game is so addictive that it would be silly not to try it.

5.0 out of 5 stars yes, it's as addicting as the original, April 11, 2001

This review is from: Dr. Mario 64 (Game Cartridge)
Nintendo made two important smart decisions with the release of this game: 1) a low suggested retail price and 2) they didn't change hardly anything from the original. In fact if you play the classic one player game, the only thing that has changed is slightly improved graphics and better sound quality. However, the layout and gameplay is the same and just as fun. There are some really fun new options for game play such as flash mode and story mode, and although I haven't had a chance to try it yet, the multi-player looks like a lot of fun as well.
