5.0 out of 5 stars These shoes may be the last pair you'll ever need to buy...
I bought my first pair of Doc's when I was 16. After joining the military, traveling to nearly 50 different countries, in sleet, snow, and boiling deserts in the Middle East, this same pair of shoes still look great today, 20 years later, albeit scuffed up.

Indeed, last week I had a casual business meeting; with a little spit, elbow grease, and an old towel...

3.0 out of 5 stars Be careful about sizing
If you wear a half size, they blithely tell you just to buy the next whole size up. That's a great idea . . . if you want a pair of shoes that doesn't fit. That's what I did, and ended up with a pair of too-loose shoes that were always uncomfortable. Then I tried the next whole size down. Too tight! Memo to Dr Martens - half sizes exist for a reason!

Too bad, I...

I bought my first pair of Doc's when I was 16. After joining the military, traveling to nearly 50 different countries, in sleet, snow, and boiling deserts in the Middle East, this same pair of shoes still look great today, 20 years later, albeit scuffed up.

Indeed, last week I had a casual business meeting; with a little spit, elbow grease, and an old towel I used to dry off my dog, they cleaned up quite nicely and worked well with my Docker khaki's.

They're exceptionally comfortable, timeless, and well worth the price. How many 20yr old pair of shoes do you own? That's like what, $5/yr?

The style colour conscience among you might want to consider another pair -- in black. They're that good, like an old friend, reliable, stylish, and right there with you to conquer life's many challenges.

I highly recommend them.

Too bad, I really like these shoes otherwise.

4.0 out of 5 stars Subtle differences, February 6, 2007

In the pictures there are several versions of this shoe that all look alike, THEY'RE NOT! These shoes are the "orriginal" version. They do not have the leather insoles, rather they are removable and fabric. They have the less agressive soles with long transverse groves ( the more common sole for this shoe is more of a traditional knobby pattern and is a little bit better for mud) They also have a slightly higher back than the later version sold in stores everywhere in the 90's. The higher back is a bit uncomfortable at first as it can dig into the back of your ankle. The toe is also a bit bigger than the common version. The shoes are of excellent quality, just not exactly what I thought I was buying.

4.0 out of 5 stars Say 'I'm punk rock but I hold down a real job' with these, January 8, 2005
I've owned pairs of these shoes for about a decade. I can wear them to work with just about any outfit except a boring business suit, and I can wear them around the house. Throw in a pair of Dr. Scholl's Air-Cushion insoles and your feet will be in heaven. They are a bit heavy compared to other shoes, but they are well made, waterproof and can withstand a heck of a lot of abuse.

3.0 out of 5 stars Watch out: fit not true to size, July 17, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This was supposed to be my second pair of Dr. Martens. I was quite disappointed when they arrived, I ordered the same size (7 UK) of my previous pair for this pair and they turned out to be smaller!

If you're ordering this model, look at the size conversion chart and go one size up of your actual size.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this shoe!, July 10, 2008

I have begun standing while working at my computer. As such, I needed something much better than tennis shoes to support my feet and knees. I read quite a few favorable reviews on this shoe and decided it was worth a try. The break-in period mentioned by reviewers is real. It took a good solid week of wearing before they started feeling "broke in."

Now that they are broken in, they are my favorite pair of shoes and probably the single finest pair of shoes I have ever purchased. They look great, I can walk miles in them in perfect comfort, my feet don't seem to sweat in them as much as other shoes (not sure why that is?), and my knees are much happier with me after a long day of standing at my desk. In 2-3 years when I've worn this shoe out, I won't even hesitate to click "buy it now" on a new pair.

5.0 out of 5 stars doc martens, January 8, 2008

I purchased these doc martens for a Christmas present for my son. The service was excellent and the shoes are great. The quality is excellent as is the comfort. I would not hesitate to purchase again from amazon.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good shoe for decades, January 11, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This shoe has been a favorite for decades, with this pair being my eighth. They are comfortable, last forever, look good with almost anything, and have a non-style stylishness that is ageless. Unless Dr. Martens completely stops making these, I will be wearing them for decades to come.
