Benefits of Goodyear Welt
Goodyear welt is a shoe construction in which the upper and sole of the shoe are stitched together for greater durability rather than glued. The resulting seam is visible and runs around the outside of the shoe, where the upper and outsole meet.
About Dr. Martens
![]() |
By 1959 the two decided that they needed a company to produce and distribute the shoes, then called Dr. Maertens, in other parts of the world. At first, many manufacturers rejected the concept of an air cushioned sole as a short-lived gimmick. However, the R. Griggs Group, located in the village of Wollaston in England, decided to go along with the idea by creating the first work boot with the revolutionary sole. On the first of April 1960, the first cherry red eight-eyelet work boot was produced and named 1460 (1/4/60). To sell the brand name better in England, the name was anglicized to Dr. Martens. The range was branded AirWair and the rest is history.

Seem solid, but might want to buy inserts,
By
This review is from: Dr. Martens Men's 1914 Boot (Shoes)
Just got my pair of size 9's UK (for size 10-10.5 wide US feet), and I'm pretty well satisfied with the size and width of these boots.My only complaint is that the boots have heel pads which are simply glued to the inside of the boot, and are not covered by any kind of insert or liner. The glue isn't particularly secure on one of them, and even the other which is more secure will eventually work loose, since there's nothing to stop friction from slowly prying it up (it's easy to catch up on the underside of the pads). I figure I'll buy a thin insert and reglue them when the time comes, but this aspect of their design is a little disappointing.

Disappointing,
This review is from: Dr. Martens Men's 1914 Boot (Apparel)
I was excited to order these beautiful Doc Martens boots thinking that this old established brand was making a fine product. Instead, I paid $120 for boots with unfinished, non-lined leather that rubs off on my socks, a small unfinished, non-lined tongue that slips to one side and also rubs off on my socks, and though adequately sized, lack padding and hurt my toes and are simply not comfortable. They certainly look and sound good in your marketing material, though.

Nice boots for people with smaller calves,
By *In case you dont know, Dr. Martens shoe sizing runs a little big. If you wear between a 12.5 and 13, go for the UK 11. This is contrary to what is suggested by Amazon (half sizes use next higher size). Width was generous (I have a wide foot, and these seemed to fit fine.) *Calf fit may be a problem. I have 19.5" calves, and there was no way I could get the boots closed. As a result I had to return the boots. :( *These boots are not the UK made docs. Some people like the UK ones better, others don't care. *Remember boots take some breaking in time- This is true of all boots. They should not be uncomfortable when you first get them, but they will feel better after a couple months of wear. 2115|R2VJ2TSGFRJ5E5;2115|RX1VOFJB4J479;2115|R39M857UL6PKIR;
