Dr. Martens is the stuff of legends. It all began near Munich, Germany in 1945 when Dr. Klaus Maertens injured his foot in a skiing accident in the Bavarian Alps. To make walking easier during the healing process, he designed a shoe with an air-cushioned sole. Using old rubber tires, he constructed soles that had air trapped within closed compartments. He showed his prototype to his engineer/inventor friend, Dr. Herbert Funck, and together they decided to develop and produce the shoes. Not only did the shoe solve the doctor's immediate problem, but it also started to sell well in Germany. By 1959 the two decided that they needed a company to produce and distribute the shoes, then called Dr. Maertens, in other parts of the world. At first, many manufacturers rejected the concept of an air cushioned sole as a short-lived gimmick. However, the R. Griggs Group, located in the village of Wollaston in England, decided to go along with the idea by creating the first work boot with the revolutionary sole. On the first of April 1960, the first cherry red eight-eyelet work boot was produced and named 1460. To sell the brand name better in England, the name was anglicized to Dr. Martens. The range was branded AirWair and the rest is history.

Good shoes but they aren't steel toe. I thought steel cap and steel toe were the same so I don't want anyone else to make that mistake.

I didn't know Doc Martens made work boots so I was surprised when I saw them at the store. They didn't have my size so I decided to order online. My size 12W fit perfectly and immediately felt broke in. I've worn Caterpillar, Timberland Pro, Sketchers and probably others and while CAT and Timberland were really good, I like these Doc Martens best.

Poor quality at a high price. I exchange my first pair beacause of a lump on the insole and the second pair had the same issue.

Very short life for a work boot in my opinion. They lasted 9 months before holes started to develop in front of the seam near the toes on both sides and both shoes. I'd been wondering why my toes were feeling irritated even though I had treated the shoes to make sure they were oil resistant. Those holes totally defeated that. I'd bought these to replace a pair of Texas Steer work boots that lasted 3.5 years. I'll be buying those to replace these. No more over priced Dr Martens for me.

I have been wearing Doc's since the early 90's when i was going through my teenage grunge faze. I loved them then and still do to this day. They are by far the most comfortable boot I have ever worn. I haul fuel and these stand up to the daily abuse I put them through. From spilling gas and diesel on them and dealing with the weather they are there day in and day out. Comfort and durability at its finest.

    Durability/ Material Quality
Dr. Martens are an extremely durable boot. The last pair I owned lasted close to 3 years. That being said the quality is excellent. The sole of the boot stood up to working on foot all day in a rugged environment. Towards the end of their time the sole started to wear down and crack, but that was expected after 3 years of use. The leather got scratched and scarred a few times from the work environment, but nothing ever tore. You can expect to replace the shoelaces at some point because mine tended to fray and fall apart. Other than this, the boot stood up to tough times and exactly what it's supposed to do.

    Fit/ Comfort
This boot was comfortable to wear around on a day-to-day basis. Working 10 straight hours on my feet was no problem for my feet. The boots were snug, yet gave enough room for your foot to breathe. Sizing is consistent and true to their said height, width, and length online. Dr. Martens are a heavy boot, which can be annoying sometimes, but this comes with durability. Overall the boot is comfortable and fits very well to the foot.

    Value/ Brand
Dr. Martens are a great buy. You will defiantly get your moneys worth out of this product. They are a well-known brand that lives up to their standard with every boot made. Big name brands often are more expensive than competitors, but this boot is worth it. You are paying for the quality product you get.

    Overall Review
I would buy these boots again because of how well made they are. This is why I rated this product a 4.5/5. If you are looking for a boot to last a long time, be comfortable, and look stylish, then this is the boot you want. I love my pair of Dr. Martens and would recommend them to anyone.

This is the third pair I've owned over the last 10 years. I've only replaced the other two pair because the soles eventually were worn smooth and they were dangerous on snow and ice.

I'll keep buying them because they look good, are comfortable, and are very well built.

This is my second pair, my first pair lasted over 3 years and are still going execept they make a noise when I walk. Amazon isn't very clear with their size selection. Only help I can offer is remeber UK is one size smaller than US male. Good luck!
