Product Description

Dr. Martens is the stuff of legends. It all began near Munich, Germany in 1945 when Dr. Klaus Maertens injured his foot in a skiing accident in the Bavarian Alps. To make walking easier during the healing process, he designed a shoe with an air-cushioned sole. Using old rubber tires, he constructed soles that had air trapped within closed compartments. He showed his prototype to his engineer/inventor friend, Dr. Herbert Funck, and together they decided to develop and produce the shoes. Not only did the shoe solve the doctor's immediate problem, but it also started to sell well in Germany. By 1959 the two decided that they needed a company to produce and distribute the shoes, then called Dr. Maertens, in other parts of the world. At first, many manufacturers rejected the concept of an air cushioned sole as a short-lived gimmick. However, the R. Griggs Group, located in the village of Wollaston in England, decided to go along with the idea by creating the first work boot with the revolutionary sole. On the first of April 1960, the first cherry red eight-eyelet work boot was produced and named 1460. To sell the brand name better in England, the name was anglicized to Dr. Martens. The range was branded AirWair and the rest is history.

Our boots and shoes have become icons, recognized worldwide for their uncompromising looks, durability and comfort. These styles embody all that is true and unique to Dr. Martens.

Ive had these for a little over a week and im very happy wiith them.

The break in time for these just took a few hours. Been wearing them every day since they arrived. Leather is stiff but formed to my feet well. I have wide feet and there is enough room in these without any constriciton. Great color in the leather, the leather distress in a really neat way. I applied BareBones work wear boot wax to protectect and water proof from the elements. I work in the Seirra Nevadas of California at a Ski Resort, I am awlays going between rock, dirt, water and gravel. These hold up well with the beating they get!

The only thing i would recommed is to replace the shoe laces. They are too short to lace up to the top and they are a little short to tie securely if you don't lace to the top. I replaced them with 72in laces and they lace all the way up with a fair amount to tie and/or wrap around.

Buy the boots. Dr. Martens are a solid choice all around.

These are a well constructed and comfortable pair of boots for a reasonable price. The Greenland Brown lightens along the creases as you wear them for a custom worn look. They stretch out a little as well as you wear them so upon recommendations from people on other sites I bought a US 8 (UK 7), although I typically wear US 9 (*but note: I CAN fit an 8.5), and they fit perfectly. I also bought the Dr. Marten balsam to protect them from the snow here in Vermont. I'm hoping they last for a long time!

I haven't gotten a pair of Doc Martens since I was in high school almost 20 years ago. After searching around for a pair of good, everyday boots that are stylish and comfortable I didn't think I'd be coming back to Docs. They yellow stich signature 1460 seemed a little juvenile at my age but these hit the mark. They are a bit narrower on the ankle so you could roll those tapered pants up, to showcase the boot. There is an earthtone type quality to the leather as it is "agriculturally" inspired. I just hope they last. People have been down on Docs quality since they're made in China now, but what garment or shoe isn't made in China, Thailand, Vietnam, Bangladesh, India, etc. these days? Get up off your pro UK high horse and be thankful they didn't go out of business. Just because things are made elsewhere doesn't mean that there is a sacrifice in quality. At least not in all cases. Oh year, and go a 1/2 size down (if you are a US 9.5 go with the UK 8/US 9). Trust...it will save you a lot of trouble in the end.

I just got my boots in about a week ago. They are awesome boots. I did what the others were saying and ordered a half size down from my normal size of 9.5 and it fits perfectly. It's about the same fit you'd have with the Clark's desert boots. And for those of you who have a wide foot like mine there is no problems with a wider foot. The leather is still a bit stiff on the backside and they aren't the easiest boots to put on but everything else with them checks out. Also the laces are thin and are just long enough for me to double knot them.

Size runs a bit bigger as others mentioned so if you where 10.5 US the 9 in UK is perfect.

The first thing you'll take notice of when you unbox these boots is that they're a noticeably darker brown than the photo here on Amazon makes them look. They have a dark brown waxy coating that wears to a light, barely reddish tan at the creases, and I'm sure anywhere else that rubs frequently. The Goodyear welt on my pair is solid, and it took me a second look to find the line where one end overlaps the other. The welt stitching looks great, without any loose stitches. The leather is a hearty, thick hide that's pretty stiff, but I have no doubt that it'll start to soften as I break these boots in. Luckily, the Air Wair soles make them so comfortable, that I don't think I'll have any problems wearing them day after day until they're good and broken in, and the finish is really going to look worn and full of character by the time that happens, so I'm pretty excited about that.

They're absolutely Docs, but with the lower-profile sole, they have a separate identity from the classic 1460s. It's a little harder to see the lug sole when you're wearing them, so they have a bit of a hardsole look to them. Like many others have stated, you'll probably want to get a longer, stronger pair of laces. The flat, brown, waxed laces that come with these would be fine on a lower-profile brogue boot, a dressier cap toe, or a desert boot, but they don't have the solid feeling that should accompany these Leo boots. I'll probably find a longer pair of leather laces to match the boots' finish. The included laces aren't long enough to lace to the top, and barely stick out of the second to top pair of eyelets when you're loosening the boots up to take them off or put them on.

There's also a felt-like lining inside that you can't really see from the photos.
