It is my first pair of this style, but they fit perfect, are comfortable out of the box and I love them!

Product Description

These Unisex 14 Eye Boots in Black Smooth from Dr. Martens are so comfortable right out of the box you'll want to find excuses to wear them for every occasion. The quality leather shaft (pre-inspected for scars before construction) measures nearly 11 inches tall. Bright yellow contrast stitching along the edge of the soles tells you these aren't your grandpa's work boots.

Benefits of Goodyear Welt
Goodyear welt is a shoe construction in which the upper and sole of the shoe are stitched together for greater durability rather than glued. The resulting seam is visible and runs around the outside of the shoe, where the upper and outsole meet.

About Dr. Martens

Dr. Martens is the stuff of legends. It all began near Munich, Germany in 1945 when Dr. Klaus Maertens injured his foot in a skiing accident in the Bavarian Alps. To make walking easier during the healing process, he designed a shoe with an air-cushioned sole. Using old rubber tires, he constructed soles that had air trapped within closed compartments. He showed his prototype to his engineer/inventor friend, Dr. Herbert Funck, and together they decided to develop and produce the shoes. Not only did the shoe solve the doctor’s immediate problem, but it also started to sell well in Germany.

By 1959 the two decided that they needed a company to produce and distribute the shoes, then called Dr. Maertens, in other parts of the world. At first, many manufacturers rejected the concept of an air cushioned sole as a short-lived gimmick. However, the R. Griggs Group, located in the village of Wollaston in England, decided to go along with the idea by creating the first work boot with the revolutionary sole. On the first of April 1960, the first cherry red eight-eyelet work boot was produced and named 1460 (1/4/60). To sell the brand name better in England, the name was anglicized to Dr. Martens. The range was branded AirWair and the rest is history.

Get a little anarchy from the UK in the Dr. Martens Boot 1914 W. Everything about this women's boot is created to the original specifications made famous by Dr. Martens boots: a 59 last, leather upper, welted construction, PVC sole, yellow stitching and an AirWair pull tab.

Just got my pair of size 9's UK (for size 10-10.5 wide US feet), and I'm pretty well satisfied with the size and width of these boots.

My only complaint is that the boots have heel pads which are simply glued to the inside of the boot, and are not covered by any kind of insert or liner. The glue isn't particularly secure on one of them, and even the other which is more secure will eventually work loose, since there's nothing to stop friction from slowly prying it up (it's easy to catch up on the underside of the pads). I figure I'll buy a thin insert and reglue them when the time comes, but this aspect of their design is a little disappointing.

These boots are nice- They look sharp (the color is really closer to Oxblood, not clown red as the picture might appear), and have a very comfortable sole. That said, there are some things to consider-

*In case you dont know, Dr. Martens shoe sizing runs a little big. If you wear between a 12.5 and 13, go for the UK 11. This is contrary to what is suggested by Amazon (half sizes use next higher size). Width was generous (I have a wide foot, and these seemed to fit fine.)

*Calf fit may be a problem. I have 19.5" calves, and there was no way I could get the boots closed. As a result I had to return the boots. :(

*These boots are not the UK made docs. Some people like the UK ones better, others don't care.

*Remember boots take some breaking in time- This is true of all boots. They should not be uncomfortable when you first get them, but they will feel better after a couple months of wear.

These are Dr. Martens model "1914" but are made in China, despite the product description I see which explicitly says "Made in England".

The model "Vintage 1914" is the one of this style made in England and is twice the price. In my experience the docs made in England last 8 years or more of moderate wear. The one from China last 1 year of moderate wear.

Consider spending 2x the money for 8x more boot.

I was excited to order these beautiful Doc Martens boots thinking that this old established brand was making a fine product. Instead, I paid $120 for boots with unfinished, non-lined leather that rubs off on my socks, a small unfinished, non-lined tongue that slips to one side and also rubs off on my socks, and though adequately sized, lack padding and hurt my toes and are simply not comfortable. They certainly look and sound good in your marketing material, though.

Took about a month to break them in (didn't wear them all the time), true to size & they should be snug to start because leather stretches over time & they are always good quality so they start out stiff. Only thing I don't like is that they're no longer made in the UK, my next ones will be from the line that still is (you can go on the doc website to see their different collections)

Regardless of the fact that they've been famously known as the footwear for 'Punks' and 'Skins', I've always wanted a pair (mainly for work... as I had been doing general labor work.) I was happy when I received them, and the size was correct, BUT! When I tried them on the inside footing was a bit too 'narrow' (as if they weren't actually modeled based around someone's foot,) the first thing that I noticed was the pain. The narrow stitching at the base of the tongue, left a horizontal line across the middle of my foot. I couldn't even take like two steps without experiencing a sharp, increasing ache in my foot.

I had sent Dr. Martens online store an email about the issue, figured that perhaps if I took them over to their branch in Seattle maybe they could adjust the tongue, unfortunately they had told me that they wouldn't be able to do that. Sadly enough they're now on there way back to Amazon.

My daughter loves these, I always wanted them as a punk/new wave kid of the 80's. So glad I can relive with nostalgia through my daughter, would definitely buy again from this buyer
