I purchased my first pair of Doc Martins back in 1997 and I am just now needing to replace them. Docs are the best investment in shoes because they truly last. These particular boots are great for anyone who wants a pair of boots they can wear in warmer weather because they are not very thick or padded with cloth like a lot of winter boots have.

They do take about a day or two to break them in, but once you do it is so worth it. Docs are the best shoes for people who suffer from foot problems, like myself. They are wide enough to fit comfortably, and the soles give support your arches need for a day on your feet.

After reading reveiws stating that these ran big I ordered down a size and ended up sending them back......I should have ordered my true size...., they were too tight!

Don't listen to the reveiws that say these run big....."They run true to size"!!!

The seller was awesome to work with and I reordered these in my regular size and I'm glad I did.

I had to buy these boots for a motorcycle class as I did not own any over the ankle shoes of any sorts that were required for safety reasons. After my purchase, I thought that I'd give them a go to really break them in for everyday wear. I've had them almost a month now. I really do like these boots. Some comments:

    - Break in was about five days of consistent wear.
    - The boot is much lighter than it looks, which surprised me greatly. I hate heavy shoes. I think these are lighter than my hiking shoes (mid-level ankle).
    - The were amazingly easy to clean. I bought the Dr. Marten's lanolin fat based treatment and it will bring out a bit of luster. However, I like Lincoln Wax for real shoe polishing.
    - I've read differing opinions on the quality of the construction, seems well made to me. I'm not a Dr. Marten aficionado, but well constructed.
    - Seems like they will wear well after a month of consistent wear.
    - I plan on hiking in these boots. They remind me a lot of my boots in the Army, except more comfortable. The soles are pretty comfy.

I'm an old guy, not a hipster (38) and this is my first pair of Dr. Marten's. They look great with jeans. They are comfortable for many occasions. I like these a lot more than I planned on. They are quality boots. Recommended.

What would make them a 5?
They might be at the end of the day. I will have to see how they wear over time. The tread seems like it will not hold up as it's not terribly deep. The sizing I wish came in half sizes, but I sized up and they are pretty comfortable.

Bought these in December 2011. It's now close to the end of November 2013. My first pair of docs were bought in 1995. My second pair in 1999. Third pair December 2009. I have been wearing docs for 18 years.

The original Brit versions were really nice, had superior quality, lasted forever and were comfortable. I took great pride in my British made docs. Things changed. Like a lot of other companies. Doc martens moved to china. The quality is not the same.

My most recent pair is 2 years old. They looked great out of the box. They were also the most painful shoes to break in I have ever owned. Perhaps it's the shape of my feet in these boots but I have rock hard calluses on the back of my heels from wearing these. Prior to forming those, get ready for a grueling break in period. Not days, or weeks but probably close to 1 month. I ordered the form fitting DM insoles for the boots, they helped some, but not a lot.

Recently, the sole on my right boot split down the center making an opening about an inch to two inches wide. Imagine a split that makes the sole half as thick. The next time it rains, I'll most likely have a wet foot. My first 2 pair were Brits and never did this. The Chinese sole feels more like plastic than rubber like the old air-wair soles. These Chinese still put the air-wair and bouncing soles tab on the back of the boot, which is great for pulling them on. But in terms of describing the sole they don't feel like walking on air and because of the material, the soles clank onto the ground as opposed to bounce.

The leather has held up pretty well, I've put them through a lot. With the DM wonder balsam, you can bring them back to life any time you apply that stuff.

I had just about walked-through my Timberlands when I spotted these. I'm a long-time Dr. Martens wearer, but hadn't had a pair in a few years, so I snagged these a few days ago. Just like I remembered them - comfortable and easy to wear. The secret is in the sole with Docs, they're very good if you've got to walk around all day.
The size conversion never was an issue for me - I wear an 11 US, so I picked up a 10 UK. I love the Aztec Crazyhorse color on these boots - can wear them with just about anything. Also, the breaking-in process is almost a non-issue, they feel as if I've had them for a few years.

These are not Docs by any stretch of the imagination. These deserve a zero star rating. I've been wearing Docs since the '80s, and even after they succumbed to corporate greed and moved to Asia the quality was sub-par but decent with no drastic changes. The soles on these "new and improved" Doc wannabees are a hard plastic/polyurethane of sorts. No bounce at all. One of the things I've loved about Docs over the years is they fit my Hobbit feet...wide and comfortable. These new ones are narrow in both height and width; however, the toe area is taller. These are very reminiscent of exaggerated clown shoes. When placed next to my 10 year old pair, they are much taller at the toe tip. Obviously, the new designers have never ridden a motorcycle. Tall toe tips make it hard (if not impossible) to shift. This means wear. If I want the steel toe work boot look, I'll buy steel toe work boots. These are going back ASAP! Sadly, Dr. Martens will receive my money no more. After 30 years of buying and wearing the perfect boot, it seems the profit machine has victimized another great company.
