4.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Doc quality, but beware the zipper!
Through mechanic shop to print shop conditions, these boots haven't failed me. No joke, they've replaced nearly every other non-dressy shoe I own. I'd recommend these to nearly anyone, but the zippers on these are plastic. I don't get it, but they made indestructible boots with plastic zippers. So beware that you'll probably have to replace the zippers somewhere along...

2.0 out of 5 stars Comfy, terrible zippers.
I have these, and I love them dearly. Very comfortable once they're broken in (don't plan to wear them all day for the first couple of weeks!). I bought them as motorcycle boots, and they were perfect for that purpose.

HOWEVER, the zipper on one broke after only about 4 months of wear. Apparently Doc Martens doesn't have a lifetime warranty like they used...

So beware that you'll probably have to replace the zippers somewhere along the line, but that's the only flaw I've found after a year and a half of daily aggressive wear. Also take note that sizes run a little large (my women's 9 fits almost like a 9.5).

5.0 out of 5 stars always a great choice., June 12, 2009

I've been wearing Doc's since 1994, and they never disappoint me. These are no exception. I got the cherry red because they look just like my old pair of "oxblood" colored ones. I love that they're being made with zippers now for easy on and off. I normally wear a women's 10, and that's what I ordered in these. The fit is perfect, they didn't run too big or too small on me, I've been wearing this size in docs with no issues since 94:) They're very comfy right from the start, but once the leather breaks in I know they'll be even more amazing. My calves are pretty small, but with the lacing you can make these boots much looser to fit larger calves. I lace them all the way tight and they're perfectly snug. I am definitely going to buy some other colors.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dr. Marten's Unisex Original 20 Eye Boot W A ZIPPER!, January 28, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I cannot understand why they call this a womans bot since is is almost identical to the Dr. Marten's Unisex Original 20 Eye Boot, but with a side zipper. So what if they are in women's sizes. Just go up 2 sizes for guys and dont be afraid of someone laughs at you (They will never know unless you tell them). I wear these EVERY DAY, and get nothing but compliments form them. Word of advice: When you first get them, use warmed liquified mink oil inside on the dry leather and wear them every day. In 1 month they will feel like part of your leg. Great boot, very very rugged. I am going to get a pair of the red ones to go with my black jeans.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good boots with some size quibbles, October 21, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I normally wear a US size 8 or 8 1/2, so I ordered these boots in a US 8 since they didn't come in half sizes. They're definitely on the big side; I might have been fine ordering a US 7. My biggest disappointment is the boot opening; the 13.5 inches listed here is probably accurate for a smaller size, but the size 8 has a roughly 15-inch circumference when laced as tightly as possible. Disappointingly big for my tiny 12" calves, but maybe not unexpected since I've never been able to find boots that actually fit my calves. I don't understand why boot listings online never list the calf circumferences for every size!

But enough with the minor complaints. Otherwise, these boots are awesome. The leather is sturdy and smells fantastic. The stitching looks excellent--no stray threads poking out here and there. The zipper seems seems sturdy enough, but I manage to break the zippers on all my boots so we'll see how long it lasts. I'm impressed with how securely the soles seem to be attached. The boots came laced with black laces, but there were bright yellow ones included for those days when I'm feeling flashier.
Right now on their second day of wear, the boots are still pretty stiff, and I imagine I'll get a few blisters breaking them in, but with good care they'll probably soften up a great deal.

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVE these boots!, January 29, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
These boots are amazing. I think they're stylish, comfortable, and worth every penny. They are a bit stiff (the way new leather shoes are). So I also bought the Dr. Marten's Wonder Balsam, rubbed it all over the entire boot, let it sit, applied it one more time, and the leather has softened. I would recommend these to anyone who wants to have a pair of awesome boots that are both comfortable and look GREAT.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, wonderful boots., September 21, 2010
I love knee-high boots, I've been looking for an awesome pair to wear in the winter, since Pennsylvania can get some brutal snowstorms. There have always been a few boots I fall in love with -- Blowfish Humvee last year, and their near-identical twin, the Blowfish Hottem this year, and the varying other knee-high, flat-soled boots that GUESS, Nine West, and the like put out.

And while they're cute fashion boots, once I saw them up close and personal and not just on a website, I realized a few things. The material would never hold up, and neither would the sole. I'd get one, maybe two seasons out of the boots before they fall apart, or just start to look shabby. On top of that, trying them on in a local store, I realized that my calf, while not abnormally huge or muscled, wouldn't fit into that boot. I was disappointed, but I saved some money in the long run. I saw a pair of Nine West combat boots in their Vintage line, and sadly, they didn't have my size and weren't getting more in, but I got inspired.

When I got home, I started researching, and remembered my love for a friend's vintage knee-high Dr. Marten boots that she got on eBay for thirty bucks (I'm still seething with jealousy!). So I started looking for pair, and was almost bowled over by the prices. But almost every review I've read sung the praises of the 1B60, with a few exceptions. Those dissenting reviews were mostly disappointed by the inevitable progress of mass-production; don't we all wish they could still be made solely in the UK? I can pretend, at least.

So, when I finally decided to buy them from Amazon (seeing as it was one of the cheaper places to get a brand new pair), I was thrown off by the UK sizing for a minute. I was afraid I wasn't going to get the right size, fit wise, because I had never worn Dr. Martens before. So I ordered a UK7, which is a US9. They got here super fast, and when I saw them, I thought, oh no. Too big. But putting them on, they fit like a glove. Perfectly.

They're going to be a bit difficult to break in; the leather is amazing, but stiff, as to be expected. I've read several places that people use mink oil to protect the leather, and waterproof it, so I'm going to either try that, or the Dr. Marten balsam, but either way, I'm looking forward to wearing them all fall and winter long.

I have had these boots for over a year, and they are still my favorite article of clothing I have yet purchased. I opted for the silver color, and I am glad I did: even as it wears and scuffs, it still looks pretty dang good, and they have been called 'robot boots' by some people--which is high praise in my book. They are extremely comfortable (more so to me than my nicest running shoes) and the leather is very soft, almost buttery to the touch. They have been extremely durable--I can't even calculate the mileage I have inflicted on these shoes, as I walk everywhere and wear them more often than not, but I have not even had to replace the laces yet. Overall, I have no criticisms--they are wearable, durable, and most importantly gorgeous--if I could change anything, it would be that these were made in China rather than the UK, but that is perhaps the most minor of quibbles.

I have these, and I love them dearly. Very comfortable once they're broken in (don't plan to wear them all day for the first couple of weeks!). I bought them as motorcycle boots, and they were perfect for that purpose.

HOWEVER, the zipper on one broke after only about 4 months of wear. Apparently Doc Martens doesn't have a lifetime warranty like they used to, and I'm having trouble finding a local cobbler who will replace the zipper.

So while they were good while they lasted, I bought them based on the "indestructible" Doc Martens reputation, and was disappointed. I've had $30 Wal-Mart boots last longer.

They also fit about a half-size too large, but that's easily fixed by wearing thicker socks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love Them!!!!!, August 17, 2011

This review is from: Dr. Martens Women's 1B60 Boot (Apparel)
Red is my favorite color, so when I saw these I had to have them. I wanted something to wear while riding the ATV and Motorcycles. They came with the choice of yellow/orangish laces or black laces. I put the yellow ones on.

The good, the bad and the not at all ugly:

The Bad: breaking them in is truly a pain, literally. I still have not gotten them broken in entirely. I bought the mink oil (as I had read this helps) and put this on to help loosen them up. It really did not seem to do anything. They are tough leather, and above the ankle still rubs if I wear them for too long. Unfortunately, too long only equates to a couple of hours. I don't have a clue as to how long it will take to get them broken in.

The Good: They are gorgeous and tough. As I stated, I bought these for riding. Since I am not walking around a lot when riding, they worked perfectly for me and were comfortable for my rides. They protected me from hot mufflers perfectly. They got wet and muddy from puddle splashing, and cleaned right up with a dry cloth. The soles are thick, offer great traction, and did not get marred from all the rocks and crap that they met.

The oh NOT so ugly: Everywhere that I have worn these boots I have gotten compliments on them. Quite literally in the middle of the mountain just south of nowhere I had people driving by in their 4x4's stop and compliment my boots. I have not gone anywhere with them where I have not received a compliment.

All in all, I love them! I would not plan on buying them and wearing them dancing the first night you had them (unless you are really into pain). If you have the time and patience to break them in, they are so worth it.
