A cute and comfortable shoe, May 25, 2011
I've purchased Doc sandals and boots before and think these are great. They are a good, sturdy shoe and I have always been pleased with this brand. I usually wear a 9.5 and sometimes a 9, depending on the shoe. I purchased these in a 9 and they fit just fine. Other Docs I've purchased have also been in 9 because I've tried a 10 and it was way too big. I wear them to work, but would wear them for other occasions as well.

I have had these shoes for about a month now. Positively, they seem to be very well made. They have a removable leather insole, which is also nice. You can replace it with a different insole or add a padded insole under the leather one that comes with the shoe (there is enough room for that). They are roomy enough for my wide, flat feet, and my toes have plenty of wiggle room. In fact, I replaced the leather insoles with two pairs of padded insoles to build up the inside because there was a little too much space in there. Finally (but still important!), I think the shoes are very cute.
Now for the bad. These things hurt! I've never owned shoes that hurt like these do. I waited to write a review in case the shoes just needed breaking in, but they still hurt the top of my foot where the vertical strap presses against the bone. I put 1/8" moleskin padding under the straps, and that helps, but it doesn't completely eliminate the pressure. Also, I have the straps buckled fairly loosely. They used to hurt the bones below my big toes (where bunions would be, if I had them :)), but a long breaking in period seemed to take care of that.
Also, I tend to clump around in these shoes, as though I were wearing big work boots or something. I'm not sure if it's because the shoes are heavy or if it's because the soles are not terribly flexible.
Overall, the shoes are cute, well-made, and fit my foot, but they hurt. For the price I paid (on clearance at a store for 50 bucks) and the claims made about the shoes, I expected them to be MUCH more comfortable.
If any of you die-hard Doc Marten fans out there can give me tips for making these shoes "work," please share them!! :)

Doc Martens Mary Jane, January 14, 2012
I had a pair of these shoes, way back in 1997, they were stolen from my baggage, and I had never seen them for sale anywhere.. UNTIL I went on Amazon, and the price was phenomenal.. I couldn't get them direct, so the company I dealt with, sent them ALL AROUND America, until they could be delivered to me. It took ages for me to get them, but I was not disappointed, the company kept me notified of the delivery (about two months), but boy was it worth it, the shoes are BRILLIANT, I wore them continually until our weather heated up, I even went to a moody blues concert wearing them!! I compared the price to one in our local store, who hadn't got them, but could get them to order, their price was three times that of Amazon!!! A truly amazing purchase, thank you
