Product Description

Welcome warmer weather in this pretty as you please charmer. The Ruana features supple leather two-piece styling that lends femininity alongside Bermudas, capris, and your favorite denim looks. An adjustable ankle strap and cushioned insole deliver its signature Dr. Martens fit, while a modish rubber-wrapped wedge heel and stacked platform give figure-flattering lift.

From the Manufacturer

It all began near Munich, Germany in 1945 when Dr. Klaus Maertens injured his foot in a skiing accident in the Bavarian Alps. To make walking easier during the healing process, he designed a shoe with an air-cushioned sole. Using old rubber tires, he constructed soles that had air trapped within closed compartments. He showed his prototype to his engineer/inventor friend, Dr. Herbert Funck, and together they decided to develop and produce the shoes. Not only did the shoe solve the doctor's immediate problem, but it also started to sell well in Germany. By 1959 the two founders decided that they needed a company to produce and distribute the shoes, then called Dr. Maertens, in other parts of the world. At first, many manufacturers rejected the concept of an air cushioned sole as a short-lived gimmick. However, the R. Griggs Group, located in the village of Wollaston in England, decided to go along with the idea by creating the first work boot with the revolutionary sole. On the first of April 1960, the first cherry red eight-eyelet work boot was produced and named 1460 (1/4/60). To sell the brand name better in England, the name was anglicized to Dr. Martens. The range was branded AirWair and the rest is history.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good looking but runs BIG, September 19, 2008
This review is from: Dr. Martens Women's Ruana Wedge (Apparel)
As previous reviewer said, they do run big. Wear a 7.5, ordered a 7 and had to return for a 6. Pros: comfortable, look good on those canckle afflicted, non-slippery rubber soles. Cons: bit heavy, for the high arched- strap is tight, actual color of the red ones darker than pics. Otherwise unique, well crafted, cute with knee socks.

1.0 out of 5 stars Too BIG Grr, September 14, 2008
This brand appears to run really large. I am normally a size 8.5...I purchased a size 8. There was about 1 inch from my heel to the back of the shoe. The shoe is also *very* heavy...you will definitely be working out when you wear them for some time. Foot bed is comfortable but will show foot wear easily.

1.0 out of 5 stars Perfect...if you are genetically compatible with Bigfoot, April 8, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Dr. Martens Women's Ruana Wedge (Apparel)
I heeded the two other reviewers warnings about this shoe running big so I ordered a size smaller than I normally wear and the shoe is still too large! I love all my Doc Martins and have noticed that the shoes tend to run big but this shoe just plain doesn't fit well. They do not come in half sizes so if you wear a half size, as do I, then you will probably run into problems too. My first thought after discovering that the shoes are too large was that I could add a pair of gel insoles, which are too bulky for most of my shoes. But even then the shoes were still too big and then I noticed, as the first reviewer pointed out, that the ankle strap is too short and I do not have high arches or cankles. The leather strap across the front of the shoes is very wide and my foot just slides around inside the shoe forcing me to walk as though I am walking on an icy sidewalk. The last, and very important, thing to note about these shoes is that they are HEAVY which kind of negates the whole comfort thing. Yeah, the shoes are comfortable to stand in but if you need to walk you better build up some endurance before taking these babies out for any long walks in the park or anywhere else. Sad to say, despite the great price, I will be returning these shoes for a refund and really really resenting the money I wasted on shipping. Seems to me, when sizing is off as much as it is with this product, the customer should not get stuck with the cost of shipping! Skewed sizing is as much of a defect as a loose heel and the manufacturer should have to eat the cost of the return shipping. This is what makes buying shoes over the internet such an iffy proposition.
