Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

The veterinary practice of Dr. Deirdre Quinn Nightingale is supported primarily by a diminishing dairy industry. Hoping to change her practice to race horses, Nightingale first must make connections in that world. As a start to achieving this goal, she travels to an equine veterinary convention in Atlantic City to attend a lecture by famous veterinarian Eleazar Wynn, but Wynn is murdered in a shoe store where Nightingale just happens to be shopping with a newfound friend. A series of interconnected murders follow, causing Didi, as Nightingale is known, to fear for her life. This is a light yet entertaining mystery, filled with a cast of quirky characters. Adamson is the author of the best-selling Alice Nestleton, Nightingale, and Lucy Wales mystery series. Laura Hicks's reading is lively and a pleasure to hear. Recommended for all public libraries. From AudioFile

Meet Dr. Nightingale, large animal vet, who becomes embroiled in a series of murders that revolve around horses, racing, and betting. As Nightingale works to untangle the web of intrigue and murder, her past relationship clamors for attention and resolution. Laura Hicks ably portrays each character, making the older men sound gruff, the women loud and sometimes strident. The mystery holds the listener's attention as the doctor and the police try to round up the suspects. M.B.K. © AudioFile 2002, Portland, Maine-- Copyright © AudioFile, Portland, Maine
