Undeniably the best album to listen to while defecating in your sister's hair. With Q-bert on the decks and Automator producing--even Gargamel and Azriel purring and rapping over the beats would've been dope. In fact, I read a recipe and the ingredients for Frosted Flakes over the beats and I couldn't believe how fabulous it sounded.

2.0 out of 5 stars What are you all talking about?
I'll give this 2 stars just for the beats.

As far as being "cutting edge" and "radically new" and whatever other great sounding description these reviewers want to leave, this album is not.

Elementary school kids could make an album more intelligible than this. If you want to listen to this CD, you're DEFINITELY gonna need to be on something. I...

If you like underground hip hop classics, dope album cover art, sick turntablism, and awesome beats, this album is a must have. I still listen to it regularly and I think I've had this album for about 8 years. Keith's lyrics are ingenious but they will not make sense to someone with a limited understanding of polyfunkoptemetricology. I would buy this just for the cover art. And the plastic CD case is sturdy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Material, September 1, 2002

One of the most innovate recordings in hip hop history. Dr. Octagons' outer space funk infused hip hop is something so unique I guarantee you'll never hear anything like it again. The Automater's beats are trippy, funky, dark and surreal. Doc Oc's (Kool Keith) lyrics are abstract, funky, and spontaneous. Standout tracks include Technical Difficulties, Blue Flowers(original and remix), Dr. Octagon and No Awareness. The whole disc is tight and flows effortlessly throughout. Word to the wise, approach this disc with an open mind, definately one of my top 10 hip hop cds ever, maybe even top 5.

5.0 out of 5 stars Only the science inclined shall appreciate this Master-piece, September 5, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Dr Octagon (Audio CD)
The whole album starts like a science fiction episode of Svengoolie. This doctor obviously knows his medicine. He and co-surgeon, Sir Menilik aka Scaramanga aka Dr. Gerbik, rip things lovely. Dr. Octagon is defintely a (DJ Automator)masterpiece.

5.0 out of 5 stars this album remains one of the most innovative hip hop works., December 3, 1998

I remember when Kool Keith was the "the big shot on the East Coast". About a year and a half ago I was totally through with hip hop because the innovation that I witnessed as a young female ceased to exsist with these new bootie artists. But now thanks to this multi-personality having maniac,I realize that there truly is a light at the end of every dark tunnel. With the likes of ARTISTS such as J-5, Aceyalone, Company Flow, Medusa and others equally dedicated,my faith in hip hop is slowly but surely being restored. Dr. Octogon's lyrics keep me analyzing and the beats and crazy scratching make me long for those good old L.A. UNDERGROUND clubs. "this is the part when you get in the circle, move yo body, move yo body!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Funky Fresh and Freaked Out: The Insane Word of Dr. Octagon, July 31, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Dr Octagon (Audio CD)
Groovalicious and gynacological, Dr. Octagon is hip-hop's messiah for the third millenium, with his witty poop raps and an amazing free-style that gives him the freedom to rap about Chewbacca uncircumcised. The most groundbreaking debut ever for a man with multiple personalities, Dr. Octagon artfully illustrates his anti-ghetto raps on the masterful canvas provided by scratch wizard DJ Q-Bert and producer the Automator. A cross between Eazy-E and Fozzy the Bear, Dr. Octagon is one you do not want to miss END

5.0 out of 5 stars The most inventive Hip-hop of the nineties, July 27, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Dr Octagon (Audio CD)
Dr. Octagon is the most amazing person to take on hip-hop since NWA broke gangsta rap. Not only is this sound totally new but it's totally out there. Most rap today is very serious and it's hard to find wacky rap albulms like you can wacky rock albulms. Dr. Octagon is very random and will make you laugh out loud! If you like funk, rap or even just crazy music, you need this! Dr. Octagon will keep you dancing until the year 3000! END

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the all-time classics, July 25, 2004
This review is from: Dr Octagon (Audio CD)
One of raps all time classics. nothing tops this. keith is so innovative and his lyrics are more creative than 99% of all rappers. this Mandingo reviewer f*%kwit obviously aint a rap fan, becasue if they were they would know what they were talking about. i bet they would call 50 cent ja rule eminem jay z d12 "RAP". dont listen to this f*6kstick because he has no idea what he talking about. this is one of the alltime best rap albums ever. if u dont have it and call yourself a rap fan then your opinion is garbage, fah real.

Dance beats are not the standout part of this album but the beats used here collaberated with incredibly well constructed scratching (non better than the laughing on no awareness)simple but very spacey synth sounds and very bizzare lyrical content make this the most trippy Hip Hop album of all time. If anyone can name a more out there compilation than this please let me know cause I havnt heard it. Lost in Space and Dr.Dooom are very close but no where near as clever. And although the most wacked out song that Kool Keith has ever been apart of is not on this album (mommy-cenobites) it contains such tripped out greats as Earth People, Blue Flowers and Halfsharkalligator which were immediate catch songs for me. The only track should not be on this album is Im destructive, aggressive guitar destroys this track and spoils the album from being 100%. You cant get a more horny track than Girl let me touch you. The bass vibrates the back seat of the lexus and the melody is perfect for when you and your love doll are necking it in spiritual mode. Unfortunetly this is the only track on the album you can [neck] to (...).

4.0 out of 5 stars Takes hip-hop to a whole 'nother level, December 13, 1999
This review is from: Dr Octagon (Audio CD)
Dr. Octagon has a style all his own, pushing the limits of the rhythm while still always maintaining a tight flow. With all the lackluster MC's out there, rapping over mediocre beats & samples, this album gives hope for the future of hip-hop. Everything, from the heavy and innovative beats from the Automator, to the phat scratches that you'd expect from Q Bert, is so on point it's scary. The only complaint I have it Octagon's insistence on putting a lame and repetitive hook into every song; if he just stuck on flowing instead of trying to make the songs commercial, the album would be perfect. Other than that, this album is the new benchmark in pushing the limits of hip-hop, and has yet to be surpassed since its release.
