UPDATE: In the very few days since I posted the review below, the publisher has responded (in a comment to this review) that they fixed the problems with this book. I haven't verified this myself, but I assume that they've done what they said. So please consider my negative comments below retracted, and kudos to the publisher for such a rapid response.
(OLD REVIEW FOLLOWS) While this series of books is not exactly high-quality literature, you should stay away from the Kindle version of this book. There are numerous typos including OCR mistake (e.g., Til for I'll), sentences that simply stop in the middle, and whole paragraphs that seem to be missing based on the flow of the text (or rather, lack thereof). I've had Kindle books with minor typos in them before, but this falls way below the level of acceptability---don't buy it. I'm also going to stop buying any more books in the series, because I don't trust the publisher based on the low quality of this book. (I did email amazon to complain about this issue, and suggested they remove the e-book and ask the publisher to fix it.)

Love the Destroyer series. Read many of them back in the 80's. All lots of fun, and this is no different.HOWEVER... the Kindle eBook version is riddled with bad scanning errors. Entire lines and paragraphs missing. Weird word switches. Just bad, sloppy stuff. And it looks from the previous reviews like the publisher knew about this, said they'd fix it... and didn't. Because I bought it just this week (February 13, 2012) and it's still very, very messy. PLEASE FIX THIS. Thanks. - A

VERY POOR SCAN JOB - KEEP THAT IN MIND!,

For Kindle version - the publisher may have said they fixed the problems, but they HAVE NOT been fixed. I like the Destroyer series and am glad they are on the Kindle. So far, out of the first five books in the series this is far and away the worst for the poor OCR scan job done. Like the earlier reviewer says, there are atrocious errors like Till instead of I'll, missing sentences, missing lines and quite possibly missing paragraphs. And they are charging $2.99 for this book, but only 99 cents for some of the others. If it wasn't for the terrible OCR scan job I'd give this at least a four star rating. Of all the Kindle books I have read in the past couple of years this is absolutely the worst one for quality of the scan. I purchased the book on October 25, 2011, well after the publisher told the first reviewer it had been fixed. Someone might have fixed it, but the fixed version is apparently still not on Amazon. |
