5.0 out of 5 stars happy hubby
My husband bought a new truck a couple of years ago and he could never find a comfortable seating position, especially for a long drive. I bought him the Dr. Scholl's massager this Christmas to use as a seat cushion in the truck since it was one of the best priced cushions with an adapter plug "thingy". He absolutely loves it! 3.0 out of 5 stars Back is OK, legs are NOT
This is a vibrating massage. The heat is not very hot....and when you turn the heat on, it lowers the vibrating. It does not reach the neck area, but does a pretty good job on the middle and lower back. The leg massage is VERY uncomfortable. If you have fibromyalgia it will hurt to sit on this! My problems are in the neck area. There's not a product designed made to properly reach my troubles; many are not even designed to work in a car, where the choice of seating is far more limited. I especially have trouble with the general design of "headrests", which for me are not in the least bit restful but rather force my head forward, and my neck into a destructive and painful position, due to my unyielding (to say the least) cervical fusion.

I bought this planning specifically to retrofit it to my individual needs. I practically ran to my car with the massager and instructions in hand, and there raised it up higher in the seat to be able to reach my neck, forfeiting the "thigh massage" feature. (I haven't had any major surgery on my thighs; they'll be alright.) Then inserted a firm pillow in between the otherwise concave neck area of the headrest, and the massager, and strapped it all down; got it running and made fine tune adjustments until it was reaching me well. Once in a while I have to pull it up in the seat but not very often (these results probably vary based on the way you get into your car). This setup is really helping to relieve some of the stiffness that develops in my neck during a stressful day at work (which is really every day), and if it gets really bad on some days, I go out at lunchtime instead of my usual staying in, get some or other errand done, and come back de-stiffened and de-stressed from the drive.

If the straps gave out, or the motor died, after some or another amount of time, I would not be the least bit angered. I'm thankful for the bit of relief, the accessible and timely relief, that it gives me, and if I had to replace it once in a while .. if I had to replace it 3 times a year, that would still only be a hundred dollars a year for an incredible amount of comfort -- for someone who really needs it. When my neck gets stiff, and I literally crumble in pain, my posture suffers and the problems get worse. So.. it does save me a little.

Lifesaver.

The product performs well for the price. Its also very quiet, which I appreciate. The heated area is only 6"x5"; since I was more interested in that aspect than in the massage features, it was a bit disappointing. For those who are looking for a variety of massage features at a very low price, this cushion is perfect.

I bought this as I was recovering from a bout of sciadica. It does the job if you have low level pain and stiffness in your lower back. Also if you sit for extended periods. I use it in my car during commuting time. It just keeps things loose by warming and gently massaging. Its no miracle cure but is a nice tool toward recovery. It also feels good after a workout.

We use this cushion as a car seat heater in the winter. The three heat settings work great. You might not want to drive with the massager on though (it's a little distracting).

5.0 out of 5 stars Great product!, December 10, 2009

I bought this as an early Hannukah present for my boyfriend who always stated that he wished he could have a massage chair in his car. I knew they made them, but not this cheap! When he received this gift he was so excited to put it in his car and drive to work. He told me the heat setting barely decreases the vibration (Which I was surprised at because of all of the reviews) and he uses it everywhere he goes. He did tell me that after a while he does have to turn it off and give it a rest because the vibration can get a bit annoying, but it doesn't take him too long to turn it back on again!
He's coming to visit me in college today and he told me that for the 3 1/2 hour drive he'll be using the chair pretty much nonstop. I'm very happy at his response and I even went ahead and got my father one. I highly suggest this to anybody who just wants to relax while taking a drive.

For $18 shipped you can't go wrong. This fits on any chair and works great, the heat gets hot fast but does lower vibration.

I had a homedic full length heating/massage pad and the motors wore out after 1 year, so I thought I'd try this one by Dr. Scholl. The heat goes from mild to very warm, but very slowly, and if an elderly person uses it, they have to be sure to be well clothed and use a blanket over it or it can harm the skin. It just gets too hot. Then there's the motors for the massage, placed right under your butt cheeks. It's therefore lumpy and uncomfortable. But it works as stated and the massage reaches the upper back, which was important for me. If I had to do it again, I would buy one after more research and after trying them out in a store first, to match the placement of the motors with my body better.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cushion Massager, April 13, 2010

My wife uses this in the passenger seat on long trips in the car to ease back discomfort.
It works well for what it is designed to do. The only drawback on this and other similar
products is that the massager must be turned off every 15 - 20 minutes to avoid the
motor burning out. This somewhat defeats the purpose on a long ride, but is still satisfactory
overall.
