    1.0 out of 5 stars A GIGANTIC HAIRBALL! February 19, 2004
    Format:DVD
The sun's still not shining and it's too wet to play.
So don't think this movie will help save the day.
What a mess! What a shame that's it's come down to this,
A gigantic hairball! A huge movie miss!
I thought for a moment it was Powers in drag.
Though not in a dress. In a cat suitish bag!
Or maybe a remake of THE WIZARD OF OZ?
The Cowardly Lion in kitty cat paws?
No! No! It's just rubbish, the worst of the sort!
To take a great classic and its story abort.
And replace it with nonsense that just doesn't fly.
If Seuss were still here I am sure he would die.
His story, his concepts all blasted...oh well,
Into small smithereens. It won't work. It won't sell!
I guess that some think that they'll just tag the title
To a movie so bad that it's up in the nightle!
Oh, yes, they made money but in the end, it is true,
They just couldn't fool us, not me and not you!
Just read the book to the kiddies, indeed.
Just watch the cartoons that this movie exceed.
Just forget about this one and hope there won't be
More movies like this that we won't have to see.

    1.0 out of 5 stars I PAID 20 BUCKS FOR A COMMERCIAL March 19, 2004
    By A Customer
    Format:DVD
Visually interesting is pretty much all I can say for this DVD. I use "interesting" because I did find the production design to be creative, although the colors did tend to be a bit overpowering at times (It seemed as though Crayola vomited on my TV screen at points in the movie). Mike Myers was apparently stuck in Dr. Evil mode during his performance, as it felt at times like I was watching the character from "Austin Powers" dressed as a creepy looking cat. I also had a problem with some of the humor (innuendos abound, parents!)...this WAS supposed to be a "FAMILY" movie, Hollywood, and I found it a bit disturbing that one of the special features, the outtakes, actually had "bleeped" profanity, including the "F-Word", which was uttered by Sean Hayes and bleeped out...you still know what was said, and I was very offended that it was even included on this disc for kids to see. The "Things" (Thing 1 & Thing 2) are so creepy looking that I would have been scared if I was a kid! Universal even manages to throw a commercial in your face for the Universal Studios Theme Park halfway thru the movie! Thank goodness the movie was as short as it was...if you leave out the opening & ending credits, it's stretching to say it lasts about an hour and 10 minutes. Any more and I would have needed some headache medicine...the movie is so frantic and hyper, plus the colors and music, it'll drive you over the edge!
Save your $20 and go to the local video game arcade...it's quieter and less flashy than this movie !!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Save your money June 22, 2004
    By A Customer
    Format:DVD
This has got to be the worst "children's" movie ever made. I can't believe that Mike Myers was a part of this piece of garbage. It's painful to watch--ridiculous humor (and not the good kind), totally inappropriate language and inferences for children to hear, it's shot very dark and ugly.
Shrek managed to include adult type humor that was both clever and fun without being inappropriate for children. For example, the cat says "Judas Priest" several times, makes a crack at a garden hoe, saying "You dirty hoe!", etc. Sorry, not for my four year old.. All of the adult humor, and it's horrible even if you watched it without your kids! Luckily I rented this instead of buying. Save your money!

1.0 out of 5 stars Horton hears a who? Horton smells a bomb June 25, 2004
    By Colin
    Format:DVD
Well, if you want to watch the most mind-boggling, embarassing waste of money film from 2003, you've come to the right place. This adaption of the classic children's book is so outrageous in its own stupidity, and so insanely wrong, that all you can do is just laugh at the spectacle of it all.
Mike Myers is an embarassment as he plays The Cat (awful costume, by the way) in a variety of guises - not the least of which is funny. The two kids, cast for their cuteness, don't leave nothing but a sugary aftertaste. And the adult castmembers flit in and out of the story, mainly to be made fun of. Sean Hayes does double duty, as both a fish and the boss of the kids' mom, who likes cleanliness.
The humor is either stunningly silly, even for young kids, or downright shocking in its adultness. In this kid movie, we hear Alec Baldwin muttering to the mother that, "It's hard...it's hard"; the Cat screeching "Son of a bi-!" before being cut off while supposedly on a cooking TV; the car (S.L.O.W.) was originally named something more adult - it stars with s-h and ends, well, take a guess; and the Cat announcing that a slide burns his ... behind??? What this is doing in a kids movie is beyond me.
This movie is an exhausting 82 minutes, filled to the brim with stuff to look at, but none of it leaves much of an aftereffect. When the credits blessedly roll by at the end, be thankful this movie bombed enough that there won't be a sequel.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not funny, just weird. April 25, 2004
    Format:DVD
This film was just strange. The colors were visually disturbing. Mike Meyers had a bizarre accent which was a cross between the Cowardly Lion in The Wizard of Oz and Austin Powers. It grated on my nerves.
Our six year old did not laugh. We had a chuckle or two. But the plot was thin and went off on tangents. Alec Baldwin was wasted in the role of the evil boyfriend.
The Cat's antics were silly and the kids just stared at him woodenly.
Someone obviously paid these "stars" a truckload of money to make this awful and disjointed and disappointing film.
