Every child should own this book. My son was given this when he was 6 months old and we still read it weekly and he is almost 3 1/2. He loves it and thinks it's funnier everytime we read it.

Dr. Seuss's ABC was one of the first Dr. Seuss book that I read to my daughter. I had vague recollections of it from my own childhood, and it was amazing home many of the rhymes or illustrations struck a chord of memory. In particular, I recall the green face and surrounding empty glasses of "Silly Sammy Slick, who drank six sodas and got sick, sick, sick". (Can you tell that this was the "s" page?)

The whole book is like that, memorable verse paired with equally memorable illustrations. The meter of the rhymes is fantastic, and the alliterations that Seuss strings together are better than any other alphabet book I have read.

An example, from memory, as it has been 5 or 6 years since I last read it to our youngest:

"Big B, little b, what begins with B?

Barber, baby, bubbles, and a bumblebee."

Simple, yet genius.

This is a lap book that no parent should be without. Reading it aloud produces an infectious joy in the reader and listener alike. It is a wonderful way to convey that joy of reading to your child.
