Provides photostimulation at a safe frequency of 1 to 7 cycles/second and is optimally relaxing. It has been known since the discovery of electroencephalogram in the 1920's that the brain "follows" the frequency of flashing lights. And deep relaxation occurs at these lower frequency rates. It also allows the individual to choose betweeen pure blue, pure red, or a mixture of blue and red colors for optimizing their personal sense of relaxation. For those who have trouble relaxing, for those who have trouble with the mind wandering, and for those who do not wish to "work" for relaxationm the Shealy RelaxMate II offers the best known technique. Ninety percent of my patients report themselves in a deep state or relaxation within 10 minutes of applying the RelaxMate II. Once they have selected the frequency and the color preference, all they have to do is put on a pair of glasses that look much like sunglasses and close their eyes. We recommend that it be used a minimum of 20 minutes a day up to an hour a day. It can be used at anytime and at bedtime (leave the timer on for 1 hour and fall a sleep in the relaxed state).

I used the Relaxmate I for a number of years, and found it a nice aid to meditation. But this version is worthless. The controls for color adjustment never worked, and the light pulse frequency button didn't do a thing. Soon the light pulsing stopped altogether. After a few months, I'm left with some very expensive eyeshades that shine purply light in my eyes. I feel seriously ripped off.

I'm really happy with this product. I love the adjustments that let me customize each session. I've found myself using slower, dimmer sessions before bed and brighter, faster sessions in the afternoon or morning to augment my meditation practice.

I would highly recommend this product to anyone interested in enhancing there ability to relax and unwind, its great to use with relaxing music. I found this product to be reliable and durable (owned for 9 months) and the battery life is excellent.
