Showcasing once again the superb on screen fighting power of Asian Superstar Jet Li, Hong Kong's box office smash 'Dr Wai' is set in the early Twentieth Century where Wai (Jet Li)embarks on an action packed quest in search of 'The Scriptures With No Words.' Along with his trusty assistant Pao (Takeshi Kaneshiro) they encounter many obstacles on their way, including the lovely-but-deadly Yu Fung (Rosamund Kwan), a top agent for the Japanesem who is attracted to Dr Wai's boyish looks, and the lethal fighting skills of underworld gangster Ngai (Ngai Sing - 'Bodyguard from Beijing'), who falls prey to the scriptures and transform into a powerful monster to confront Jet in the final showdown. Ching Siu Tung, director of such classics as 'A Chinese Ghost Story', 'The Heroic Trio' and its sequel 'The Executioners', weaves his stylist magic set against magnificent backdrops, delivering an epic action adventure in true Hong Kong Style. There's also an excellent supporting role from supervillain Billy Chow ('Fist of Legend') and more. Watch out Indiana Jones, your Chinese cousin is on his way into town! The quality of this video is awful. I could barley hear it and the subtitles go by so fast I had to keep pausing the dvd in order to read them. Also the movie itself did not make any sense. I know that translating from one language to another can be difficult but I find it hard to believe they would say such foolish things. Half the sentences did not make any sense. I know it is one of Jet Li's first movies and as such it stinks! I couldn't even enjoy his skills as a martial arts expert. I looooove Jet Li but I disliked this purchase very much (I will not use the H word on Jet Li) Save your money folks I'll give you mine!!!

i'm sure that many people like this movie.

BUT IF YOU ARE LOOKING AT THE DIRECTORS CUT VERSION AND SAYS JET LI COLLECTION AT THE BOTTOM, THEN THE DVD DOES NOT PLAY. I GOT THIS AT CD TRADEPOST FOR 1.99 AND IT SHOWS WHY IT IS PRICED THAT LOW.

THIS MOVIE COMES IN A COLLECTION THAT I DON'T KNOW THE TITLE OF BUT IT COMES WITH A JACKIE MOVIE, AND SHAOLIN IDIOT. THEY COME IN A NICE LOOKING 5-DISC BOXED SET AND IT LOOKS VERY INTRIGUEING BECAUSE THEY HAVE THEM ALL IN DVD CASES LIKE THIS AND YOU HAVE NEVER SEEN THEM BEFORE.

SHAOLIN IDIOT-LOOK THIS MOVIE UP IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE ME AND YOU THINK THAT I JUST DON'T LIKE THIS AND AM TELLING YOU NOT TO WATCH IT BECAUSE OF THAT. LIKE 5 PEOPLE HAVE WRITTEN A REVIEW SAYING THE DVD DOESN'T WORK, THAT IS CALLED CONFIRMATION. AND ONE OF THE REVIEWERS MADE A COMMENT THAT THIS IS NOT SHAOLIN IDIOT BUT ANOTHER STEPHEN CHOW MOVIE THAT SUCKS AND HE MUST HAVE JUST SEEN THIS, THE ONLY OTHER THING THAT I CAN THINK OF IS THAT HE HAS THE ONE DVD PLAYER THAT THESE DISCS WORK ON. I HAVE 7 DVD PLAYERS AND TRIED THIS DVD ON A TOTAL OF 12 DVD PLAYERS, ALL DIFFERENT AND I GOT A DISC ERROR ON ALL OF THEM. SO OBVIOUSLY THEY JUST DON'T WORK SO JUST DON'T BUY THIS.

THIS MOVIE ACTUALLY WORKS IN THE JET LI COLLECTION FOR 11.99 THAT I REVIEWD ON HERE, AND IT IS THE WORST PICTURE QUALITY I HAVE EVER SEEN FOR A NON OLD SCOOL MOVIE. THE TRANSLATION SERIOUSLY CANNOT BE READ AT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, THE SOUND IS HORRIBLE, AND I COULDN'T EVEN TELL WHAT WAS GOING ON WHEN BILLY CHOW AND JET LI WERE FIGHTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I HAVE PLENTY FO MOVIES THAT COME FROM A HORRIBLE FILM STOCK, BUT THIS COMPETES WITH SOME OF THE ALL-TIME WORST THAT I HAVE EVER SEEN. SO I CAN'T REALLY RECOMMEND THIS EITHER.

THIS HAS GOT TO BE THE ONLY JET LI MOVIE I HAVEN'T SEEN THAT I HAVE TRIED TO FIND. I HAVE HIS FIRST 3 MOVIES, BUT CAN'T FIND JET LI VS. BILLY CHW PART 2. SON OF A MOTHER F#&$^%, piece of */@!.

if your eyes are already shot, then you may be able too watch this, but I challenge you to find a worse copy of any movie than what comes in the jet li collection.

I am not sure about this cut, as i got european version few years ago, but this movie is actually quite nice, despite potentially horrible translations.

Its the story told by the son of Dr.Wai's assistant. And its pretty much following typical Indiana Johnes story - powerful artifact that nasty people want to take to rule earth, brave archeologist and handful of his friends are in the way.. It may lack some brilliance of late movies with Jet, but its still very nice, got some humour scenes in it and , in my opinion , makes decent time spending in front of screen :)
