I purchased this for my husband who is a Dr. Who fan. I noticed that you could purchase these mugs from other sites (such as thinkgeek.com) for half the price, but they were all sold out for Christmas.

The mug wasn't as well received as I had hoped. The designs/material felt cheap. I had to explain the concept to my husband for him to appreciate the mug. When you have HOT water in the mug, the tardis disappaears from the road (on one side) and appears in space (on the other side). When you have WARM water in the mug, some of the tardis on both sides.

IT IS NOT MACHINE WASHABLE. The packaging warns that it is not machine washable. After a round of hot tea, a guest put it in dish washer. One wash it was destroyed.

To put on a shelf it is nice.
To use routinely, I wouldn't recommend unless you will religiously wash by hand.
The change over is also a little less impressive than I thought.
I am sure it warned me against using the dishwasher, I did anyway, and it was ruined;
its just a piece of paper stuck on the outside of the cup that is heat sensitive.

I got the mug for my Brother-in-Law who is a Dr. Who fan like the rest of my family.. Gave it to him for Father's Day and he just loved it!! Works pretty good too and he knows he has to treat it with care and that is Ok because he wants it for a long time he said. He could hardly wait to show it around work.

I bought the disappearing TARDIS mug for my friend who is a huge Dr. Who fan for her Christmas present. She loved it.

As other reviewers have said, it is not machine washable so be careful that guests or roommates don't put it in the dishwasher. I absolutely love it! I'm a bit embarrassed that I still get so excited watching the Tardis disappear from one side of the mug to the other. It's my favorite mug!

The person I bought this for hasn't tried it yet, but I have! It's amazing! The TARDIS fades away incrementally instead of instantly, but it's still awesome! Keep in mind, though, that it's NOT dishwasher-safe. The instructions say to wash it by hand. It's a great gift for any Doctor Who fan--or anyone who loves mugs like this. It's great for hot water, hot tea, hot anything. I definitely recommend this product!
